★ The prologue of Rush Too Far by Abbi Glines is here! Rush Too Far releases May 2014.

They say that children have the purest hearts. That children don’t truly hate because they don’t fully understand the emotion. They forgive and forget easily.

They say a lot of bullshit like that because it helps them sleep at night. Such sayings make for good, heart-warming clichés to hang on the walls, to bring out a smile in people passing by.

I know differently. Children love like no other. They have the capacity to love more fiercely than anyone else. That much is true. That much I know. Because I lived it. By the age of ten I knew hate and I knew love. Both all-consuming. Both life-altering. And both completely blinding.

Looking back now I wish someone had been there to see how my mother had sown the seed of hate inside of me. Inside of my sister. If someone had been there to save us from the lies and bitterness she allowed to fester within us, then maybe things would have been different. For everyone involved.

I never would have acted so foolishly. It wouldn’t have been my fault that a girl was left alone to take care of her ailing mother. It wouldn’t have been my fault that the same girl stood at her mother’s graveside, believing that the last person on earth who loved her was dead. It wouldn’t have been my fault that a man destroyed himself after his life became a broken, hollow shell.

But no one saved me.

No one saved us.

We believed the lies. We held onto our hate, and I alone destroyed an innocent girl’s life.

They say you reap what you sow. That’s bullshit, too. Because I should be burning in hell for my sins. I shouldn’t be allowed to wake up every morning with this beautiful woman in my arms, who loves me unconditionally. I shouldn’t get to hold my son and know such a pure joy.

But I do.

Because, eventually, someone did save me. I didn’t deserve it. Hell, more than anyone it was my sister who needed saving. She hadn’t acted on her hate. She hadn’t manipulated the lives of our family members, not caring about the outcome. But her bitterness still controlled her while I had been delivered. By a girl…

No, she wasn’t just a girl. She was an angel. My angel. A beautiful, strong, fierce, loyal angel who had entered my life in a pick-up truck, carrying a gun.

★ It’s an excerpt from Burned (Dani O’Malley #2; Fever #7) by Karen Marie Moning!

The king stirred from his reverie and stared down at the unconscious female in his wings.

Half a million years since he’d last seen her. Held her. Touched her.

It was no illusion. She was here. She was real.

She felt as small and gossamer fragile as the new worlds he spun.

He inhaled. She smelled the same as she had on the day he’d met her, of sunshine on bare skin, moonlight on silver oceans and enormous, sky-no-limit dreams. He closed his eyes and opened them.

She was still there.

After an eternity of grief and regret, he held the only thing he’d ever wanted more than he wanted to be God.

A second chance.

He’d imagined this, dreamed it, hungered for it beyond reason.

They are replaceable, one and all, insisted the Fear Dorcha, his dark traveling companion through insanity. You will forget her.

But he never had.

Grief will pass, lisped the Crimson Hag, one of his more exquisitely terrible creations.

But it never did.

He, who had once been whole was halved without hope of ever being complete again. And when you’ve known that kind of love, to exist without it is to live a half-life where nothing else ever feels real.

He’d fabricated their reunion in countless illusions, slipping in and out of madness for millennia, talking to her as if she were beside him, answering. Drawing to his side one mortal woman after the next that possessed the body, the hair, a pale imitation of the passion, never seeing them, calling them by her name, pretending they were her until they died.

He’d lived lie after lie to escape the unbearable truth: She’d left him by choice, killed herself to escape him. He’d come to believe she’d never loved him at all, or worse—had stopped loving him because of the things he’d done.

Gazing down at her now, he found it easy to pardon Cruce for stealing her, forcing her to drink from the Cauldron and erasing all memory of their time together.

Somehow his soulmate was at long last the very thing he’d struggled to make her: Fae, immortal unless killed in one of a very small number of ways. (He intended to eradicate all of those ways immediately.) Funny how things turned should time enough pass. But the king knew the natural state of Universes was not to list toward entropy, rather wholeness. Universes were healthy. It was sentient beings with free will that were the true disasters.

So what if he’d suffered an eternity of hell without her? If someone had offered him this bargain a half a million years ago, said—you need only endure a half a million years without her to have her for all time—he would have taken it in a human heartbeat. What was a brief time of madness for eternity with her?

Fire to his ice. Frost to her flame.

He was whole again.

The Unseelie king bent his head and kissed her. Lightly. Reverently. He’d sliced open his soul and bled it out over memories of the woman he would never kiss again. Deep in his chest, thunder rolled.

Lashes fluttered. She opened her eyes. He drew back and stared down at her, unable to speak. Creator of worlds, God, Devil, whatever he was, words failed him now. His massive black wings shuddered with the depth of his feeling. He shifted and resettled them.

There was wonder in her gaze as she stared up at him: a moment of precious, pre-conscious dawn where all is dew and promise and anything at all might bloom.

