Four days left.
Private beach (…and boat).
Not so invisible girl.
And maybe less of a jerk-faced bully than originally thought.
What’s the worst (or the best) that could happen?

Kaitlyn is finding life outside of the science cabinet of obscurity to be quite illuminating …and so are her pants.
When things heat up between Kaitlyn Parker and Martin—previously known as the jerk-faced bully—Sandeke, she places her trust in the one person she never thought capable of earning it, let alone keeping it safe. Fortunately or unfortunately for Kaitlyn, where she gives her trust she can’t help but also give her heart.

But how will the world beyond the sanctuary of their newfound connection react to their relationship? Soon senators, chinless billionaires, and elements beyond Martin and Kaitlyn’s control want to weigh in on the young couple’s future.

Navigating the chaotic inferno of new love might be more than Kaitlyn bargained for, and much, much more than her trust—or her heart—can handle.

WOW. Wowowow!!!! I freaking loooove Kaitlyn and Martin! Penny Reid blew me away AGAIN with this second installment of the Elements of Chemistry series. Heat was so deliciously hot and sexy… It’s title is very apt for the stuff that goes on between Kaitlyn and Martin in this book. I was a little disappointed how there wasn’t as much heat as I wanted in the first book… but I should’ve known I spoke too soon, because ALL that sexiness goes down in Heat. And while I loved the hot and heavy stuff, what shines in this novel is the incredible character development and relationship growth for Kaitlyn and Martin. Penny Reid is a fantastic writer who’s able to capture the wonder and passion of true love, as well as its hardships and downfalls.

“Maybe you’re right, maybe I don’t know how to treat people. But I meant it when I said that I… fucking hell, I want you. I like you. I’m all in. I’m not a liar and I’m doing my best here. You need to meet me part way.”

I loved getting to know more about Kaitlyn and Martin and getting to see how their relationship expanded and developed. These two are meant to be together, and they’re trying to find a way to make their relationship work and survive once they’re back in the real world. The chemistry amps up in Heat, but so do the frustrations. Kaitlyn and Martin are both highly intelligent people, but they’re not perfect. Despite their flaws, I still loved these two characters. I’m a bit addicted to them and their story. They have so many beautiful, tender, sweet moments that it’s hard not to fall in love with them.

“I don’t think you understand how badly I want you.”

I was utterly swept away by this book. Falling in love is a completely new concept for Kaitlyn and Martin and being in love changes how they view themselves and each other. Kaitlyn has always been a cautious person, guarding her heart, but with Martin, she’s able to open up and trust another person with her heart. Martin is completely head-over-heels in love with Kaitlyn and willing to do almost anything for her, when in the past he was very much a selfish person. Their romance is one that is unique, heartfelt, honest, and real.

“Why do people care about each other? What is attraction? I can’t give you a list of reasons why I react to you like I do. This isn’t an equation to balance. You’re the one I’m always thinking about. It’s you. It just is.”

Both Kaitlyn and Martin were a little frustrating in this book, so that’s why I can’t give a full 5-heart rating. Still, if you loved Attraction, you are going to LOVE Heat. Penny Reid just continues to amaze me with the incredible amount care she puts in the depth and growth in her characters. This book – this series – is well-written, witty, and so much fun to read.

Penny ReidSEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

Ethan Frost, the irresistible leading man from the New York Times bestsellers Ruined and Addicted, returns once again in Exposed—a novel that’s perfect for fans of J. Kenner and Sylvia Day.

Will Ethan Frost go too far for the woman he loves?

The moment Chloe Girard walked into my life, she exposed secrets and emotions I always thought were best kept buried.

She wants to move on, to ignore the past. But I can’t do that. Not when she still suffers. And not when the man who hurt her remains unscathed. So when I discover the perfect opportunity to make him pay for what he did to Chloe, I can’t walk away, no matter the consequences.

But there’s a fine line between justice and obsession. As I turn up old crimes and new lies, I know that I’m playing with fire—and risking the very foundations of our relationship.

My love for Chloe is absolute. I just hope it’s enough to save us both.

Now here’s an excerpt from Exposed! ❤

excerpt

After several long minutes, my heartbeat finally returns to normal. I pull out slowly, rolling Chloe over so that she’s cuddled into my chest and I can feel her breath against my neck, her heart beating against my own.

“I love you,” she says, her lips moving drowsily against my sweat-slicked skin.

