Haha! Love this.

  2. They are good with their hands, and they appreciate the importance of their tongues.
  3. They know how to take direction, but they are also creative—cooking is an art, after all.

Twenty-eight year old Coco Thomas knows the recipe for disaster:

1) Agree to plan last-minute engagement blowout for spoiled Mafia princess before you realize her choice of caterer is Nick Lupo, a despicably gorgeous young chef with a hot new restaurant in town, a reality TV show victory, and a romantic past with you—one that did not end well.

2) Strike a deal with Nick in which you agree to spend a weekend with him in exchange for his services, under the strict conditions there will be no talking about the past, no second chances, and definitely no sex.

3) Violate all three conditions within 24 hours and spend two glorious days remembering what made you fall for the sexy, egotistical bastard in the first place, and why it hurt so much when he broke your heart.

Add one road trip, plenty of good scotch, and endless spoonfuls of chocolate cake batter drizzled over your body and licked off inch by oh-my-God-yes-right-there inch, then just admit it.

You’re totally FORKED.

excerpt

“Spend the weekend with me.”

I shrank back. “Spend the weekend with you! Are you crazy? No!”

“Why not?” he asked, like it would be perfectly normal to spend a weekend with someone you hadn’t seen since he ditched you in the Bellagio bridal suite seven years ago.

“Because it’s ridiculous! I can’t even believe you’re asking me to…do that.” I gestured wildly between us, totally hot and bothered.

“Do what?”

That.”

“I just want to spend time with you,” he said, his face the picture of innocence. “You’re the one who’s reading into it.”

I dropped my hands in my lap and cocked my head. “Really. You ask me to spend the weekend with you and you’re telling me you’re not thinking about sex?”

“Well, now that you mention it—”

“I’m not mentioning it. I’m vetoing it. Unequivocally.” I looked at the glasses on our wooden tray, desperate to find some drop of alcohol we’d overlooked. The absinthe was the only thing left, and even though it wasn’t my favorite, I took a less-than-advisable sized swallow. And then another, grimacing as the alcohol burned its way down my esophagus.

“What’s the problem?” he asked.

“You. Trying to get me in bed after all these years.”

“I’m not trying to get you in bed, Coco. I mean, I wouldn’t kick you out of it, but I was serious about wanting to spend time with you. Look.” He put his hands on the tops of my legs and leaned into me, the bastard. “I know you don’t really forgive me for leaving you in Vegas. And maybe you’re right—maybe getting married so young was a dumb idea, maybe it would have failed anyway, but leaving the way I did was wrong, and I’ve spent the last seven years feeling horrible about it. We spent all that time together, and I don’t even know you anymore. I’d like to know you again. As a human being. As a friend. That’s all.”

It was exactly what I’d been thinking earlier, but somehow it didn’t sound plausible coming from him. “This would be a little more convincing if your hands weren’t on my thighs.”

“But I like your thighs.”

My brain struggled to move beyond the feeling of his palms through the fabric of my dress. I had the crazy feeling that if I lifted my skirt I’d see his handprints burned into my skin. “Is this how you get to know all your female friends? Invite them to move in for a weekend?”

“Not all of them. Just the hot ones.”

“Funny.” He still thinks I’m hot. Warmth flooded my veins. I was starting to get that dangerous feeling, the one I get when I really, really want something, and no matter how impractical the shoe or fattening the cheesecake or expensive the scotch, I just can’t bring myself to walk away. How easy, how delightful it would be to jump back into his bed. But then what? Could I trust myself not to fall for him again?

A Bet…

Yes, I made a bet with my best friend—my now ex-best friend. It had been a stupid, heat of the moment kind of thing. I’d just wanted to get her out of my system and move one. Instead I’ve lived to regret it ever since. I lost the girl I loved, a girl that possessed my very soul. Now I can’t even get close to Natalie. She thinks all she ever meant to me was just the means to the end of a stupid, stupid game.

…For a Bet!

In the span of one night I’d gone from thinking I had a future with the man I loved to SHATTERED at his feet. I can’t get over it. The pain is too strong, too destructive as it festers more and more inside of me. And then my friend came up with the perfect revenge for both our broken hearts.

“I bet you…”

Those three little words gave me a reason to ball my pain up and throw it back in Devlin Cutter’s face. I would let him back in, let him think he had a chance with me once again. And then I would walk away, leaving him broken and bleeding at my feet as he once had left me.

This time he would be the one SHATTERED.

review

It was all a lie. My relationship with Devlin Cutter was nothing more than the product of Devlin wanting to win some bet against his friend. All our nights spent in each other’s arms, all his whispered words of how much he cared about me, worshipped me… They were all lies. I was nothing more than a bet. Nothing. I was nothing to him.