Beginnings are fragile things.

Was it as he hoped? Was the power of true love greater than the power of the Cauldron of Forgetting? Did the body recall despite the damage done the mind? Memory, carved into gray matter, never obliterated. What would she say? What would her first words to him be?

Time ground to a halt and, as a human might hold his breath, the Unseelie king held his existence in silence, filling the frozen moment with tiny miracles: the blush of her skin, the curve of her lips, the arch of her brows.

Was that a flicker of confusion? Of duality preceding recognition? He knew her face intimately, had never forsaken a nuance, yet these were expressions he’d had no cause to learn.

After all she’d been through—eternities about which he knew nothing and might have contained any number of atrocities spent as they were at the Seelie Court with Cruce—but more recently kidnapped, interred in a tomb of ice and nearly killed by the power-hungry prince, he sought to reassure her:

“My love, you are safe. I have you now.” He paused, to lend emphasis to his next words, a pledge he would keep until the end of time, which he was fairly certain he was in some fashion or another. “And I will never let you go again.”

Envisioning their joyous future together as immortals, he waited for the first sound of her voice in half a million years…

She screamed.

Beck by Harper Sloan

DEE

I’ve always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real me. I’m content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn’t need a man.

But the truth is I’m just as broken as the rest of you. I’m terrified that all it will take is one person to make all my carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. So I guard my heart with everything I have. Determined to never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again.

All is perfect until HE walks into my life. No… he doesn’t just walk. He struts his good-looking, sex-oozing self right into my space and demands that I see HIM. Making me want what I know I can’t have.

So I did the only thing I know how to do.

I run.

But he just won’t let me go.

BECK

The second I see her, I know she will be mine. I see past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. I see HER. She doesn’t want me to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but I make it my mission to find out.

To make her mine.

She can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop me from coming after her.

She’s it for me and she knows it.

She’s just too scared to admit it.

★ Jamie McGuire (author of Beautiful Disaster) has a novella coming out soon! Here is the Goodreads link.

Rumor has it that I have a new novella coming out Dec. 10th. This is absolutely true! It has also been said that it is secret. This is also true! So to recap, I have a secret novella coming out soon! 😉 What do you think it will be about?

★ Abbi Glines has started writing Rush’s POV of Fallen Too Far!

I’m back home. Birmingham was fun. Tomorrow I start writing again… *ahem*… Rush may be about to tell his side of the story… *cough* … You didn’t hear that from me… *cough* what? I didn’t say anything. What are you talking about… *wink*

Here’s Abbi’s reading order:

Sea Breeze Series:
#1 Breathe (Jax and Sadie)- this was my very first book. It is YA and has a younger tone. It is the only book in this series that is YA.
#2 Because of Low (Marcus and Willow)- Marcus is the “other guy” in Breathe but he’s older. He doesn’t live at home and his roommate is a man whore. His roommate also think that when he’s finished screwing his way through the hot women in the world he is going to marry his best friend, Willow. Marcus however has a very different idea… THIS is a new adult book!
#3 While It Lasts (Cage and Eva)- well the man whore became a reader favorite in Because of Low. People loved him. So… he got a book. This one is much more intense and the sex is very explicit.
#4 Just For Now (Preston and Amanda HARDY)- Young girl falls in love with brother’s best friend. We’ve all heard this story… but what happens when brother’s best friend has a dark twisted secret? And he also happens to get trashed one night and take his best friend’s sister’s virginity and not remember? Yeah… another explicit one.
#5 Sometimes It Lasts (Cage and Eva #2)- why did they get a sequel? Because readers demanded more. This is the only Sea Breeze book to make the NYT list. The entire series made the list but as an individual book only While It Lasts hit the list. Besides… their story wasn’t over yet. He’s a reformed man whore… he’s gonna screw up.
#6 Misbehaving (Jason and Jess)- this book releases on Dec 17. I am in love with their story. That’s all I’m saying…Answers to questions about this series:
NO one else will be getting a sequel.
Dewayne will be getting a book
Krit will be getting a book
The final book in this series will be one with a novella from each couple. So yes you do get more of your favorite couple in that last book.Rosemary Beach Series:
#1 Fallen Too Far (Rush and Blaire)- if you haven’t read it… then I think you should
#2 Never Too Far (Rush and Blaire #2)- the first one ends on a cliff hanger but lucky you the second book is available.
#3 Twisted Perfection (Woods and Della)- Woods much like Cage in the Sea Breeze series became a reader favorite. I wasn’t expecting that. So he got his own story.
#4 Forever Too Far (Rush and Blaire #3)- this concludes their story… maybe.
#5 Simple Perfection (Woods and Della #2)- this one will break your heart. Hang in there with me though because Tripp’s book will mend it again.
#6 Take A Chance (Grant and Harlow)- It releases in February. I’ve known I would give Grant a book since Blaire pointed a gun at him in Fallen Too Far. He’s one I fell in love with and couldn’t wait to write. But when I started writing the story it was Harlow that stole my heart. She’s just so very relatable.Answers to questions about this series:
Yes I am writing Rush’s POV of Fallen Too Far
Yes Grant and Harlow get two books
Yes Tripp gets a bookThe Vincent Boys Series
#1 The Vincent Boys (Beau and Ashton.. and Sawyer) This is a love triangle. One that I will always love. Beau Vincent makes it hard for you not to love him. If you want an “older” read of their story then you need to read the “extended and uncut” version. The original is YA.
#2 The Vincent Brothers (Sawyer and Lana) Sawyer isn’t over Ashton and when her cousin comes to visit he decides to make Ashton jealous… that is so not what happens.
#3 My Vincent Boys (Beau, Ashton and Sawyer) Not sure on a release day for this yet. But this one starts from the moment Beau and Ashton get in a fight on the playground in preschool and follows these three until that summer Sawyer left on his family vacation that changed everything.Existence Trilogy
#1 Existence – This is a paranormal trilogy. Pagan (the heroine) is stalked by Death. It’s her time to go but there are things she doesn’t know about herself. Things that Death is trying to figure out. Things that you do not see coming…
#2 Predestined- This time we get both Pagan and Dank (Death’s) point of view. After the revelation in the last sentence of Existence you find out exactly why Death was fascinated with Pagan to begin with. Then he has to fight Hell if he wants to save her.
#3 Ceaseless- This one is a New adult read because Pagan has made it to college now. She also doesn’t remember a thing… at least not where Death is concerned.

