excerpt

I raise my head and look into her eyes. Last chance, Ryles. Escape while you can. But she stands her ground, unwavering, accepting of the warning in my eyes and the dominance in my stance.

“Come.” God help me because when all is said and done, I think I’m going to need it to walk away from her. She bites her bottom lip to stop it from quivering. Even she knows I’m inviting her into the lion’s den.

I give her a soft smile, pretending I can’t see the vulnerability in her eyes, ignoring it as I draw her further in … and that makes me even worse of a man than I already thought.

We walk, desire leading us and desperation owning our thoughts. I think I mumble an explanation that I have a room, but I’m not sure because my thoughts are consumed by every single thing about her. Fucking consumed when I’ve never been this way before.

I usher her into the elevator, unlock the penthouse all the while my dick is begging me to push the red button, halt the elevator right here, right now and take her on the floor. Feed the greed and be done with her.

Return to familiar ground and be the asshole I know that I am.

about the author

Kristy BrombergK. Bromberg is that reserved woman sitting in the corner that has you all fooled about the wild child inside of her–the one she lets out every time her fingertips touch the computer keyboard. She’s a wife, mom, child rustler, toy pick-er-upper, chauffer, resident web-slinger, LaLaloopsy watching, American Girl doll dressing multi-tasker of all things domestic and otherwise. She likes her diet cokes with rum, her music loud, and her pantry stocked with a cache of chocolate.

K. lives in Southern California with her husband and three children. When she needs a break from the daily chaos of her life, you can most likely find her on the treadmill or with Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good, saucy book.

On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Her debut novels, Driven, Fueled, and Crashed of The Driven Trilogy were well received and went on to become multi-platform bestsellers as well as landing on the New York Times and USA Today lists. Her other works include a short story, UnRaveled, and a companion piece to The Driven Trilogy titled Raced. She is currently working on two stand alones, Slow Burn and Sweet Ache, as well as an untitled novella to the Driven Series.

Now read on for a guest post from Chelsea Fine about TATTOOS! ❤

Tattoos: The Prettiest Storytellers

by Chelsea Fine

Anyone who reads my books knows that I have a minor obsession with body art. Tattoos—and really any other kind of skin branding, such as scars—are prevalent elements in almost all of my stories. I’ve been fascinated with body art since I was a child and this quote from Right Kind of Wrong pretty much sums up why:

“That’s what tattoos are: storytellers. Not always, but most of the time. Some stories we tell with our tongues, in words and kisses and the food we make for others. Other stories are just for ourselves and are told in tattoos and scars and the shields we erect around our hearts.”

I truly believe tattoos tell stories. Scars also tell stories, but tattoos are stories marked on our skin by choice. For memory’s sake, for pride, for individuality…there are a host of reasons for inking your body. It’s one of the most personal, and permanent, forms of art that exists and human beings have been partaking in the ritual since 6000 B.C.

But if you wished to get a tattoo in 6000 B.C., you really had to want it. Back then, the most common to apply body ink was by using a knife to cut a design into the flesh and then rubbing ash and juice into the raw wound so the stain would be trapped below the surface when it healed. Ouch.

This excruciating process says something about how fierce the desire was to brand one’s skin. People were willing to undergo serious pain to stamp their bodies with an image, which proves just how important individual “storytelling” though body ink was 8,000 years ago. And still remains today.

Sure, it’s not as barbaric or painful as it used to be, but people are just as determined to mark their skin with representative symbols today, if not more so than thousands of years ago. Body art is a big deal and, in my opinion, a beautiful pastime.

You would think, with all my love for tattoos, that I’d have plenty of my own to brag about, but no. I don’t have a single tattoo—not because I don’t want any, but because I want too many. If I started getting tattoos, I doubt I’d be able to stop. I’d ink my body until I had no bare skin left.

What kinds of tattoos would I get? Things that symbolized my sister, my husbands, my children, my mother. Things that reflected my love of writing, art, and music. Things that reminded me of the obstacles I’ve overcome and the challenges I still want to face; the way fear immobilizes me and bravery makes me soar. I have too many stories I want to tell. And since tattoos are storytellers, I don’t think I’d ever run short on ideas.

So I stick to writing my stories down in books. All those pieces of me that I want to tattoo on my skin get translated into characters, plot lines, and themes in my books and I’m perfectly fine with that.

But who knows? Maybe someday I’ll decide to get a tattoo, after all. But until then, I’ll be content telling stories with my books and not with my skin. But I will forever enjoy reading the tattoos of others; the prettiest storytellers of all.

