Kalliope lives with one purpose.

To inspire.

As an immortal muse, she doesn’t have any other choice. It’s part of how she was made. Musicians, artists, actors—they use her to advance their art, and she uses them to survive. She moves from one artist to the next, never staying long enough to get attached. But all she wants is a different life— a normal one. She’s spent thousands of years living lie after lie, and now she’s ready for something real.

Sweet, sexy, and steady, Wilder Bell feels more real than anything else in her long existence. And most importantly… he’s not an artist. He doesn’t want her for her ability. But she can’t turn off the way she influences people, not even to save a man she might love. Because in small doses, she can help make something beautiful, but her ability has just as much capacity to destroy as it does to create. The longer she stays, the more obsessed Wilder will become. It’s happened before, and it never turns out well for the mortal.

Her presence may inspire genius.

But it breeds madness, too.

review

I’m a big fan of Cora Carmack’s Losing It and when I heard she was going to write a new adult PARANORMAL book, I was all for it! There aren’t NA paranormal books that I’ve read, but it’s a genre I fully support. And if you’re thinking of venturing into the genre, then Inspire is the perfect way to start! I highly enjoyed Inspire – it’s a fun, unique, and deeply romantic read that will have you wanting so much more.

Inspire is about the mythical immortal being Kalliope, one of the nine muses who lives to inspire art, music, and the like. She HAS to let out inspiration into people, otherwise there are painful consequences for her. So she creates relationships with artists, musicians, etc. and gives them inspiration, but sometimes the artists get addicted or obsessed. So Kalli has lived for thousands of years not forming any long-lasting relationships, but everything changes when she meets Wilder Bell.

Kalli is a great heroine. She may be an immortal being who’s thousands of years old, but Cora Carmack created her in a way that she’s down to earth and relatable. She’s funny and sweet, and my heart went out to her and her pain of having been so alone for so long. When she meets Wilder, she feels a connection with him. If she were human, they would have been perfect together. But she’s immortal and nothing can happen between them. Kalli never expects to see Wilder again, but when she does, she can’t resist him a second time.

Wilder is literally the PERFECT guy. Okay, maybe he’s not perfect; perfectly imperfect would be a better word for him. I fell so hard for this man. He’s sweet and wonderful and naughty and sexy… There are SO many facets to his character and he truly made the perfect package. When Wilder meets Kalli, he never expects to see her again either, but he can’t get her out of his mind. One chance encounter later, he’s determined to make her his.

I honestly can’t even describe how sweet Wilder is. He’s patient but determined to win Kalli over. And when he falls for her, he falls so. hard. He loves her fiercely, willing to do anything to make her happy, because she makes him happy. And what makes him even better? The fact that he takes responsibility for his family. He attends college while working at a job to support his mother and little sister. His little sister Gwen is the most adorable thing ever! And Wilder + Gwen = melting heart.

It’s difficult for Kalli to stay with Wilder because she doesn’t want to hurt him by her power, and when she falls for him, she has to decide on how their future will play out. How long can she stay with him until he realizes that she’s not aging and he is? Kalli’s dilemma had my heart clenching, even while my heart was swooning when she and Wilder were together.

Inspire was such a fun, unique, romantic read. I adored Wilder and Kalli, and their romance swept me away. If you’re looking a new adult book with a unique twist, then Inspire is the perfect read!

Release Day Review: Owning Violet by Monica Murphy

Owning Violet by Monica Murphy

Owning Violet by Monica Murphy
Series: The Fowler Sisters #1 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: December 2nd 2014
Purchase: Ebook • Paperback • Audible • Goodreads
Source: I received an ARC from the publisher (Bantam) in exchange for an honest review

New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy begins a sexy new contemporary romance series—perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Emma Chase—that introduces three sisters born to wealth, raised to succeed, ready to love, destined to make waves.

I’ve moved through life doing what’s expected of me. I’m the middle daughter, the dutiful daughter. The one who braved a vicious attack and survived. The one who devoted herself to her family’s business empire. The one who met an ambitious man and fell in love. We were going to run Fleur Cosmetics together, Zachary and I.

Until he got a promotion and left me in the dust. Maybe it’s for the best, between his disloyalty and his wandering eye. But another man was waiting for me. Wanting me. He too has an overwhelming thirst for success, just like Zachary—perhaps even more so. He’s also ruthless. And mysterious. I know nothing about Ryder McKay beyond that he makes me feel things I’ve never felt before.

