At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance—and the enchanting music that inspires one young woman to put her life back together.

Alrighty, well the first thing I should say is that I finally have time to post more reviews, and what better way to start than with MAYBE freaking SOMEDAY? *fangirling commences*

So. Colleen Hoover. Is it ever possible for you to write a book that I won’t fall in love with? That my entire heart and soul won’t be invested in? That won’t take me, like, 3-4 days to recover from? No? Okay. Well, that’s fine. I’m totally okay with that. You know why? BECAUSE I FREAKING LOVE YOU, COLLEEN.

In case you couldn’t tell, I loooooooved Maybe Someday. It was probably the worst book Colleen Hoover has written so far, in terms of the amount of heartbreak and anguish. This book nearly killed me. And I loved every second of it. I honestly had no idea how much pain and heartbreak Maybe Someday would put me through. I mean, my first impression of this book was that it was freaking hilarious. Laugh-out-loud funny, and in my opinion, Colleen’s funniest book yet. But… as we get more into the story, more involved in the lives of Sydney, Ridge, Warren, and everyone else, all these layers come peeling away. We get such an in-depth look at all the characters that it felt like I knew them, like I connected with their souls. It was perfect.

As the book progressed, I loved that we slowly got know the very hearts of the characters. Sydney isn’t just a girl whose boyfriend has been hooking up with someone else–she’s a kickass girl who writes awesome lyrics to songs. She incredibly relatable–she’s funny, compassionate, and all around a good person. And Ridge is so much more than Sydney’s neighbor who’s talented at playing the guitar. He’s got to be one of the sweetest characters I’ve ever read. Ridge truly has a heart of gold and I fell in love with him over and over in Maybe Someday.

One thing I should highlight is that you absolutely MUST listen to the Maybe Someday soundtrack while reading this book! It makes an already fantastic experience so much better when you actually listen to the songs as they appear in the book. And can I just say–Griffin Peterson is incredible! I am so, so impressed with the songs he and Colleen created.

Maybe Someday is like nothing I’ve ever read. I don’t want to spoil anything about the book, because it’s just so much better to get the full experience without knowing anything, but the direction Colleen Hoover took the story is so unexpected, but so real, raw, honest, and pretty much… perfect. I couldn’t imagine a better story for Sydney and Ridge.

And don’t even get me started on what Maybe Someday did to my emotions. Jesus H. Christ, it was like a freaking roller coaster. But you know what? I love roller coasters. My heart was going crazy for Sydney and Ridge and everyone, because one second it would be full to bursting from love for everything about this book, but then my emotions would shoot straight down to where tears were in my eyes and my heart was aching so badly. Maybe Someday is far from a simple, easy read. It has so much heart–from the characters to the writing, everything comes off the pages so clearly and with so much emotion.

I’m listening to the songs on the soundtrack right now (Hold On to You is my favorite one, though Maybe Someday is a close second) and I still can’t over the beauty of this book and these characters and these words and these songs and these lyrics. And I probably never will. 5+ hearts!

Hey guys!

I know I haven’t been on this blog for a while now (but look at how successful it’s gotten! so proud of Lacey (‘:  ) but I decided to write a post for this book.

I will always come back for Colleen Hoover.

Ahh yes, once again, Hoover has lived up to our expectations, if not exceeded them, with Maybe Someday. My feelings throughout the book? Heartbreak, awe, loneliness, happiness, and of course, sadness because of the 1/billion chance of meeting a guy like Ridge. I read this entire book in one sitting, and honestly it was probably the best 3 hours of my life.

When Colleen said that this book would be accompanied with a playlist, I was so excited to see how it would turn out! Since the main characters are both musicians and end up writing songs together, it feels so much more realistic when we actually get to hear the music. Griffin Peterson sounds amazing as well! The lyrics and his voice go together so well, and he sings with so much emotion that completely fits the songs. Not going to lie though, when I heard the first song, i was a bit skeptical because…well, Peterson didn’t sound like what I thought Ridge would. I grew used to it though, and I’ve actually had the entire soundtrack on repeat for the last week. Yep.

