New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That’s what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn’t always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It’s obliterated.

Dallas doesn’t know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn’t know that Dallas is his new coach’s daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

review

All Lined Up is too much cuteness! It’s such a sweet, quick, fun read, and I zipped through it in one sitting. I was already a fan of Cora Carmack’s after reading the Losing It series, and All Lined Up impressed me even more! Cora Carmack is spot-on as a new adult writer–I loved the way she portrayed her characters and I fell in love with her writing.

It was so easy to immerse myself into the world of All Lined Up, and into Rusk University. Football is, of course, one of the main aspects of the story, and even though i know next to nothing about football, the author was able to explain just how much football means to people without making me feel disconnected. Dallas is the daughter of one of the new coaches at Rusk University, and she’s a bit of a goody two-shoes. Her main passion has always been dancing, but she lets her father control her life and center it around football. Dallas is incredibly likable and relatable–she’s a girl who’s been stuck under her parent’s thumb for too long and doesn’t know the way out.

And I find myself thinking that church is like my kid’s sermon… It parallels my life as a whole. I show up, but I’m not in it. I go through the motions, but my mind wanders elsewhere. I dress and behave in the ways I know won’t get me in trouble. I get by. I bide my time waiting for the moment when it all ends.
But life isn’t church. It isn’t one hour during one day in the week. It’s everything, and I’m wasting it.

Carson is a transfer student trying to succeed through football, because it’s pretty much the only thing he can do. He needs to get a good spot on the football team and get a scholarship–otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to afford college. Carson is incredibly dedicated and determined, both of which are qualities that made me fall for him. He’s a good guy through and through, and even though he tries to make football his number one priority, the moment Dallas walks into his life, he can’t get her out of his mind–and he doesn’t want to.

The two of them don’t realize their relationship with one another–that Dallas is Carson’s coach’s daughter–so when they meet, sparks fly, and they allow a small moment of freedom to express their wants and desires for one another. They have this undeniable connection with one another that they’ve never experienced before, and it’s so sweet to see the two of them together.

But once the ball drops and they find out who they are, they try to become friends, but they can never get rid of their attraction to one another. Carson and Dallas spend more and more time together, and it’s easy to see how they fall for each other. I loved their relationship and how it grew slowly. They both knew there were risks to being together, so they were mature and cautious about it. But at then end of the day, they can’t deny the chemistry between them, and I wanted them to get together so badly! Carson and Dallas complement each other so well and make the perfect couple.

I loved the fact that even as their relationship developed, Dallas and Carson developed as characters as well. Individually, they have much more to learn and to grow to be the person they are most comfortable with.

All in all, All Lined Up shouldn’t be missed. It’s the perfect new adult novel with great writing, characters who have great emotional depth, and a story that keeps you hooked.

excerpt

“Ten bucks says the only person not packing is Mils grandma by marriage.” Mo said once we’d all finished eating our dinner, which has basically been a painful process of chewing, swallowing, drinking unhealthy amounts of wine and trying to stare at my plate to keep from looking at Trace, while my wife sat next to me. Hell had officially risen to earth and I was smack dab in the middle of it trying my damndest to remember how to swallow without choking — without dying a little bit inside each time I saw him touch her face. And trying not to feel like an ass when Mil caught me staring — again. I’d resolved about an hour ago to actually be the man she needed me to be and I was already failing. Horribly. The second time I looked,Mo kicked me under the table but accidentally hit Tex instead causing everyone to look up, which was probably why Mo said what she did.

We all turned heads to look at the hundred year old woman. She was currently on her fourth glass of wine and looked to be about two seconds away from falling into her chicken cacciatore.

“Nope.” Nixon shook his head. “It’s always the ones you don’t expect. My money’s on Grandma.”

“I’ll take that bet.” Tex rose. “Seems like someone needs to fall on their own knife and all that. This has to be the most depressing wedding I’ve ever gone to and that includes the fake one Mo made for her kittens when she was four.”