One stolen moment, a kiss, a touch . . . and I’m hooked. Ryder’s like a powerful drug, and I’m an addict who doesn’t want to be cured. He tells me his intentions aren’t pure, and I believe him. For once, I don’t care. I’m willing to risk everything just to be with him. Including my heart. My soul.

My everything.

I’m such a big fan of Monica Murphy, so when I heard she had a new series coming out, I jumped at the chance to read it! Owning Violet is the first book in the Fowler Sisters series and it. is. HOT. You’ll need a fan while you read this because Monica Murphy turns up the heat between a good girl and a very, very bad boy. I highly enjoyed this one – I loved the characters, the sexiness, and the angst. It did take me a bit to warm up to the book, but before long, I was addicted to everything about this story.

Owning Violet is a romance between complete opposites: Violet, the proper, good daughter who will one day run the family business; and Ryder, the dark, wicked man who is way too tempting for his own good. When I first met Violet, I wasn’t too sure how to feel about her. Her life is perfectly set up – she’s been groomed to take over Fleur Cosmetics and she’s the perfect, attentive girlfriend. In other words, she’s a bit boring. But then enter Ryder McKay. He’s everything Violet isn’t – sensual, wicked, intense – and she can’t stay away from him.

Ryder is a jerk. He is ambitious, ruthless, and has no qualms about who he has to bulldoze over in order to climb up the corporate ladder. He works at Fleur Cosmetics, but he wants a better position – the same position that Violet’s boyfriend Zachary is aiming for. And with Violet being the boss’s daughter, Ryder concocts a plan to seduce her to win her father’s attention and favor. When Violet and Zachary break up, Ryder makes his move. But the more Ryder immerses himself in his plan, the more he can’t stop thinking of Violet – or wanting her for himself.

Hell. I feel like I could come apart. With her like this, I feel as if I could spiral out of control at any moment. All I want is her. All I can think about is fucking her. Making her mine. Owning her.

Violet knows what kind of man Ryder is, but she wants to step out of her comfort zone after years of being the proper daughter and girlfriend and Ryder is the perfect man to help her do that. And oh. my. god. The sex in this book is on fire!! There’s a fierce, carnal hunger between these two and chemistry is explosive. But it’s when Ryder and Violet spend time outside of the bedroom that Violet falls for this man, even when she tries to guard her heart.

“You don’t seem like the sort of man who likes waiting.”
“Depends on the woman,” he says. And then he’s touching me, his hand is cupping my cheek, his face is in mine, his body blocking out all available light until he’s everything I see and feel and touch. “And you are definitely worth waiting for.”

Ryder never expects that he’ll actually want more from Violet than just her body. He never expects to fall for this girl who is his complete opposite and has so much goodness in her. I loved seeing this harsh, ruthless man fall in love with someone he believes deserves so much better than him. He’s a jerk, but he’s a jerk I couldn’t help but love. My heart was aching for Ryder, at the realization that if Violet ever finds out about his plan, he could lose the best thing that has ever happened to him.

We shouldn’t make sense together. She’s sweet and good and I’m mean and awful. She cares too much and I have zero fucks to give. A woman like Violet deserves to be worshiped and loved. She’s powerful and smart and gorgeous and sexy and…
Fuck. I want to be the one who worships her and loves her and tells her just how smart and sexy she is every day. For the rest of her life.

I had such a great time reading Owning Violet. My heart was going crazy for Violet and Ryder! ‘Opposites attract’ takes on a new meaning for these two characters. Owning Violet is fast-paced and highly addicting. I highly recommend this book – Monica Murphy fans, you don’t want to miss this!

A Bet…

Yes, I made a bet with my best friend—my now ex-best friend. It had been a stupid, heat of the moment kind of thing. I’d just wanted to get her out of my system and move one. Instead I’ve lived to regret it ever since. I lost the girl I loved, a girl that possessed my very soul. Now I can’t even get close to Natalie. She thinks all she ever meant to me was just the means to the end of a stupid, stupid game.

…For a Bet!

