review

“I need you like I need air to breathe. You are my air, Brynne.”

Each book in the Blackstone Affair progressively gets better and better, and Rare and Precious Things is most definitely my favorite of the series. Here I finally fully connected with the characters, their wonderful story and romance, and just about near everything about this book! There will be spoilers for those of you who haven’t read the previous books–Rare and Precious Things is NOT a standalone. Brynne and Ethan’s whirlwind romance spans across the four books in the Blackstone Affair series, and is well worth the read.

Ethan and Brynne are finally married, and they even have a baby on the way! Brynne doesn’t want to know the sex of the baby until she gives birth, so it was a long, anticipated wait for the big reveal. But during the wait, we get to see Brynne and Ethan as a married couple, and even though the two have a few bumps along the road, they truly are meant to be together.

I love the romance. I seriously loooooove the romance that Raine Miller has created between Ethan and Brynne. It’s beautiful, heartfelt, romantic, epic, and heart-stopping. And the wonderful writing makes the romance even better. I wholeheartedly enjoyed reading Ethan and Brynne’s love story as they continue on as a married couple.

“…but my eyes have only really been opened since we met. You gave me everything. You made me really want to open my eyes to what was around me, for the first time in my adult life. You made me want you. You made me want… a life. You were my greatest gift of all, Ethan James Blackstone.”

Even though Rare and Precious Things is about their married life, it’s also very much about Ethan finally, FINALLY dealing with his demons. I have to be honest, Ethan pushing off from confronting and dealing with what haunts him continuously was the biggest thing I didn’t like about the series. But now, his demons are finally out in the open, and I was so glad, but heartbroken, to see Ethan relive his torturous past and eventually heal.

But every step of the way, Brynne is there with Ethan. These two are really the ultimate couple. I could just feel how intense their love–and lovemaking!–was. They love each other so, so much. They mean the world to each other, and I loved reading from both of their POVs to clearly see how strong their connection is to each other. *Swoony sigh* The two of them were burning up the pages–they’re so fierce and passionate about each other. And did I mention how completely alpha-male and dominant Ethan is? Like holy hell, he seriously amps up the sexiness in this book! But even though Ethan is alpha-male through and through, he never forgets to be sweet to his American girl.

“I love you so much, Brynne, and I can’t make it in this life without you. I’ll never regret our baby, and I’ll never stop loving you, or our children. You’re my life, and you’re stuck with me. And you are the most beautiful woman in the world. In the fucking world! Do you understand me, Brynne?”

I enjoyed reading this final book in the Blackstone Affair series so much. The writing is gorgeous and romance is truly unforgettable. I was so impressed with the direction Raine Miller took with Rare and Precious Things. Married life definitely suits Brynne and Ethan. 4 hearts!

about the author

Raine Miller

Raine Miller has been reading romance novels since she picked up that first Barbara Cartland book at the tender age of thirteen. And it’s a safe bet she’ll never stop, because now she writes them too! Granted Raine’s stories are edgy enough to turn Ms. Cartland in her grave, but to her way of thinking, a hot, sexy hero never goes out of fashion. A part-time teacher and writer of sexy romance stories every other chance she gets pretty much fills her days. She has a handsome prince of a husband, and two brilliant sons to pull her back into the real world if the writing takes her too far away. Her sons know she likes to write stories, but gratefully have never asked to read any, thank God! Raine loves to hear from readers and to chat about the characters in her books.