“They lived happily ever after.” Mo tilted her head into the air and narrowed her eyes.

Tex leaned down and tapped Mo on the nose. “Yes if happily means they lived for five damn minutes before marching directly into oncoming traffic.”

“I think the wedding just hit its low point.” Mil muttered. “Save us, Tex. I beg you. Find the gun and I’ll give you a prize.”

“Prize?” Tex’s eyes lit up. “As in—”

“As in her new husband won’t punch you in the face. You’re welcome. Yay, prizes.” I did a fake punch into the air. “Now go create some excitement before Nixon starts picking people off with his semi-automatic.”

Nixon rolled his eyes. “Right, like I’d even bring—”

“It’s in the SUV.” Trace answered sounding bored. “Saw it when I took out my dress.”

“Damn.” He looked away.

Just then a very drunk looking cousin Vinnie got up and took the microphone from the band. “Look here! I have a toast to the bride and groom!” The feedback from the microphone mixed with his inability to stand up straight caused him to drop the stand and then fall flat on his ass.

“For the love of God save us all.” I pushed Tex towards Grandma.

We all sat at the table, the very depressing bridal party table, and watched as Tex slowly made his way towards the elderly woman.

“This won’t end well.” Trace said under her breath. “The man has the subtleness of a bomb.”

“Exactly.” Mo grinned from ear to ear.“I did say we needed entertainment, didn’t I?”

“Mo… ” Nixon warned.

“He cheated on me Nixon. Let me have my fun.” She said smoothly.

“He what?” Nixon roared jumping to his feet, curious stares pinned in our direction as Mo grabbed his hand and pulled him back to his seat.

“I’ve got this. You aren’t the only one who knows how to use their powers for evil, brother. Revenge is a bitch, isn’t that what they say, Trace?”

She looked guiltily down at her hands.Yeah, double meanings I could really get without. Hopefully Mo wasn’t going to get Tex shot at our wedding, not that I’d be against it. This was the first I heard of him cheating, granted, Mo hadn’t really been all that for sharing recently. She was as secretive as ever. Something told me it was for a reason, but I’d been too wrapped up in my own drama to even ask. How bad did I suck as a half brother? Bad, real bad. On a scale of one to ten in the suckiness department I’d be around an eleven.

Tex finally reached her chair and sat down next to her, his smile was wide, I couldn’t tell what he was saying but his hands were all over the place, and then he set one hand on Grandma.

“Oh this isn’t going to end well.” Mo chuckled. “She hates being touched.”

“It is Tex.” I pointed out. “She could do a lot worse.”

“Doubtful.” Mo snorted crossing her arms.

Holy shit what the hell? Had I been living under a rock for the past few months? What went down? And how didn’t I know about it.

I winced when Tex moved his other hand next to Grandma’s leg. Probably wouldn’t be a good time to tell him that she’d seen her fair share of murder. I almost closed my eyes when she looked down at his hand.

“Aw shit.” Nixon shook his head. “You had to challenge him, Mo.”

Mo’s face twisted into a murderous smile as she pointed and exclaimed. “Game. Set. Match.”

Grandma had Tex by the balls.

“Ouch!” This from Mil.

Oh my gooooosh!!! I’m so freaking IN LOVE with this book!! Christina Lauren have outdone themselves! I can’t even begin to describe all of my feelings, my love for this book! When I got my arc, I literally jumped for joy and squealed. And I devoured Sweet Filthy Boy in pretty much one sitting. Sigh. I wish this book never ended. I could read about Mia and Ansel and France forever.

Christina Lauren fans, I’m delighted to say that you absolutely will not be disappointed with Sweet Filthy Boy! When I finished SFB (with a HUGE smile on my face), I was thinking, “Oh my God, I think I love this book as much as I love the Beautiful Bastard series.” I fell in loooove with the characters (oh, Ansel), the writing (France!!), and everything else about this book. To be quite honest, Sweet Filthy Boy was perfection.