Ridge and Sydney’s situation was a mess. It made me cringe, smile, cry, laugh, and shake my head “no” repeatedly. ALSO- can I just say that Warren (Ridge’s best friend) was absolutely HILARIOUS? One of my favorite moments was when Sydney found out that Ridge was part of a band that was pretty well-known, and she started fangirling wow i COULD TOTALLY RELATE (that actually gave me hope that one day I will meet my favorite band member and we will begin our wonderful relationship and have a happily ever after). Their relationship was so cute and so funny, and I JUST LOVE IT. There was so much meaning in everything that they did, and every lyric that they wrote. This was a book that went from lust to heartbreak to even more heartbreak to love to heartbreak and then to full-on love.

It’s actually really amazing how Colleen Hoover is one of the very few authors that has never written a book that I was disappointed in.
Translation: Go read her books.

Until next time! (6 hearts because why would Colleen Hoover deserve anything less)

Oh. My. GOD! I honestly didn’t think Lady Thief could meet the high expectations I had after Scarlet, but Lady Thief blew me away! It’s a stunning, incredible sequel to Scarlet. I wholeheartedly loved Lady Thief, with its cast of unforgettable, lovable characters and unique writing. If you loved Scarlet, Lady Thief will not disappoint you! And if you haven’t read Scarlet, you really should–A.C. Gaughen’s Scarlet series is one of my favorite series ever! It’s an action-packed historical fiction, a refreshing fairytale retelling, and a heart-stopping romance all wrapped into one mind-blowing package.

“I love you, Scarlet. Go on, now, before you steal my sanity too,” he said.
“Too?” I questioned.
His grin by the moon were wicked and handsome. “Thief of my heart.”

Lady Thief follows shortly after Scarlet’s ending (and can I just say how THANKFUL I am that A.C. Gaughen wrote a sequel to Scarlet? Because I am so, so happy she did). Scarlet’s true identity as a woman of high class, as Marian of Leaford, is finally out in the open, the love between Scarlet and Rob has blossomed, but things aren’t exactly going well right now. For one thing, Scarlet is married to Lord Gisbourne, who is an evil man. Scarlet had to marry Gisbourne in order to save Rob, who was tortured horribly. Rob is safe now, but he constantly has nightmares in which he harms Scarlet in his sleep. There’s tension brewing between Robin Hood and his Merry Men, but there’s no doubt that all of them, Rob, Scarlet, John, and Much, will stick by each other through thick and thin. I’d missed the four of them, and I loved revisiting the bonds and camaraderie between them again.

Scarlet is once again a total badass in Lady Thief. I adore Scarlet. She’s a fierce, strong, compassionate girl who loves with all her heart, and will protect those she loves with everything she has. In Lady Thief, she always puts those she loves above herself–she’d give her life for them, and she basically does when she agrees to be a proper wife for her husband. Even in the midst of political drama including a cruel, despicable prince, Scarlet never gives up and never goes down without a fight. She fights for the people of her town, and especially for Rob and for their love. I love her for her perseverance, for fighting to have the future she wants with Rob. It’s an incredibly difficult road getting to their happily ever after, but Scarlet doesn’t give up.

And do you know what A.C. Gaughen has done to me? She’s made me fall head over heels in love with Robin Hood. I never gave a crap about the fairy tale Robin Hood before, but then I read about Scarlet’s Rob and it was love at first page. In Lady Thief, he’s a little broken after his torture, and attacking Scarlet in his sleep isn’t helping him get better. Even though the book is in Scarlet’s POV, I could just feel his shame and agony over hurting Scarlet, even unintentionally, because he just loves her so much. He’s such a vivid character, someone I can conjure up in my mind so easily. He’s loyal, compassionate, loving, and he has such a kind heart. He’s a thoroughly good man, and he and Scarlet are absolutely perfect for each other.

“It’s strange,” he said low in my ear. “When night falls my chest is full of fear, but holding you like this, Scar, I can’t help but feel grateful. Joyous. By the light of day, I still cannot fathom that I’m the one you love.”
I turned a little to look at him. “I do love you. I always will.”