Top Ten Character Names I Love

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean

1. CrossOne Good Earl Deserves a Lover (The Rules of Scoundrels #2) by Sarah MacLean

Pippa’s breath caught as the man emerged, tall and lanky and unshaven. He was in his shirtsleeves, cuffs rolled up, and her gaze flew to those long, lean forearms, where muscle curved and rippled over bone. Her mouth went dry. She’d never thought of the forearm as being particularly interesting, but then it was not every day that she saw such a fine specimen.

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

2. Warner – Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) by Tahereh Mafi (Psst, I love Warner’s first name too!)

He looks immaculate.
Flawless, especially as he stands here among the dirt and destruction, surrounded by the bleakest colors this landscape has to offer. He’s a vision of emerald and onyx, silhouetted in the sunlight in the most deceiving way. He could be glowing. That could be a halo around his head. This could be the world’s way of making an example out of irony. Because Warner is beautiful in ways even Adam isn’t.

Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover

3. Dean Holder – Losing Hope (Hopeless #2) by Colleen Hoover

But I’m not falling in love with her piece by piece anymore. I’m in love with the whole girl. Every single piece of her.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

4. Augustus Waters – The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

“It’s just that most really good-looking people are stupid, so I exceed expectations.’
‘Right, it’s primarily his hotness,’ I said.
‘It can be sort of blinding,’ he said.
‘It actually did blind our friend Isaac,’ I said.
‘Terrible tragedy, that. But can I help my own deadly beauty?’
‘You cannot.’
‘It is my burden, this beautiful face.’
‘Not to mention your body.’
‘Seriously, don’t even get me started on my hot bod. You don’t want to see me naked, Dave. Seeing me naked actually took Hazel Grace’s breath away,’ he said, nodding toward the oxygen tank.”

Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

5. Josh BennettThe Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

The world should be full of Josh Bennetts. But it’s not. I had the only one. And I threw him away.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

6. Travis MaddoxBeautiful Disaster (Beautiful #2) by Jamie McGuire

“To douchebags!” he said, gesturing to Brad. “And to girls that break your heart,” he bowed his head to me. His eyes lost focus. “And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to fall in love with her.”

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

7. Étienne St. ClairAnna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

French name, English accent, American school. Anna confused.

Crash by Nicole Williams

8. Jude RyderCrash (Crash #1) by Nicole Williams

“The name’s Jude Ryder, since I know you’re all but salivating like a rabid dog to know, and I don’t do girlfriends, relationships, flowers or regular phone calls. If that works for you, I think we could work out something special.”

Divergent by Veronica Roth

9. FourDivergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

Who is he when he isn’t Dauntless, isn’t an instructor, isn’t Four, isn’t anything in particular?
Whoever he is, I like him. It’s easier to admit that to myself now, in the dark, after all that just happened. He is not sweet or gentle or particularly kind. But he is smart and brave, and even though he saved me, he treated me like I was strong. That is all I need to know.

Slammed by Colleen Hoover

10. Will CooperSlammed (Slammed #1) by Colleen Hoover

“So you keep your ocean, I’ll take the Lake.”

Yes, I KNOW these are all guy characters’ names, but I just can’t help loving them and their names! What are your favorite character names?