So we have our lovely heroine Mia, who, along with two best friends, goes to Vegas after graduating college. And at Vegas, Mia meets Ansel, who is sexy, alluring, and French (let me just say I fell in love with French boys because of Ansel. I WANT MY OWN FRENCH BOY PLEASE). Buuut, after a night of hard partying and drinking together, Mia wakes up and can’t remember the night before. Enter the shocking little plot twist that I didn’t see coming at all! If you read the book, Mia’s situation may seem a bit similar to a certain other rocker book I shall not mention, but SFB as a whole is nothing like it. SFB was unique, refreshing, and so much fun to read. It’s become one of my favorite books of the year!

What we know is dimly lit bars, playful banter, the clean, crisp sheets of hotel rooms. What we know is the unrequited possibility, the temptation of the idea. The make-believe. The adventure.
But when you choose the adventure, it becomes real life.

Ansel and Mia have an undeniable attraction to one another. Ansel wants Mia to give them a chance at forming a relationship, but Mia isn’t sure that the two of them can actually work. They had a one night stand at Vegas, ended up in a crazy situation, and now Ansel wants Mia to go back to France with him? Umm… I’d have been a little skeptical too (although now that I’ve read the book and fallen in love with Ansel, I would’ve DONE ABSOLUTELY WHATEVER ANSEL WANTED ME TO DO). Still, when Mia looks at the prospect of her future after graduation, she’s not happy about any of it. So… she decides to take a chance, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and go to France with Ansel.

So Mia will spend the summer in France with Ansel, and they deal with their relationship day by day. They have a bumpy start at the beginning of their relationship though. Ansel has to work a lot, and doesn’t have much time to spare to spend with Mia, and Mia is in a foreign country left to fend for herself. There’s a definite strain in their relationship, especially since they started off rocky anyway, but the two of them are determined to make their relationship work. And it helps that Ansel is just so freaking sweet to Mia…

“I just want to make love to you all day,” he says against my mouth and rolls on top of me. “I don’t want to think about work or friends or even eating. I want to exist on you alone.”

Ansel is just… perfectly imperfect. He’s got so many sides to his personality, and it was incredibly easy to fall in love with him. He’s sweet, charming, funny, sexy, and he whispers sweet nothings–in French! He’s an impulsive kind of guy (which is good and bad), he’s definitely a lover and not a fighter, and I was swooning so much for Ansel throughout the book. You just can’t not smile because of him.

“I love that you’re trying to learn my city. And God help the poor boys who see you walk by in that little sundress I saw hanging in the bathroom. You’ll have admirers following you home and I’ll be forced to chase them off.”

Do you SEE how freaking cute and sweet Ansel is??

And as the two of them spend their summer in France together, they slowly… fall for each other. It’s slow and sweet and heartwarming and inevitable. They never really thought that they’d fall for each other, but they do, and this creates complications, because what happens after the summer is over? Mia has to go back to America, and Ansel has to stay in France. My heart was aching for the two of them, because I wanted them to work so bad. Mia and Ansel are perfect together, and have become one of my all-time favorite couples.

“I’m lost in you.”
I gasp, nodding frantically. “Me, too.”…
“What you feel, Cerise? I feel it, too. Fuck, Mia, I feel everything for you.”

Mia and Ansel’s beautiful romance was an absolute joy to read. I was swept away by their whirlwind romance, by the depth of the characters, and by the writing. There’s the perfect amount of sexy to balance out the sweet, and I loved how much Sweet Filthy Boy wrung so many emotions out of me. I’d be smiling and giggling one moment, and hurting for Mia and Ansel the next.

I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. I can’t say enough good things about it–everyone needs to experience Ansel and Mia and France. You will fall in looooove like I did.

about the author

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAI started writing contemporary romance two years ago. Before that, I didn’t think I could write a sex scene. Turns out I can!