Oh my goodness, my heart flutters every single time Rob opens his mouth. He and Scarlet are so much more romantic in Lady Thief, and I was grinning so much! They fight so hard to find a way to annul Scarlet’s marriage to Gisbourne, and they won’t stop until they can finally be together out in the open. They have a captivating, passionate love that made me swoon and sigh. It’s sometimes painful too, because they just have so many obstacles in the way of their happily ever after.

“These schemes may benefit the people, Scarlet, but I fight for you.” His hands squeezed my waist a little bit, and it made my blood run fast. “I will always fight for you.”

The other characters in Lady Thief are just as compelling as Scarlet and Rob. They all have their distinctive personalities, even the evil characters, and they made Lady Thief such a great book to read. There’s never a dull moment, and especially in the second half of the book, I was at the edge of my seat, nearly biting my nails. Things get intense in this book, and I loved every second of it!

Lady Thief is an absolute must read–Scarlet fans, you don’t want to miss this one! This whole series is brilliant–the story is executed perfectly, and the characters are so consuming to read about. I highly, highly recommend the Scarlet series–it’s unputdownable and unforgettable!

review

“You and me, professor.”
“You and me, beauty.”

Oh. My. Goodness. I don’t even know how to describe my love for this series! It’s beautiful, phenomenal–Nina Lane perfectly portrays Liv and Dean’s emotions, the strong, unwavering love they have for one another, as well as the heartbreak that the two of them go through. These two characters… oh my. Dean and Liv sucked me into their story from the very first page of the very first book, and they continue to have me hooked up until the very last page of this last book.

Awaken picks up where Allure left off, and Dean and Liv are separated physically, but never emotionally. The two of them have gone through such heartbreak and tragedy, and I never doubted for a second that they wouldn’t patch up their marriage, their heart-stopping romance. There’s just something so beautiful and special about Dean and Liv’s romance. You can feel the intensity of the love they have for one another, the support that they have for each other. This series is not the usual romance, because the main characters are already married, but that doesn’t make their romance any less beautiful to read. If anything, I’d say that their marriage heightens the love, passion, intensity between them. God, I just really, really love this series.

Liv makes me smile so much. She’s sweet (and so adorable sometimes), and yet she’s strong, stubborn, and fierce in regards to her husband. I loved how she has so much room still to grow, and she does. I felt so proud of her, and Dean too. In Awaken, Liv and Dean learn to stand on their own. They learn to overcome their struggles, never once losing their steadfast love for one another. And oh my god, have I mentioned how much I love Dean? I truly, whole-heartedly love this sexy professor. He makes me swoon so freaking hard.

My husband doesn’t just love me. He knows how to love me. He knows what I need and when I need it, sometimes even better than I do. He knows how to unfold all the tight, rough parts of me and smooth them out with one glide of his hand. He knows how to prove that he — and only he — understands every crevice of my soul. He knows how to remind me that I am forever safe within his heart.

I love love love the romance. The passion, the beauty of it, I can’t even begin to describe. I just love it so damn much. Liv and Dean have a perfectly imperfect romance, which is just all the more remarkable after all the pain, hurt, and heartbreak they experience. It’s not an easy road towards a happily ever after for these two, but the journey getting there is stunning to read.

And I am just in awe with Nina Lane’s writing! It’s beautiful, it’s lush, and it’s exquisite to read. Her writing really makes me fall in love with the story over and over again, because I’d read these sentences, or even these paragraphs, that are just filled with emotion. It’s breathtaking, really. So if anything, I recommend reading this series for the writing. BUT it’s not just the writing that makes this series incredible! Dean and Liv West have a captivating and beautiful romance that warmed my heart, that made me smile and giggle and sigh, that made me fall in love, and I just can’t recommend this series enough. But now that the series is finished… I’m going to miss Dean and Liv so, so much.

Love the one who proves to you that happily ever after is only the beginning.

Series: Demonica #10 (full reading order below)

WARRIOR OF HEAVEN

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he’s agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before…to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

ANGEL OF HELL

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she’s been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan’s lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld’s darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel’s blood…

Reaver is pure freaking awesome! It’s intense, exciting, and sexy, and another excellent addition to the incredible Lords of Deliverance series. Larissa Ione is a master at paranormal romance. To be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve read any books from that genre, but what better way to go than with Larissa Ione? I adore her writing, which had me laughing out loud numerous times, and since you know it’s Larissa Ione, it’s hot hot hot! Scorching hot, really. Reaver is one sexy angel.