In the span of one night I’d gone from thinking I had a future with the man I loved to SHATTERED at his feet. I can’t get over it. The pain is too strong, too destructive as it festers more and more inside of me. And then my friend came up with the perfect revenge for both our broken hearts.

“I bet you…”

Those three little words gave me a reason to ball my pain up and throw it back in Devlin Cutter’s face. I would let him back in, let him think he had a chance with me once again. And then I would walk away, leaving him broken and bleeding at my feet as he once had left me.

This time he would be the one SHATTERED.

review

It was all a lie. My relationship with Devlin Cutter was nothing more than the product of Devlin wanting to win some bet against his friend. All our nights spent in each other’s arms, all his whispered words of how much he cared about me, worshipped me… They were all lies. I was nothing more than a bet. Nothing. I was nothing to him.

Oh goooosh!!! This. book. Ever since I got addicted to The Rocker series, Devlin and Natalie’s book was THE book I was waiting for. I mean, look at that blurb! I’m such a sucker for these types of books where the hero has to win back the heroine’s love. These books just make my heart ache, and The Rocker Who Shatters Me did it perfectly.

The Rocker Who Shatters Me is another addicting book from Terri Anne Browning. It’s my second favorite of the series so far, right below Drake’s book. I totally adore the characters in The Rocker world, and I loved seeing more of the members of OtherWorld.

When Natalie found out about the bet between Devlin and Zander, her heart was shattered, rightly so. She loved Devlin, and she was devastated to find out that their relationship started on a lie. She wants nothing to do with him now, but as Emmie’s assistant, Natalie unfortunately has to interact with the OtherWorld band members, which includes Devlin.

I liked Natalie, but it was Devlin who made the book for me. It’s so obvious that Devlin wholeheartedly loves Natalie, bet or no bet. It was a mistake to make the bet in the first place, but losing Natalie just makes Devlin all the more determined to win her back and have her in his life for good.

This was my girl. My woman. I wanted, needed–loved her more than anything on the planet. Without her I had nothing, was nothing.

Devlin and Natalie have a great chemistry together, and Devlin uses that to try to get Natalie back. Natalie resists, but it’s hard to keep resisting when Devlin says things like this…:

“You have got to be blind if you don’t see how much I care about you. Every day I wake up without you in my arms is another day I suffer the fires of hell. All I want is you beside me, baby.”

Natalie has a hard time believing Devlin, but Devlin won’t stop until he wins back her love, heart, and trust.

It’s so easy to fall in love with Terri Anne Browning’s characters. You become so invested in all of them, and Devlin and Natalie are no different. I adored their story, though it was a little repetitive in the beginning. My heart was aching from how much Devlin needed Natalie back. Seeing him winning back her love is just the best thing ever! I’m so happy with their story, and now I’m CRAZY excited for the next book!

about the author

Having had a passion for reading from the time my aunt first handed me my first romance, I slowly grew bored with just reading. I wanted to control the characters, make them into who I wanted them to be and that way I was never disappointed with the endings. I soon learned that it isn’t always that easy. The characters control the author. But that is all part of the fun when creating a new story. Seeing where these people take you on their journey to find their soul-mate has become my new passion and getting to incorporate my love of music–Rock music in particular–has been a dream come true. Thanks for taking this crazy ride with me, and I can’t wait to see where we go next!

Graham Malone is my roommate, my personal eye candy, the reason I get up in the morning smiling (that could be from the illicit dreams I have about him too, I suppose. Let’s move on.). He’s also beautiful to look at, but his heart is where his true beauty lies. Take away the exterior and the interior still shines.

I love him. I mean, I’m pretty sure I do, having never been in love before. Anyway, it seems legit.

And now his brother Blake is here, and, well, he’s the complete opposite of Graham. Sarcastic, brooding, and totally available. But he’s leaving soon, and Graham’s the one I want. I shouldn’t have to remind myself of this, right? I wouldn’t have to if Blake would quit looking at me like I’m something yummy and he’s starving.

Here’s a toast to roomies; the ones you should never fall in love with. Or something.

review

ADORABLE.

Roomies is A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E.

I loved Lindy Zart’s Unlit Star (my review), but that book was utterly gut-wrenching, so I was a bit scared to read another book of hers that would end up making my heart bleed. But Roomies is pure romantic comedy – it had me laughing and giggling like a fool so much. I adored this book – which goes to show what an excellent writer Lindy Zart is. She’ll have you wanting to cry in one book, and then laughing out loud in the next.