Oh goooosh!!! This. book. Ever since I got addicted to The Rocker series, Devlin and Natalie’s book was THE book I was waiting for. I mean, look at that blurb! I’m such a sucker for these types of books where the hero has to win back the heroine’s love. These books just make my heart ache, and The Rocker Who Shatters Me did it perfectly.

The Rocker Who Shatters Me is another addicting book from Terri Anne Browning. It’s my second favorite of the series so far, right below Drake’s book. I totally adore the characters in The Rocker world, and I loved seeing more of the members of OtherWorld.

When Natalie found out about the bet between Devlin and Zander, her heart was shattered, rightly so. She loved Devlin, and she was devastated to find out that their relationship started on a lie. She wants nothing to do with him now, but as Emmie’s assistant, Natalie unfortunately has to interact with the OtherWorld band members, which includes Devlin.

I liked Natalie, but it was Devlin who made the book for me. It’s so obvious that Devlin wholeheartedly loves Natalie, bet or no bet. It was a mistake to make the bet in the first place, but losing Natalie just makes Devlin all the more determined to win her back and have her in his life for good.

This was my girl. My woman. I wanted, needed–loved her more than anything on the planet. Without her I had nothing, was nothing.

Devlin and Natalie have a great chemistry together, and Devlin uses that to try to get Natalie back. Natalie resists, but it’s hard to keep resisting when Devlin says things like this…:

“You have got to be blind if you don’t see how much I care about you. Every day I wake up without you in my arms is another day I suffer the fires of hell. All I want is you beside me, baby.”

Natalie has a hard time believing Devlin, but Devlin won’t stop until he wins back her love, heart, and trust.

It’s so easy to fall in love with Terri Anne Browning’s characters. You become so invested in all of them, and Devlin and Natalie are no different. I adored their story, though it was a little repetitive in the beginning. My heart was aching from how much Devlin needed Natalie back. Seeing him winning back her love is just the best thing ever! I’m so happy with their story, and now I’m CRAZY excited for the next book!

about the author

Having had a passion for reading from the time my aunt first handed me my first romance, I slowly grew bored with just reading. I wanted to control the characters, make them into who I wanted them to be and that way I was never disappointed with the endings. I soon learned that it isn’t always that easy. The characters control the author. But that is all part of the fun when creating a new story. Seeing where these people take you on their journey to find their soul-mate has become my new passion and getting to incorporate my love of music–Rock music in particular–has been a dream come true. Thanks for taking this crazy ride with me, and I can’t wait to see where we go next!

excerpt

That kid that could be mine.

I get up and let the empty bottle drop to the floor. The woods are eerily quiet, as if it can sense my anger. As if it knows the bitterness that lingers in my veins, as if it knows the burn of not knowing anything.

Like the woods, I’m left in the dark. Completely.

Branches and twigs crunch under my feet as I increase my pace to a gentle jog. And again, to a slow run. Then to a sprint.

The need to know increases with every footstep, as evenly paced as the ticking of the clock. It doesn’t matter that I’ve probably drunk too much beer to be here or that we’ve only been back for a matter of days.

I can’t be in this shithole full of memories without knowing. I can’t move on until I know. I can’t forgive her for a single fucking thing until I know—and even then, maybe I won’t be able to.

Maybe she’s unforgivable.

Instead of knocking on the back door like I did yesterday, I round the side of the house to the front door. The front room light glows softly through the curtains, but the rest of the house is dark.

My chest heaves with the exertion of my run here and I grab the doorframe to balance myself. I’m definitely too fucking drunk for this conversation, but what the hell.

I bang on the door, once, twice, again and again and again. “Sofie! Open the fuckin’ door!”

“Shut up!” she hisses, yanking it open. “The hell’re you doing here?”

I smirk, leaning against the wall. “Shouldn’t I be askin’ you that, princess?”

“Are you drunk?” Her voice rises a little at the end, and her eyes widen.

Those eyes. Fuck, those baby blues that have always undone me.

“Drunk? No. If I was drunk I’d be sitting at home like a miserable bastard and not here facing the cause of my misery.”

“You’re being an asshole. I don’t have to listen to this.”

She pushes on the door, but I wedge my foot in front of it. I let go of the wall and grab the edge of the door.

“Actually, you do.”

She can’t overpower me, and she knows it, because she lets up and the door swings open. “Why are you here, Conner?”

“You have a kid.”

She smacks her lips together. “Yep.”

“When? When did you have her?”

Sofie takes a deep breath in and presses her hands to her stomach. They’re shaking, even as she links her fingers to hide it. I can see that fucking tremble.

She whispers something but I’m too pre-occupied by her hands to hear it.

“What?”

“August last year,” she repeats, still a whisper.

August. Last year. My stomach clenches as I meet her eyes. “When? When in fuckin’ August, Sofie?”

“August fifteenth.” Her voice hitches halfway through the ‘fifteenth.’