In Reaver, the fifth book of the series, we finally, finally get the whole truth with Reaver and Harvester’s past. And let me tell you, it’s truly heartbreaking. Both Reaver and Harvester have made terrible mistakes, and accepted the consequences, but at least they own up to them. At the beginning of the story, Harvester is taken by Satan (her father!) and tortured for being a traitor. She used to be an angel, but she gave up her wings to become a fallen angel and work as an undercover agent in hell. And guess who goes to rescue her? Reaver!

Reaver has always been a side character in the previous books, but now he’s up front and center, and I truly wasn’t disappointed with his story. He’s a hilarious character, so snarky and sarcastic, but he’s a good guy at heart. All he really wants is to get back his memories of the past. Well, that’s maybe not all he wants. Ever since finding out that Harvester has been working on the good side, he can’t get her out of his head.

I really liked Harvester’s character. She has a lot of depth, and she’s very complicated. But I loved how she’s so tough and badass. Her time in hell has hardened her heart, and because of her past with Reaver, she hates him, even though she’s attracted to him. They have an incredible chemistry together. The only thing I wish could be better was if there was more Harvester and Reaver time. I liked that they have history together, but I really wanted more romance! But the action and twists and turns were so good that I forgave that part. Even though there wasn’t as much romance as I wanted, I knew that Reaver and Harvester were perfect for each other. They are crazy hot together, but they can also be sweet, and I adored that part of their relationship.

And the action! Oh my god, it was crazy intense. Reaver kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time reading, and there were things that I never saw coming. What a wild ride Reaver is. It’s thrilling, heart-pounding, hot, intense, and everything I expected for these two incredibly complex angels. Fans of the series won’t be disappointed with Reaver.

Review: Ricochet by Krista & Becca Ritchie

Ricochet by Krista & Becca Ritchie

Ricochet by Krista & Becca Ritchie
Series: Addicted #1.5 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: August 1st 2013
Links: Ebook • Paperback • Audible • Goodreads

As a sex addict, Lily Calloway must do the impossible. Stay celibate for 90 days.

Cravings and fantasies become her new routine, but while Loren Hale recovers from his alcohol addiction, Lily wonders if he’ll realize what a monster she really is. After all, her sexual compulsions begin to rule her life the longer she stays faithful to him.

Progress. That’s what Lily’s striving for. But by trying to become closer to her family—people who aren’t aware of her addiction—she creates larger obstacles. When she spends time with her youngest sister, she learns more about her than she ever imagined and senses an unsettling connection between Daisy and Ryke Meadows.

With Lily and Lo’s dysfunctional relationship teetering and unbalanced, they will need to find a way to reconnect from miles apart. But the inability to “touch” proves to be one of the hardest tests on their road to recovery. Some love brushes the surface. Some love is deeper than skin.

Lily and Lo have three months to discover just how deep their love really goes.

I was debating whether I should review this book or not, since I zipped through this in order to read Addicted for Now, but what the hell, I loved this book, so I want to gush! It was so much fun to read, and there’s so much going on in this book. It’s actually a full-length sized novel, even though it’s book 1.5, but I was totally fine with that! Because I whole-heartedly adore this series! It’s become my new favorite series. I really can’t believe I didn’t start it the second Addicted to You came out. Actually, no–I’d rather the entire series already be out for me to read… because it’s killing me to wait for Connor and Rose’s story (Kiss the Sky), Ryke and Daisy’s (Hothouse Flower), and the rest of Lily and Lo’s. So if you haven’t read this series, please, please do. It’s incredibly well written, the characters are imperfectly perfect, and you’ll fall in love with every single one of them, like I did (with Connor and Ryke especially).

And I don’t think… I don’t think many people can really understand what it’s like to be so invested in someone–to share every single moment and then to have them ripped from you. We have an unhealthy, co-dependent relationship.
I know this.
And I’m trying to change, to grow beyond him, but why does that have to be a stipulation?
I want to grow with him.
I want to be with him.
I want to love Lo without people telling me that our love is too much.
One day, I hope we’ll get there. Hope, that’s all I have to go on right now. It’s my driving force. It’s literally what keeps me standing.