Roomies is light-hearted, adorable, and just plain ole fun! I wasn’t exactly sure what I’d be getting into when I read the blurb, but I trusted the author. We have our heroine, Kennedy, who is the heart of this book. She’s truly what made Roomies as adorable as it is. She’s hilarious, awkward, inappropriate, sarcastic, and did I mention hilarious? At first, I was a bit taken aback by how outspoken she was, but she quickly grew on me. I loved her!

Kennedy is roomies with Graham… and she’s pretty much in love with him. They’ve been roommates for about a year, and they’ve become best friends. Graham is the only one who gets her – he gets her quirks, her pervyness, her frankness, her everything. Graham knows all there is to know about Kennedy, excerpt for the fact that she’s in love with him.

Now, Graham… Graham is like the golden boy. He’s nearly perfect. In Kennedy’s own words:

When God put Graham Malone together, He had beauty in mind, I’m sure, but that isn’t even the appeal, not really. The appeal is him–the way he laughs, the sound of his voice, and his sweet, sweet nature. Yes, he is beautiful, but what makes him even more beautiful is that he has no idea.
… He’s just… he makes your heart fill with something like joy and all of you turns warm when you’re near him. You respond to him with not just your mind and your body, but all of you. At least, that’s how it is for me.

Graham is just a GOOD guy, and I loved that about him. I more often than not read about bad boys, but whenever I come across a male character who is good, I appreciate them all the more. Graham is kind, loyal, honest, and so sweet. God, I fell in love with his character so hard. And the things he says to Kennedy! *SWOON*

“You know what I thought the first time I saw you?”
“That you couldn’t believe someone as gorgeous as me existed?”
His grip tightens. “That I couldn’t believe I’d gone so long without knowing you.”

Graham and Kennedy are literally perfect for each other, but Kennedy has never received any indication that Graham reciprocates her feelings. It’s not until Graham’s brother Blake moves in with them temporarily that the dynamics start to change between them. Kennedy loves Graham, there’s no doubt about that, but she finds herself attracted to Blake. Now, before you can scream Love Triangle! let me just say that this book doesn’t REALLY have one. Blake is more of a… catalyst than anything. Kennedy IS attracted to Blake (the Malone brothers are seriously hot and swoonworthy), but he’s nothing compared to Graham, because she still wholeheartedly loves Graham.

He knows me like no one else does. And I’m glad of that. I wouldn’t want anyone else to get me the way Graham does. I realize I understand what he said last night about going so long without knowing me. It feels like we have always been, though we have only been in each other’s lives such a short time. But time does not define emotion. And I cannot imagine my life without him, no matter how far into the future I look. I inhale deeply.
That is a terrifying thought.

Thanks to Blake, we get to see Graham get a little jealous and a little possessive over his roomie, which was hot! Graham fights his feelings for Kennedy a bit, but when he finally gives in and starts pursuing her for good, it’s the sweetest and most heart-warming thing ever.

Roomies is a feel-good, light-hearted romance that had my heart bursting with joy. I adored this book and these characters.

Now here’s an excerpt from Roomies! ❤

excerpt

He gives a slight smile. “You don’t know everything about me.”

“I should know that.” Maybe I shouldn’t, but I really feel like I should. Graham’s pretty much the most important thing to me; I should at least know his family history. He knows mine. Well, most of it. Some of it. Enough…

“Now you do. Are we done? I really need to put some clothes on.”

“But…you said he was in school,” I finish lamely, my voice dropping to a whisper.

“He’s in college.”

I scowl at him. “You purposely led me to believe that your brother was some pimply teenager who was going to mooch off you for the remainder of the summer, not…not…” I jab a finger in the direction of the living room.

“Not what?”

“Not some hottie!” I blurt out, and then wish I hadn’t.

Especially when Graham rears back and gets a funny look on his face. “You think my brother’s hot?” His voice is even, but his eyes look weird. Like, angry or something. A thrill goes down my spine at the thought of my comment having that effect on him. Could he be jealous?

“Yes.” I nod firmly.

“Huh.” He looks away.

