It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s theme is …
Top Ten Books That You Wish Were Taught In Schools
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
- The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
- Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
- The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta
- The Divergent series by Veronica Roth
- Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
- Looking for Alaska by John Green
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (I’m actually not sure if this is taught in schools or not, but since it wasn’t taught at my school, I’m adding it!)
Most of these books I fell absolutely in love with, but even if I didn’t love them, these books would still make it into my list. Because these 10 books really changed my outlook in life. They truly spoke to my heart, and they’ll always have a special significance to me. And it would be incredible if they were taught in schools, so other students could also fall in love with them.
What about you? What books do you wish were taught in schools?
Thirteen Reasons Why and The Fault in Our Stars made my list too! I don’t know why I didn’t think to put Divergent/Insurgent on there 😦
Great list!

I know right? Divergent & Insurgent would be perfect!
AH! Jellicoe Road-great pick. I also agree with Divergent. I am not a huge John Green fan, but he really speaks to teens so it would be nice to see his books taught. I prefer everything/anything by A.S. King. I love giving her books to fans of John Green. Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE Melina Marchetta! She’s one of my favorite authors of all time. I’ve never heard of A.S. King, but maybe I’ll check out her books 🙂
I actually did read Thirteen Reasons Why for school in ninth grade. It was a great pick. I wish we would read The Fault in Our Stars too!