“I love you, too.”

It’s a vow on my part as much as it is a declaration. Because loving her has never been the problem. I’ve loved her almost from the beginning—I started falling the minute she refused to drink the blueberry smoothie I made her and by the time she’d returned the Vitamix I’d bought her for the second time, I was all in.

Yes, loving her is easy. But keeping her—that’s something else entirely. I’ve already fucked things up with her, twice. I lied to her, tried to break up with her, hurt her over and over again when all I’ve really wanted to do is protect her.

I don’t know how one man can fuck up as badly—and as many times—as I have. And yet, by some miracle, she’s still here. In my arms. In my bed. Though, technically, we’re in her bed at the moment.

That’s something else I intend to change as soon as possible. Not that I have anything against Chloe’s room—or her roommate. But I need her with me, in my space. I need her in my house, her stuff cluttering up my dresser, her shoes tripping me on the way to the bathroom, her sexy-sweet scent hanging in the corners of every room I enter.

I need her things mingled with mine, need her life mingled with mine.

Because no matter how much I’ve fucked up, no matter how many mistakes I’ve made, I can’t let her go. I won’t let her go. Not now. Not ever. We’re tied together, our lives twisted and tangled together long before we had a clue what we would mean to each other. I wouldn’t have chosen our past, how we started out. But it exists. It’s real, and it’s something we’re both going to have to live with—for better or worse.

That’s the nightmare. That one day she won’t be able to live with what Brandon did to her. With the part I played in keeping him safe because I didn’t know better. Because I was blind.

But that’s a future I hope will never happen—a future I’m determined to never let happen. Right now, in the present, she’s still here. Still in my arms. Still willing to give me—to give us—a chance to get this right.

It’s more than I deserve, but I’m taking it.

I stroke her back, murmur nonsense words in her ear as Chloe snuggles close to me. Her breathing evens out and she’s asleep again within minutes. She’s exhausted, the toll of the last few weeks—the last few months—impossible to ignore. For both of us.

I close my eyes, try to follow, but my mind is too crowded to allow any kind of sleep to creep in. Chloe’s words from earlier chase themselves around inside my head—and there’s a part of me that knows she’s right. That knows I’ll be messing with all kinds of old wounds if I keep pursuing this. Opening them up, making them bleed. Making her bleed.

Hurting her any more than she’s already been hurt is the last thing I want to do.

But as I lay here staring at the ceiling, I can’t stop thinking about my brother. About the fact that he hurt her when she was young and defenseless. About the way he continues to hurt her even now.

I flash back to the way he looked at her in my driveway that day when the whole world came crashing down around our ears for the first time. So smug, so satisfied, so convinced of his own invincibility. The nondisclosure agreement—agreements, I remind myself, thinking back to the call I just took—make him untouchable and he knows it. More, he revels in it.

I’m not okay with that.

I’m not okay with any of it. Not what he did to Chloe and those other women. Not how he got away with all of it. And most definitely, not how he’s planning to run for Congress and beyond, building a life for himself making laws that he feels absolutely no compunction to follow.

None of that is okay.

Chloe might be strong enough to live with the past—and a future where Brandon never pays for his crimes. But I’m not. And I never will be.

The girl who’s had everyone meets the boy who has no one.

For Bella, the sweet-talking, free-loving, hip-checking student manager of the Harkness men’s hockey team, sex is a second language. She’s used to being fluent where others stutter, and the things people say behind her back don’t (often) bother her. So she can’t understand why her smoking hot downstairs neighbor has so much trouble staying friends after their spontaneous night together. She knows better than to worry about it, but there’s something in those espresso eyes that makes her second guess herself.

Rafe is appalled with himself for losing his virginity in a drunken hookup. His strict Catholic upbringing always emphasized loving thy neighbor—but not with a bottle of wine and a box of condoms. The result is an Ivy League bout of awkwardness. But when Bella is leveled by a little bad luck and a downright sinister fraternity stunt, it’s Rafe who is there to pick up the pieces.

Bella doesn’t want Rafe’s help, and she’s through with men. Too bad the undeniable spark that crackles between the two of them just can’t be extinguished.

Now here’s an excerpt from The Shameless Hour! ❤

excerpt

“Your job tonight was to make my life less embarrassing. Not more.”