Vaughn Asher. I’ve stalked him relentlessly. I shaped and formed my lust into the perfect dirty hashtag…day after day… weekend after weekend. He was my prince. My fairy tale. My fantasy.

I gave him the best years of my online life and what did he do for me?

Ruined my social media experience one tweet at a time. That’s what.

#Fantastic #BackToNatureFucking
#MissingSomething #You

And now #TheDickWhoIsVaughnAsher thinks he can weasel his way back into this filthy blue bird’s Twitter account? He’s wrong.

His public fantasy is about to collide… ah, fuck it. He’s hot as hell, bitches. I need more than a free sample. This time I want it all. And I’ll do whatever it takes to get it.

excerpt

My tablet dings with an incoming third-party Twitter notification.

@FilthyBlueBird has unfollowed you.

I laugh. “Oh, Grace, Grace, Grace. You think you can slip me that easily?”

Grace @FilthyBlueBird – 1s
OMG, I have a stalker! What do I do, #BlueBirds?

You’d think a woman using Twitter this regularly for a few years would understand how it all works. I can still see her tweets when she unfollows me. I have to stop and laugh a little.

MovieStar @VaughnAsher – 30s
@FilthyBlueBird Who is this stalker? I will set him straight.

And then the usual happens. Within minutes, there are dozens of @replies. Mostly from her girlfriends on the Dirty Heaven list, the #BlueBirds. But some random stalkerish fans of my own are in there too.

@VaughnAsher is @FilthyBlueBird your GF?
@VaughnAsher if you’re the stalker, you can stalk me any time!
@VaughnAsher who is @FilthyBlueBird? Can I be your blue bird?

They get worse from there. Invitations to fuck them. Sit on my face. #SOHF is a code word for that on Twitter. @FilthyBlueBird uses that one a lot. And I’ve got to admit, that’s something I’d like to imagine. More than imagine, actually. I’d like to lick that sweet little pussy until she’s dripping down my chin.

Fuck. I’m horny. I reach for my phone and press Grace’s number in my contacts. She picks up on the first ring.

“What the hell are you doing?” she growls at me.

“You left so suddenly, Grace. I didn’t have a chance to—”

“Get off my Twitter feed, Asher. Now!”

I chuckle. It’s one of those full-of-myself chuckles I do when my power is looming over people. “Now whyever would I do that, Miss Kinsella?”

“Because, Vaughn, I’m just a girl from Denver who has absolutely no interest in signing your contract. It was a fun fling, but it’s over now. So leave me alone and stop stalking me on Twitter! My friends are all going to see—” She’s interrupted by a continuous litany of pinging from my tablet and I admit, at this point in the conversation, I’ve got a hand over my mouth to stop the laughing. She screams on the other end of the line.

I can see why. She just got bombarded with tweets asking about me.

“Oh my God. What do I tell them? What the hell am I going to tell them?” She screams again. “Fuck! Bebe just found out, thanks a lot! I never told her about you, now she’s going to know I was with you on the island.”

“So?”

“So? Jesus, have you no sympathy for me at all? She’s my best friend and I lied to her! I fucked a goddamned movie star and I didn’t tell her! How can you—”

“Grace?”

“—be so fucking cold, you jerk!”

“Grace?”

“Oh. My. God. Do you hear that? That’s her now! She’s calling on the other line!”

“Answer it, I’ll wait.”

“Answer it? No! I’m—”

“Grace?”

“What?”

“I’ll tell them all it was a lie if…”

“If what?” she growls at me through the phone.

“If you have phone sex with me, right now.”

about the author

J.A. HussJ. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.

Her story began long before she started working at The Sky Launch…

Screw fairytales. The only reward Gwen Anders got from her rough childhood was a thick skin and hard heart. She’s content with her daily grind managing a top NYC nightclub—Eighty-Eighth Floor. So hers isn’t a happily ever after. She doesn’t believe in those anyway.

Then she meets J.C.

The rich, smooth talking playboy is the sexiest thing that Gwen has ever encountered, but she’s not interested in a night-in-shining latex. But when a family tragedy pushes her to the brink, it’s J.C. who’s there to teach her a new method of survival, one based on following primal urges and desires. His no-strings-attached lessons require her to abandon her constant need for control. Her carefully built walls are obliterated.

Gwen discovers there’s a beautiful world outside her prison. Freedom is exhilarating—and terrifying. When she starts to feel something for J.C., she fears for her heart. Especially as she realizes that he has secrets of his own. Secrets that don’t want to set him free.

She’s a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however.