My lucky number is 13 because I was born on the 13th and live near a haunted castle by the ocean. My number one past-time is watching hot surfers get changed into (and out of) their wetsuits.

My husband doesn’t read my books. My mother does.

Writing is my love, my hobby, my total addiction. All my characters are important to me and whisper their stories, even when I’ve finished writing their books. That’s why you’ll often find bonus chapters/out-takes from various books, because those voices just won’t be quiet.

Deleted Scene

“You were attacked outside your place last night, Liv. Did you think I’d leave you here alone?” Shit. She probably did. Liv had an amazing ability to assume the worst in me and then run four hours away.

She laid back down on the bed, slowly this time, and closed her eyes. “My head freaking kills.”

I stood up, walked the short distance to an area that couldn’t exactly be called a kitchen because it only had two feet of counter space above the dishwasher and hunted through her three cupboards.

I bit back a laugh when I saw her food cupboard. All the food and boxes were arranged in sizes, largest to smallest, and her cans were alphabetized. Only Liv could be OCD about her fucking food. Finding the pain meds and the coffee, I started a pot and then took Liv a bottle of water from the fridge and held out some medicine. When I reached the side of her bed, she opened her good eye, keeping a hand over the other.

“Meds,” I said, moving my hand in front of her. “Take them.”

She stared at my hand like it could bite her before she finally took them and the water, taking large swallows of the water.

“This is all your fault, you know.” She laid back down and closed her eyes again. My fingers clenched into tight fists at my side.

“How do you figure?”

She snorted. “Please. I’m back in this town for a few weeks and I’m attacked. How could it be anything but your fault? Or the clubs?” I watched her turn her head away from me and her body shivered slightly. It wasn’t from the cold. It was fear. I’d seen enough people terrified of me in my short life with the club to read the body signs when I saw them.

“Who did this to you?”

She shrugged a shoulder against her sheets.

“Liv,” I said more sternly. “Who did this to you?”

“I don’t know. But the man told me my boys had bit off more than they could chew and I had to tell them they were coming to collect. Or else he was coming back for me.”

Rage. It boiled inside of me from the depths of my gut and kept boiling until I thought it was going to bubble over. I placed my fists on the edge of her bed and leaned over her.

“Tell me,” I clipped harshly. I saw her flinch and tried to take a deep breath but I couldn’t. Who in the fuck would threaten Olivia? Anyone who knew shit knew she’d left the club and town years ago. She wouldn’t know dick about us. “Tell me exactly what he said to you.”

Swear to God, she rolled her eyes at me. I wanted to snap at her. And then I wanted to finish leaning down, close the space between us and kiss the ever loving shit out of her. Olivia had been my first girlfriend. My first kiss. My first time. I had promised her the world and then in one night, everything went to shit. She had run, I had taken my place where I needed to take it, and not a single fucking day had gone by where I wished I could go back and make her listen to me. Let me explain everything I was doing and why I was doing it.

“I just did, Daemon.”

My name rolled off her tongue sounding as sweet as it always did. I took a deep breath, exhaling slowly through my nose. It wasn’t to calm the anger still pulsing through my veins. It was to remind my dick to settle the fuck down. Liv in a bed in front of me, inches from me, and I couldn’t touch her. It was sweetness and torture at the same time.

I nodded and took a few steps back. “Pack a bag.”

Her mouth fell open. “What?”

“You heard me. Get up, pack a bag. You’re coming with me.”

Slowly, she sat up. I watched the sheet fall from her chest. She was in a t-shirt and shorts. I knew that because Doc had changed her when she was unconscious. I had wanted to bite his fingers off. But I still watched her chest rise and fall while she took long, slow breaths. She fisted the sheet in her lap for a beat before she threw it back and swung her legs to the floor.

“I’m not going anywhere with you.” She stomped to the kitchen. I watched her favor her left ankle so I closed the space between us, wrapped my hands around her biceps and picked her up.