“I am. Because we’re going to be the best looking dancers on this floor, and everyone in this mausoleum is going to wonder how I got so lucky as to be here with you. Now listen to this rhythm, okay? Just step to the beat. And let your hips absorb the motion.” I began to step in place, moving to the music. The merengue is a Dominican dance and every kid in my neighborhood can merengue before his fifth birthday. It’s just not that complicated.

With nervous eyes, Bella began to move.

“Use the hips,” I prompted, tapping a finger to the silky fabric of her dress. As I watched, she loosened up a tiny fraction. I leaned in to whisper in her ear. “You look amazing in this dress. Now move those hips a little more and you’re there.”

Biting her lip, Bella moved with me.

“See? Nothing to it. Now here’s the final touch — step forward towards me, then back again.” I guided her close to my body. “See? Now you like me…” I let her fall back. “Now you don’t. Just like in real life.”

And, just like that, we had a proper merengue going on. “There. I knew you could move.”

Bella pouted. “We’ve seen each other’s moves, Rafe.”

She lifted her eyes, and the heat in them went straight to my dick. Jesucristo. That was the trouble with getting too close to Bella. I was always going to be susceptible to her. Anything she did to remind me of that night was always going to knock me right over.

This isn’t just a two-year long one-night stand. It’s my life.
This is my life. Our life. It isn’t just some careless affair.

I’ve made the worst decisions a woman could, but I’ll earn my second chance.
She can try keeping all the guilt for herself, but I’m just as much to blame.

Loving Casey wasn’t my biggest mistake. Fighting it for so long was.
I’ll show her how fearless our love makes me. I’ll protect her torn heart.

He still has magic in his eyes. He’s the man who makes me happy.
Her voice still brings me to my knees. She says my name like it’s sacred.

I live for the day when I’m his. To take care of him. To love him the way he deserves.
I can’t wait to be all she needs. I can give her a happy life, security and so much love.

Sometimes two ships never meet in the night, but ours did.
Sometimes the water is rough. It beats you all to hell until you have no choice but get stronger.

Our love story reads more like a tragedy, but to me it’s clean and pure.
Let them point their fingers. Without a love like ours, they haven’t really lived. I pity them.

I’m a cheating wife and a villain. I am his honeybee.
I’m a snake in the grass and I sleep best when I’m lying next to his wife.

I want to be his everything.
I’m nothing without her anyway.

This isn’t even close to over.
It’ll never be over.

Now here’s an excerpt from Sail! ❤

excerpt

The room was dimly lit with the few lights we’d left on. It was late, and even though I was tired from travel and just life in general, I craved the feel of him.

Our suite was warm, void of chill or worry. In the bedroom, we didn’t bother with a light, knowing where everything was by memory.

He guided me to bed. He let my hair down and brushed it off my shoulders, and then he held me close and pressed his lips to mine. Casey laid us down so softly I barely knew we were moving until I felt the fluffy pillow under my head.

I deepened our kiss and moaned when his body pressed against mine.

“We’re not going to have sex tonight, Blake,” he said breathlessly around my lips. Why? I wanted him so badly. Just like that. Slow and easy.

I tried to evict thoughts of uncertainty from my mind, but they snuck in with his words. His behavior was contradictory. He’d shown me nothing but affection and care since we saw each other in the airport.

Why wouldn’t he make love to me?

Old demons felt the need to speak up.

What if he doesn’t want you after the chase? What if he only likes the thrill?

I felt my body begin to tense for the first time since we’d arrived. The hands that had been wandering across his back stilled. The leg I had started to wrap around his waist slowly began falling to the side.

“Hey, where are you going,” he said, as he kissed my neck and ran a hand through my hair to the nape of my neck.

“I don’t understand,” I contested. “I want you.” He shifted his weight and I felt how hard he was against my inner thigh. He was definitely turned on. So what was his deal? “Don’t you want me, too?”

“Mmmm,” he breathed near my ear. “God, I want you.” His big right hand hitched my leg back around his hip and he palmed my ass, bringing my dress up to my waist in the process and exposing my pale pink underwear. “I’ve wanted you day and night for so long now. I don’t know how to not want you.” He spoke between kisses and rubbed his nose along my clavicle. Then he bit me gently at the crook of my neck. “But there’ve been too many times I’ve let that need for you cloud my focus.”

“But I—”

“No, Blake. Not tonight. Tonight, I’m going to make you come and then I’m going to sleep next to you. I’m going to fall asleep with you in my arms. All those nights I missed out on holding you and feeling you next to me. I stole them from both of us being scared and stubborn.

