I was a huge fan of the first book in The Fowler Sisters series, Owning Violet, but the second book, Stealing Rose, was a let down. I was hoping Taming Lily would renew my love for the series, but sadly, it was only an okay read. I liked it more than Stealing Rose, but not by much. I just didn’t connect with the characters, and the book was too full of sex with little substance to the story. I really wanted to like Lily’s book – while it’s not a bad read, it just wasn’t as good as I’d hoped it would be.

Lily Fowler is the oldest and wildest of the three Fowler sisters. She’s the last of the sisters to fall in love, and Monica Murphy certainly doesn’t make Lily’s journey to love easy. Lily is in Hawaii, on the run from Pillar, Lily’s father’s girlfriend, who is also a total bitch. Lily is a woman with a whole mess of Daddy issues, and she acted out in her earlier years by becoming what everyone thought she was – a spoiled, rich, party girl. Deep down, she’s hurt by her family, who has no faith in her. While I tried to empathize with Lily and her issues, it was hard to – I couldn’t connect with her character, and I found myself annoyed when she never spoke up for herself.

Unfortunately, Lily’s getaway to Hawaii doesn’t go as well as she plans. She nearly drowns in the ocean, but a mysterious man comes out of nowhere and saves her life. She recognizes him as the sexy man who’s been watching her – she’s suspicious of him, but she can’t help feeling attracted to him.

I’m drawn to her, and not just because she’s my assignment. Feeling like this … letting my attraction to her distract me is risky. Stupid.
But I can’t seem to help it.

Max has been hired by Pillar to steal Lily’s laptop, so he follows her on her trip to Hawaii, but he never expects to end up wanting her. There’s a strong chemistry between them they can’t ignore, and once they fall into bed with each other, it becomes explosive. Monica Murphy is fantastic at writing hot, steamy scenes, and Taming Lily didn’t disappoint. There’s good sex in this book, but there was also too much of it – the majority of the time Lily and Max are together is spent in bed. I couldn’t really see how they fell for each other, especially when Max sometimes came off as a little creepy, stalker-wise.

My heart is beating like crazy, pounding to a rhythm that suspiciously sounds like her name. Li-ly. Li-ly. It’s fucking crazy. I’m crazy.
Crazy for her.

Max keeps the reason why he’s in Hawaii a secret from Lily, of course, but secrets can’t stay quiet for long. Max now has to fight for the woman he’s fallen for, all the while protecting her from Pillar.

“I feel like you were made for me, Lily. That we were made for each other.”

There’s no doubt Monica Murphy can write hot chemistry, but the story and characters in Taming Lily felt lacking. I was less than impressed with the way things played out, and I just couldn’t for the life of me connect with the hero or heroine. I was really hoping to like Taming Lily, since I’d been excited for Lily’s book since Owning Violet, but the book ended up only being okay. It’s not necessarily a bad read, but it wasn’t as good as I was expecting.

I highly enjoyed the first book of The Fowler Sisters series, so of course I was looking forward to Rose’s book! Unfortunately, Stealing Rose fell a bit flat for me. I definitely didn’t enjoy Rose’s book as much as I did Violet’s. I had a hard time liking or connecting with the main characters, and though the plot held potential, because I didn’t like the characters, the story just wasn’t working for me. My heart just wasn’t into this book, sadly. It mostly an okay read – though if you’re a fan of Owning Violet, I still think you should give Stealing Rose a try. You might like it more than I did.

I don’t measure up. I’m in Lily’s and Violet’s shadows and I hate it. The biggest obstacle I’ve ever had to overcome is being their baby sister. They’ll always be ahead of me, no matter what I do or what I say.
Being the youngest sucks.

Rose is the youngest of the three Fowler sisters, and she’s the sister that’s always overlooked. She doesn’t feel appreciated at her job at Fleur Cosmetics – she’s a hard worker, but no one, not even her father, the head of the company, notices. And when her father is promoting his nasty bitch of a girlfriend instead of Rose, Rose decides to say fuck it, resign, and take some time to herself.

Caden Kingsley is a thief. He cons and steals from the rich to help support himself and his mother after his late father left them destitute. He’s good at what he does, even though he’s not exactly proud of it – he’s a criminal, plain and simple. When Caden and Rose meet for the first time, Caden is aiming to steal a necklace of hers, but he never expects to feel a connection with her. He decides to pursue her, but he can’t have both the necklace and the girl. So which would he choose?

For once, I want to stick. I want to live a real life, not some constant con game. I want to be real with Rose. And if that means sometimes it gets ugly, and sometimes I’m scared, mad, sad, or whatever-the-hell emotion I’m struggling with, I still want to do it.
So I’ve got to fight for it. Own it. Own me. Own her.
Own us.

It’s a whirlwind romance for Rose and Caden, though Caden is keeping what he does a secret. He’s no longer entirely sure about his ‘career’ as a thief. It threatens what he has with Rose, and he has to decide whether he can give up his life as a thief for something that could turn into so much more.

You stole my heart, Ro. I may be the professional, but with us, you’re the thief. You reached right into my chest and took my heart like it fully belonged to you. And I think it does.