“What the fuck?”

“Sit down,” I told her, depositing her onto a couch that looked like the threads were going to disintegrate at any possible second. I cringed thinking of the shit place Liv was living in. All because of her damn pride and fear. “Your ankle hurts, your head is a mess, and you shouldn’t be walking.” I put my hands on my hips as she glared at me. Bright brown eyes stared right back at me and I almost grinned. Sexy. Liv was hot in high school. She had always been cute but once she turned fifteen and started growing hips and a chest she was the hottest thing I’d ever seen. Five years hadn’t changed that one bit. But Liv angry? When she got pissed she was a wicked goddess. “Now, what do you want?”

“For you to leave and never speak to me again.”

“From the kitchen,” I bit out.

She sighed and fell back into the couch, giving in. “Coffee.”

Also when Liv was angry, she could be annoying as fuck. Stubborn to her bones. She was Bull Masters daughter after all. He hadn’t become President of the Nordic Lords Motorcycle Club by being a pushover. Clearly he had passed on his stubbornness.

I filled her a cup of coffee, black like she’d always taken it in the past, and brought it to her. When she took her first sip, I turned around and adjusted my dick so she didn’t see how turned on I was by watching her lips wrap around the edge of the hot pink ceramic mug.

Then, in order to keep distracting myself, I dug a duffel bag out of her small closet and began throwing in her clothes.

“What are you doing?”

“Packing you up.” I heard a huff of anger and grabbed my cell phone from my back pocket and dialed my best friend, Jaden. “Need my truck,” I said as soon as he answered, which was on the fourth ring.

“Good morning to you, too.”

“Don’t have time for shit, Jaden. I’m at Liv’s place and I’m packing her up and taking her to mine. I need my truck.”

Silence filled the other end of the line.

“Jaden?”

“I’m here. I think. Am I drunk or still sleeping?”

I laughed once, and then I caught sight of Liv’s black eye and felt my rage begin to boil all over again. My eyes narrowed and I watched her flinch. “I need my truck and I need it in ten. I’ll explain when you get here.”

“Shit.” He pulled the word out four times longer than it was.

“Yeah, it is. Be here in ten.” I shut the phone and slid it back into my pocket before I turned to Liv. She was still sitting in the same spot, holding her coffee cup with both hands.

“I’m not going to your place.” She blinked and I saw her flinch in pain from the small movement. I also noticed that she was sitting strung tight into the couch. Every muscle in her body looked coiled tight and stiff. Stubborn as hell.

“I know how to take care of myself.”

“You’re the daughter of the President of the MC and you were attacked last night.”

“I know who I am.” There was a fire in her when she bit the words out.

“Do you?” I clipped and watched her flinch at not only my tone, but what I implied. Five years ago, Liv had run. She had her reasons, but her reasons were shitty ones.

“You can go now.” Her words were just as tightly clipped as mine. I rolled my shoulders back, releasing tension building from the stubbornness she was showing me.

“You got a man?” I already knew the answer. What Liv didn’t know was that we’d had eyes on her as soon as she naively and innocently stepped back into town. If she had a man, I would have known. If she had a man worth a shit, she would have called him for help last night instead of Doc. “Right, then.” I clipped when she didn’t answer. “You don’t have someone to watch you and you’re gonna need that. I don’t know who said that shit and shoved you into a cement wall, but I’m guessing they were serious as hell about coming back for you. And your security in this building is complete shit. So until we figure out who did this to you and why, you’re coming to my place or the club. Which is it?”

The space between us was maybe five feet. The tense silence made it feel like fifty. She didn’t say anything so I turned around and kept packing.

“Your place,” she finally muttered. It was quiet and I could tell it wasn’t anything close to what she wanted. I also knew Liv wouldn’t step back into the club without a miraculous act of God occurring so the choice I’d given her really wasn’t any choice at all.