A dash of regret has the audacity to chase the little thrill away. I wonder if I’ve upset him, but then decide I haven’t. Why would he be upset? Unless he doesn’t know I think he’s hot too. So I figure I should tell him. It would be rude not to.

“You’re also hot.”

He gives me a look; part incredulous, part I don’t know what. “Thanks,” he says faintly.

“Yeah.” I start to feel dumb about pretty much the whole conversation. “Okay. ‘Bye.”

“’Bye.”

I glance back at him. He is staring at me with a frown pulling his mouth down. “You should put some clothes on.”

“Right.”

I enter the living room. Blake is studying a fake plant in the corner of the room, which pretty much confirms that he was listening to our complete word exchange. Wonderful.

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author returns with a sizzling novel of love, loss, guilt, and forgiveness.

When Grey and Ben fell in love at thirteen, they believed they’d be together forever. They never dreamed that three days before their wedding, twenty-year-old Ben would suddenly die from an unknown heart condition, destroying his would-be-bride’s world. Grey would have spent the next two years simply going through the motions if it hadn’t been for their best friend, Jagger. He’s the only one who understands her pain … the only one who knows what it’s like to force yourself to keep moving when your dreams are shattered.

While everyone else worries over Grey’s fragility, Jagger is the only one who sees her strength, and vows to always be there for her-even if it’s only as her best friend. As much as he wants Grey, he knows her heart will always be with Ben. But when Grey finds out that Jagger has loved her since before he even knew what love was, it might prove to be too much for her to handle.

Grey soon realizes their chemistry is undeniable, and they learn that admitting their feelings for each other means they’ve got to face the past. Is being together what Ben would have wanted . . . or a betrayal of his memory that will eventually destroy them both?

Oh, wow. This book completely took me by surprise, and I loved it. It was the perfectly angsty read – not too much that it was excessive, but just enough to have me aching for the characters to get a happily ever after they deserved. I grew to care for Grey and Jagger. Theirs is a story about losing a loved one, but letting go and moving on all the while finding love again.

“Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It’s accepting, forgiving, and being emotionally ready to keep moving.”

Grey and Ben had the type of romance people dream about – they were childhood best friends, they loved each other since they were young, they were going to get married – until everything changes when Ben unexpectedly dies right before their wedding. Grey is devastated, and the one person who can pick up the pieces of her heart and soul is Jagger. Jagger, was also Ben and Grey’s best friend… Jagger, who has always been in love with Grey.

Jagger has been the one constant Grey has been relying on the two years after Ben’s death. She’s not over his death, but she’s slowly moving forward, which she could never have done without Jagger. Jagger is just happy the girl he loves is slowly healing, even if she has to take it day by day. He doesn’t need her to love him back, he doesn’t need her to know he’s in love with her – he’s content to be there by her side. But everything changes when Grey finds out Jagger is in love with her.

“I love you. I’m pretty sure I’ve been in love with you since we were nine, Grey,” he admitted. “I always felt like you were mine . . . I was in love with you long before I knew what it actually meant to be in love with someone.”

Jagger is literally the sweetest hero I’ve ever read. He makes my heart hurt with how much he loves Grey, how much he’ll do anything for her. He really is the perfect hero for Grey: he’s patient, loving, understanding, kind. He doesn’t push Grey to love him back; he’ll accept anything she’s willing to give.

As Grey reconciles how she’ll love anyone after Ben, she comes to realize that she’s been in love with Jagger for a while. Somewhere along the way, she fell for him, but she feels like she’s betraying Ben for falling for his best friend. It’s tough seeing the anguish going through both Grey and Jagger, but Molly McAdams writes them in the most realistic way as possible. I never once felt the story was too unbelievable or fake. I was able to feel Jagger and Grey’s love for each other, a thing that could never be considered wrong or a betrayal. These two were always meant to be together.

There’s so much heartbreak for Grey and Jagger, but they come out stronger in the end. Letting Go is a heartwarming romance that shows that you can find love even after the most devastating of circumstances. It’s an emotionally exhausting read, but I’m glad I had the chance to read Grey and Jagger’s beautiful story.

about the author button

Molly McAdams grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry daughter. Her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling and long walks on the beach, which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. When she’s not at work, she can be found hiding out in her bedroom surrounded by her laptop, cell, Kindle and fighting over the TV remote. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm…or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.