Stealing Rose had tons and TONS of sex! Oh my lord, Caden and Rose no doubt heat up the pages, but sometimes it felt a bit too excessive. In this case, I would have rather had more character and story development than sex. This was mainly why I didn’t grow to care for Rose or Caden – all they did was have sex. The romance just didn’t feel like it grew in a genuine way. I didn’t understand how these two fell in love with each other. As for the characters themselves, Rose didn’t feel strong enough to me – the development with her and her father/job wasn’t too clear, and it felt rushed at the end. I liked Caden a little better, with the way he wanted to change into a better man for Rose.

I wasn’t a fan of Rose or Caden, but that didn’t entirely ruin the book. I enjoyed it well enough. Caden was redeeming at the end, which ended the book on a much better note. If you’re a fan of a hot and steamy book with an intriguing storyline, you might enjoy Stealing Rose more than I did.

I’m such a big fan of Monica Murphy, so when I heard she had a new series coming out, I jumped at the chance to read it! Owning Violet is the first book in the Fowler Sisters series and it. is. HOT. You’ll need a fan while you read this because Monica Murphy turns up the heat between a good girl and a very, very bad boy. I highly enjoyed this one – I loved the characters, the sexiness, and the angst. It did take me a bit to warm up to the book, but before long, I was addicted to everything about this story.

Owning Violet is a romance between complete opposites: Violet, the proper, good daughter who will one day run the family business; and Ryder, the dark, wicked man who is way too tempting for his own good. When I first met Violet, I wasn’t too sure how to feel about her. Her life is perfectly set up – she’s been groomed to take over Fleur Cosmetics and she’s the perfect, attentive girlfriend. In other words, she’s a bit boring. But then enter Ryder McKay. He’s everything Violet isn’t – sensual, wicked, intense – and she can’t stay away from him.

Ryder is a jerk. He is ambitious, ruthless, and has no qualms about who he has to bulldoze over in order to climb up the corporate ladder. He works at Fleur Cosmetics, but he wants a better position – the same position that Violet’s boyfriend Zachary is aiming for. And with Violet being the boss’s daughter, Ryder concocts a plan to seduce her to win her father’s attention and favor. When Violet and Zachary break up, Ryder makes his move. But the more Ryder immerses himself in his plan, the more he can’t stop thinking of Violet – or wanting her for himself.

Hell. I feel like I could come apart. With her like this, I feel as if I could spiral out of control at any moment. All I want is her. All I can think about is fucking her. Making her mine. Owning her.

Violet knows what kind of man Ryder is, but she wants to step out of her comfort zone after years of being the proper daughter and girlfriend and Ryder is the perfect man to help her do that. And oh. my. god. The sex in this book is on fire!! There’s a fierce, carnal hunger between these two and chemistry is explosive. But it’s when Ryder and Violet spend time outside of the bedroom that Violet falls for this man, even when she tries to guard her heart.

“You don’t seem like the sort of man who likes waiting.”
“Depends on the woman,” he says. And then he’s touching me, his hand is cupping my cheek, his face is in mine, his body blocking out all available light until he’s everything I see and feel and touch. “And you are definitely worth waiting for.”

Ryder never expects that he’ll actually want more from Violet than just her body. He never expects to fall for this girl who is his complete opposite and has so much goodness in her. I loved seeing this harsh, ruthless man fall in love with someone he believes deserves so much better than him. He’s a jerk, but he’s a jerk I couldn’t help but love. My heart was aching for Ryder, at the realization that if Violet ever finds out about his plan, he could lose the best thing that has ever happened to him.

We shouldn’t make sense together. She’s sweet and good and I’m mean and awful. She cares too much and I have zero fucks to give. A woman like Violet deserves to be worshiped and loved. She’s powerful and smart and gorgeous and sexy and…
Fuck. I want to be the one who worships her and loves her and tells her just how smart and sexy she is every day. For the rest of her life.

I had such a great time reading Owning Violet. My heart was going crazy for Violet and Ryder! ‘Opposites attract’ takes on a new meaning for these two characters. Owning Violet is fast-paced and highly addicting. I highly recommend this book – Monica Murphy fans, you don’t want to miss this!

I really, really wanted to like Colin and Jen’s story, but it was just… okay. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. Colin and Jen didn’t suck me in like Drew and Fable did, and I didn’t connect as much with them. I was super excited for Jen and Colin after reading Second Chance Boyfriend, because they seemed like great characters. But… this is one of those cases where I’m sad to say had a great potential, but just fell a bit flat.

Jen is Fable’s friend and co-worker at the restaurant that Colin owns. It turns out that Jen and Colin go way back–Jen is the little sister of Colin’s best friend who died in Iraq. It’s been two years since his death, and Jen has grieved and moved on, but Colin has not. He constantly has nightmares about his best friend’s death, and every time, Jen goes to his bed to console him. Jen has been living with Colin since he took her in when she was at a very low point in her life, and he pretty much saved her. Jen’s always had a crush on Colin, and her love for him has bloomed even more so ever since he saved her, but he doesn’t return her feelings. At least, she doesn’t think he does. And so Jen has nothing left for her in the city where she lives except for bad memories, and she wants to leave. But will Colin let her?