This quote basically sums up what Lily is going through in Ricochet. After the mess they were in during Addicted to You, Lily and Lo finally found the help Lo needed to fight his alcoholism and he’s off the rehab now, leaving Lily alone to battle her own addiction. Which is, ahem, to sex. And she can’t have sex during the three months Lo is in rehab, not only for Lo and their relationship, but also for herself. She has to fight her addiction just as Lo is fighting his own.

The authors are so freaking gooood at wringing out the emotions, the pain and desperation Lily feels. She’s terrified that she’ll fall to temptation without Lo there to help her, but she’ll fight through it for him, because the only thing she wants more than sex is Lo. And even though Lo doesn’t show up much in the book, we know that he’d give Lily the world if she wanted it. It’s this kind of intensity, this kind of connection, that I love about Lily and Lo and their relationship. They make me love them and feel so much for them, hurt so much for them, and in the end, cheer for them.

“I love you,” he says again, “and no other man will ever say those words and mean them the way I do.”

But I have to admit, a large part of why I loved Ricochet (and this series)? The fantastic secondary characters. We have more of Connor, Rose, Ryke, and a new addition, Daisy, all of whom are Lily and Lo’s closest friends and family. Don’t you just love books where the secondary characters are just as invigorating to read about as the main characters? I love it when authors can make me care and love the them just as much as the main characters. And Krista and Becca Ritchie do an excellent job at that. I fell in love even more with Connor, Rose, Ryke, and Daisy. Each of them have such distinctive personalities, strengths, and faults that I love to read about.

In Ricochet, we get bunches more of Ryke, the flaming asshole, and Daisy, the model and sixteen-year-old. I had to mention Daisy’s age, because in this book, Daisy and Ryke have something going on. They’re not together or sleeping with each other or anythign like that (because that’d be a hello to jail-time for Ryke), but they have something forming, and oh my god, I can’t wait for Daisy to turn eighteen! *evil, giddy laugh* Daisy and Ryke’s story is seriously going to rock my socks off. But anyway, the three of them plus Daisy’s friends have gone on a yacht to Mexico for Daisy’s birthday, and this was seriously the funniest part of the book. Lily is already a hilarious narrator, but with Ryke, the abrasive, rude, no-words-held-back guy, on vacation with her? Best thing ever. But I loved that even with the hysterics, Ryke truly does have a positive influence on Lily, and supports her throughout her abstinence.

“One,” I say in a small voice. “I will not look at porn.”
“I thought this was supposed to be a proclamation.” Ryke rocks on the balls of his feet. He leans forward and says, “I can’t even hear you.”
“Say it like you mean it,” Rose agrees with a supportive nod.
“Scream it,” Connor adds.
“I will not look at porn!” …
“Two. I will not masturbate!” …
“Three. I will not be compulsive about sex!” …
“And four,” I pause as I look at these final words. They mean the absolute most to me. “I will not cheat on Loren Hale!”

And so month by month, Lily tries her hardest to not have sex. She has the unwavering support of Rose, Connor, and Ryke, and she’s even started seeing a therapist. We also get to see various flashbacks of when Lily and Lo were younger, and they are so freaking adorable together. But with these flashbacks, we also see vaguely how Lily became addicted to sex. There are uphills and downhills for Lily and Lo in the past and the present, but at least now they’re choosing to fight their addictions and fight for each other.

No guy touched me. I didn’t touch them. Sex was the last thing on my mind tonight.
Each day feels like an obstacle.
And a victory.

Ricochet is more of a companion book to the series, but I’d still highly recommend reading it. There are things in Ricochet that are mentioned in Addicted for Now (book 2), and the storylines for Rose and Connor, and Daisy and Ryke build up more in this book. Ricochet takes place during those three months Lily and Lo are apart because of rehab, and we get to see how Lily copes without her lifeline. Fans of the series won’t be disappointed with Ricochet.

This book – and series – is the bomb. Seriously.