Almost seven months to the day she walked out on me and the rest of Shelton Bay.

Adrenaline hums through my body, and I stare at her. At the tears building in her eyes, the quiver of her lips, the bob of her throat as she swallows harshly.

It’s no different from the burn in my chest, the twisting of my stomach.

“Is she mine?”

She shudders and a tear drips from her eye.

“Sofie. Is. She. Mine?!”

Graham Malone is my roommate, my personal eye candy, the reason I get up in the morning smiling (that could be from the illicit dreams I have about him too, I suppose. Let’s move on.). He’s also beautiful to look at, but his heart is where his true beauty lies. Take away the exterior and the interior still shines.

I love him. I mean, I’m pretty sure I do, having never been in love before. Anyway, it seems legit.

And now his brother Blake is here, and, well, he’s the complete opposite of Graham. Sarcastic, brooding, and totally available. But he’s leaving soon, and Graham’s the one I want. I shouldn’t have to remind myself of this, right? I wouldn’t have to if Blake would quit looking at me like I’m something yummy and he’s starving.

Here’s a toast to roomies; the ones you should never fall in love with. Or something.

review

ADORABLE.

Roomies is A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E.

I loved Lindy Zart’s Unlit Star (my review), but that book was utterly gut-wrenching, so I was a bit scared to read another book of hers that would end up making my heart bleed. But Roomies is pure romantic comedy – it had me laughing and giggling like a fool so much. I adored this book – which goes to show what an excellent writer Lindy Zart is. She’ll have you wanting to cry in one book, and then laughing out loud in the next.

Roomies is light-hearted, adorable, and just plain ole fun! I wasn’t exactly sure what I’d be getting into when I read the blurb, but I trusted the author. We have our heroine, Kennedy, who is the heart of this book. She’s truly what made Roomies as adorable as it is. She’s hilarious, awkward, inappropriate, sarcastic, and did I mention hilarious? At first, I was a bit taken aback by how outspoken she was, but she quickly grew on me. I loved her!

Kennedy is roomies with Graham… and she’s pretty much in love with him. They’ve been roommates for about a year, and they’ve become best friends. Graham is the only one who gets her – he gets her quirks, her pervyness, her frankness, her everything. Graham knows all there is to know about Kennedy, excerpt for the fact that she’s in love with him.

Now, Graham… Graham is like the golden boy. He’s nearly perfect. In Kennedy’s own words:

When God put Graham Malone together, He had beauty in mind, I’m sure, but that isn’t even the appeal, not really. The appeal is him–the way he laughs, the sound of his voice, and his sweet, sweet nature. Yes, he is beautiful, but what makes him even more beautiful is that he has no idea.
… He’s just… he makes your heart fill with something like joy and all of you turns warm when you’re near him. You respond to him with not just your mind and your body, but all of you. At least, that’s how it is for me.

Graham is just a GOOD guy, and I loved that about him. I more often than not read about bad boys, but whenever I come across a male character who is good, I appreciate them all the more. Graham is kind, loyal, honest, and so sweet. God, I fell in love with his character so hard. And the things he says to Kennedy! *SWOON*

“You know what I thought the first time I saw you?”
“That you couldn’t believe someone as gorgeous as me existed?”
His grip tightens. “That I couldn’t believe I’d gone so long without knowing you.”

Graham and Kennedy are literally perfect for each other, but Kennedy has never received any indication that Graham reciprocates her feelings. It’s not until Graham’s brother Blake moves in with them temporarily that the dynamics start to change between them. Kennedy loves Graham, there’s no doubt about that, but she finds herself attracted to Blake. Now, before you can scream Love Triangle! let me just say that this book doesn’t REALLY have one. Blake is more of a… catalyst than anything. Kennedy IS attracted to Blake (the Malone brothers are seriously hot and swoonworthy), but he’s nothing compared to Graham, because she still wholeheartedly loves Graham.

He knows me like no one else does. And I’m glad of that. I wouldn’t want anyone else to get me the way Graham does. I realize I understand what he said last night about going so long without knowing me. It feels like we have always been, though we have only been in each other’s lives such a short time. But time does not define emotion. And I cannot imagine my life without him, no matter how far into the future I look. I inhale deeply.
That is a terrifying thought.

Thanks to Blake, we get to see Graham get a little jealous and a little possessive over his roomie, which was hot! Graham fights his feelings for Kennedy a bit, but when he finally gives in and starts pursuing her for good, it’s the sweetest and most heart-warming thing ever.

Roomies is a feel-good, light-hearted romance that had my heart bursting with joy. I adored this book and these characters.

Now here’s an excerpt from Roomies! ❤

excerpt

He gives a slight smile. “You don’t know everything about me.”