I have to be better this time. I see all that you’re doing and I’m so damn proud of you, honeybee,” he said calmly. “But I want more than just physical things from you. It isn’t that I don’t want you. Fuck, do I want you. But I need all of you. Not just this.” He moved against my center and I knew I had to change his mind. After hearing those sweet words, I had to have him and I wasn’t going to fight fair.

“Please, Casey. Fuck me.”

He growled and pressed his forehead to my chest. “You’re evil.” He laughed. I wished he sounded defeated, but mostly he sounded amused. “You’re not making it easy for me to be noble.”

“Don’t be noble then,” I said as I wound my arms around him and pulled him closer to me.

“If you knew what I was thinking about doing to you, you’d know I wasn’t.” He rolled partially over toward the center of the bed and ran his hand under my dress and up to my breast.

“Then tell me,” I shamelessly suggested.

The tips of his fingers roamed down my stomach and my pulse sped up. His fingers slid under the sheer fabric of my underwear and my breaths came in spurts as I mentally begged him to keep going. I was so wound up.

“Don’t worry. I told you I’d take care of you.”

Oh my gosh… I freaking. LOVED. This. Book. I’ve never read anything by Penny Reid before, but now… I think I’m going to go gorge myself on all of her books! I loved the writing in this one… and don’t even get me started on the humor – God, I just loved everything about Attraction! It’s a witty, hilarious book with endearing characters I grew to love so much. As soon as I started reading this, I couldn’t put it down – and I couldn’t stop laughing either! I simply adored Attraction. It’s now one of my TOP reads of the year so far!

Kaitlyn Parker and Martin Sandeke are chemistry lab partners. Kaitlyn’s an adorable nerd while Martin is their university’s rowing captain – as well as the school’s hottest, richest, most eligible bachelor. They couldn’t be more different… but it turns out they’re absolutely PERFECT together. That is, when they actually get together. Kaitlyn doesn’t think Martin has even noticed her at all over the course of the school year, but when circumstances put them together outside of the chem lab, it turns out they have a wicked chemistry (hehe) together. And Martin’s been wanting Kaitlyn for a while.

“Haven’t you ever wondered why I come on Fridays?” His fingers curled around my neck and his thumb traced circles along the line of my collarbone. He encouraged my head to tip backward.
“So that we can get a jump start on the weekly assignment?”
He shook his head. “You.”

Kaitlyn is rightfully worried about this playboy and his intentions. But she can’t ignore how her body reacts to him, and she agrees to spend a week with him (along with her best friend and Martin’s rowing teammates) on a private beach to see if what they have together is worth pursuing.

“There is nothing temporary about how I want you.”

My favorite thing about Attraction is how incredible a heroine Kaitlyn is. Penny Reid wrote her in such a dorky, quirky, hilarious, relatable way that I couldn’t help but love her! She felt real and genuine, and I adored her. She’s a very intellectual person, but being with Martin brings out a sensual side of her she never knew existed. I loved the way she talked and thought, even when she was being over-the-top. Kaitlyn was just so much FUN to read! Penny Reid did a fantastic job in creating such a wonderful character like her!

Oh, Martin. How I love thee. At first, not much is known about Martin other than his altheticism, his wealth, and his playboy ways, buuuut I fell in love with him the second he appeared in this book. He’s sexy, domineering, and gives off such a powerful presence, but he’s also so tender and sweet with Kaitlyn. The way he cares for and wants Kaitlyn is unlike anything he’s ever felt, and this comes across so clearly in his actions and words. I mean, he’s still got to prove to Kaitlyn that he’s in this for the long run, but the ways he goes about proving it will make your heart melt and swoon. And did I mention how SEXY Martin is!? The chemistry and tension in this book is off the charts. They way Martin shows Kaitlyn how much he wants her is just too hot for words. Just… hot. damn.

I loved this book. I loved getting to know Kaitlyn and Martin, and I loved reading how they get to know each other. They are so perfect for each other, and it’s so easy to see that they belong together. I’ve already reread this book countless times, that’s how much I loved Attraction. I wish I had all of the Elements of Chemistry books to read ASAP – I honestly can’t get enough of these two fantastic characters! And I wish I read Penny Reid sooner! I’ll definitely be reading more of her other books, because her writing is just fantastic.