Colin’s going to be angry that I’m leaving, but maybe, the tattoo will give me strength. Will remind me that what I’m doing is the right thing. I need to go. I need to really learn how to live my life on my own, not this childish running-away shit and living out of my car like I did last time. I’m older now. Smarter. Wiser.
I need to fly and be free.

I had a hard time liking Colin. He’s a very commanding person, and he know what he wants and likes, which is mostly Jen, but he’s terrified of ruining their friendship. Actually, both of them are, but Colin even more so, because he relies on Jen emotionally, as Jen relies on him physically (materialistic-wise). She’s the only thing keeping him sane after his best friend’s death. But it was like he wanted to keep a leash on Jen, which was exactly how she felt, and the reason she wanted to leave. He doesn’t want to have a relationship with her, and yet he doesn’t want to let her go. His indecision really didn’t endear him to me, but I will admit that I really liked that he had been falling for Jen for years, and not just when he saw her again recently. Usually the guy in this trope will start falling for the girl when he sees her again after a few years, but Colin has loved Jen for ages.

Fuck it all, I want to kiss her. Forget the past, forget the present, forget the scary-as-hell future–I just want to lean over the center console and press my lips to hers. Steal her breath, steal her thoughts, steal her heart.
Like she’s done to me.

But then of-freaking-course they’d do the whole friends-with-benefits thing, which I ended up not really liking. Because… there might have been way too much sex. It’s not that I don’t like reading sex in books, but for some reason, I just didn’t feel anything for the two of them. I couldn’t feel the emotion and connection and intensity between them. It was the whole sexual relationship that didn’t work for me. It was like they took a step backward, or at least not a step forward at all, because even though Jen and Colin still have feelings for each other, they’re still not letting each other know. Frustrating!

But still, it was mainly their sexual relationship that I didn’t like. Everything else was pretty good. There was the right amount of angst, which Monica Murphy didn’t overdo, and Colin and Jen are very sweet with each other. Colin grew on me later on, with his protectiveness and sweet words. I loved seeing some of Fable and Drew, and really enjoyed the story once Jen and Colin stopped holding back from each other. Three Broken Promises isn’t a favorite in this series, but I was glad that we finally got Jen and Colin’s story.

I love reading about Drew and Fable! I swear, I won’t ever get tired of their story. They’re such real, relatable characters, and Monica Murphy manages to make me care for them so much and root for them to get their happily ever after. I think I might have even liked reading about them even more this second time around. In Second Chance Boyfriend, Drew and Fable finally get the chance to be a real-life couple, but of course, not without a few bumps along the way.

But the beginning of the book is filled with angst! Which I love. Drew left Fable, it’s been two months since they’ve seen each other, and Fable is hurt and pissed. Drew has been seeing a therapist to deal with his past, and he’s feeling empty without Fable, and I was going, Drew, just man up and go to her! You two belong together! But nope, he doesn’t go see Fable, because he truly believes he’s not worthy of her. Drew makes my heart melt, really.

Fable is getting back on her feet without Drew, and she’s even found a new job, a better one at a classier restaurant with a higher pay. But who does she see when she starts working? None other than Drew Callahan. And oh my gosh, the emotions. My heart was hurting so bad for Drew and Fable, because they’re perfect together, but they’re still not together.

“Typical. I feel like a doll. Like a stupid, pretty doll no one cares about, forgotten on a shelf. Every once in a while, you or whoever else wants to take me down from the shelf and play with me for a bit. Just enough to get my hopes up and make me believe someone really cares about me. Then I’m forgotten again. Like I don’t even exist.” She tosses her head back and gazes up at the dark sky. “My mom was pretty dead on when she named me Fable, wasn’t she? I don’t feel real to anyone.”
“You’re real to me,” I whisper. So damn real, it hurts not to touch her.
I want her so bad it’s killing me.

But Drew and Fable slowly work their way through their problems, and they slowly make their way towards each other. They’re both flawed people, but together, they can do anything. They can overcome their pasts, shame, and secrets, support each other, and love each other. In between dealing with Fable’s deadbeat mother and Drew’s nasty bitch of a step-mother, and caring for Owen, Fable’s younger brother, Drew and Fable form a beautiful relationship full of love, sweetness, and passion.

“I’ve always run in the past. But you, Fable. You make me want to stay.”

Did you know Drew writes poems about Fable? Yeah, you can hear me sighing right about now.

The best part about Drew and Fable is that they’re just so real. Sure, they have messed up problems (Drew especially–like holy shit crazy problems), but the way they deal with them is honest and real. Their thoughts and Monica Murphy’s writing make these two characters come right off the pages and make me melt for their romance. And thank goodness it’s not over! Drew and Fable have more to come, and then even OWEN gets his own book!!

If you’re a fan of romance, you should definitely check out Monica Murphy’s Drew + Fable series. You’ll laugh, tear up, and your heart will feel so much for the characters. I love Drew and Fable, and I highly recommend giving them a try!

Our relationship is not perfect. Drew Callahan isn’t perfect either.
But I wouldn’t have him any other way.