“I should know that.” Maybe I shouldn’t, but I really feel like I should. Graham’s pretty much the most important thing to me; I should at least know his family history. He knows mine. Well, most of it. Some of it. Enough…

“Now you do. Are we done? I really need to put some clothes on.”

“But…you said he was in school,” I finish lamely, my voice dropping to a whisper.

“He’s in college.”

I scowl at him. “You purposely led me to believe that your brother was some pimply teenager who was going to mooch off you for the remainder of the summer, not…not…” I jab a finger in the direction of the living room.

“Not what?”

“Not some hottie!” I blurt out, and then wish I hadn’t.

Especially when Graham rears back and gets a funny look on his face. “You think my brother’s hot?” His voice is even, but his eyes look weird. Like, angry or something. A thrill goes down my spine at the thought of my comment having that effect on him. Could he be jealous?

“Yes.” I nod firmly.

“Huh.” He looks away.

A dash of regret has the audacity to chase the little thrill away. I wonder if I’ve upset him, but then decide I haven’t. Why would he be upset? Unless he doesn’t know I think he’s hot too. So I figure I should tell him. It would be rude not to.

“You’re also hot.”

He gives me a look; part incredulous, part I don’t know what. “Thanks,” he says faintly.

“Yeah.” I start to feel dumb about pretty much the whole conversation. “Okay. ‘Bye.”

“’Bye.”

I glance back at him. He is staring at me with a frown pulling his mouth down. “You should put some clothes on.”

“Right.”

I enter the living room. Blake is studying a fake plant in the corner of the room, which pretty much confirms that he was listening to our complete word exchange. Wonderful.

All of London knows the Duke of Rutherford has position and wealth. They also whisper that he’s dissolute, devilish, and determinedly unwed. So why, everyone is asking, has he hired a governess?

When Miss Lily Russell crosses the threshold of the Duke of Rutherford’s stylish townhouse, she knows she has come face to face with sensual danger. For this is no doting papa. Rather, his behavior is scandalous, and his reputation rightly earned. And his pursuit of her is nearly irresistible—but resist she must for the sake of her pupil.

As for the duke himself, it was bad enough when his unknown child landed on his doorstep. Now Lily, with her unassuming beauty, has aroused his most wicked fantasies—and, shockingly, his desire to change his wanton ways. He’s determined to become worthy of her, and so he asks for her help in correcting his behavior.

excerpt

“Get up,” he said sharply, walking over to poke Collins in the chest. The man frowned, brushed Marcus’s finger away, and emitted a loud snore. Marcus poked him again, this time in his soft belly, and he bolted upright, slamming his feet onto the floor, which echoed in the cavernous space of the ballroom.

“I’m up!” he said, brushing his fingers through his hair. “What’s happening? Did Smithfield die?”

“No, not that I’m aware of.” Marcus spared a glance toward Smithfield. Still breathing. He returned his gaze to Collins. “But you both need to leave.”

The good part about being a duke, he’d discovered, was that he didn’t need to explain why anything had to happen. He could just say it. “You need to leave.” “I want strawberries in the middle of winter.” “Swap out all the furniture from one side of the house to the other.” He hadn’t spoken the latter words, not yet at least, but it was a possibility if it seemed that that might, at last, bring him happiness.

He was reserving that last order for when he was well and truly desperate.

“D’ya have someone visiting?” Collins asked, apparently not understanding that being a duke means never having to explain himself.

Marcus didn’t bother to answer, he just went to Smithfield’s sofa and poked him. Unlike Collins, Smithfield’s belly was flat and hard, but it had the same effect; he sat up and blinked, his disheveled hair sticking up in a few gravity-defying directions.

“Out.”

Smithfield nodded and swung his long legs over the sofa to the floor. He stared at the floor for a few seconds, then stood up, wobbling but at least not falling over.

He strode to Collins’s sofa and held his arm out. Collins took it and stood also, both men now, at least, upright.

Smithfield regarded Marcus with a cool, steady gaze. “I hope you find what you’re looking for, Your Grace.” He didn’t wait for any kind of response–good thing, because Marcus didn’t have one because if he did, he’d damned well be off doing that–just took Collins’s arm and led him towards the door.

They halted, however, at the sound of a firm knock.

Now what?

“Enter,” Marcus said, turning his back to the door as he spoke. Cats couldn’t knock, and that was about the only creature he would tolerate seeing.

And when did he become such a grouchy creature himself? If forced to, he could probably pinpoint the exact moment–he’d been about eight years old, and he’d overheard his father talking about him, saying he wished Marcus was more like his brother Joseph. Less like himself.

One would think that wouldn’t sting as much twenty years later, with everyone but him gone from this world. One would be wrong.

He heard the door open, and his butler clear his throat. That was something, at least; Thompson did not clear his throat for any but the most interesting of reasons. He turned his head and felt his mouth drop open.

This was definitely an interesting reason.
