Thirty-year-old Daisy DiStefano has two people she holds dear: the grandmother who raised her, and her three-year-old son, Elliott. But when Daisy’s grandmother is killed in a seemingly random act of violence, Daisy must take steps to protect herself and her child.

Despite a thriving career in San Francisco, thirty-six-year-old Brooks McClain has returned home to spend what little time his mother has left before she succumbs to the deadly disease that is ravaging her. The seasoned investigative reporter has taken a position with the local newspaper and been on the job less than twenty-four hours when he’s summoned to cover the death of Pauline Thorpe.

Brooks is all business, but the more time he spends with Daisy DiStefano, the more invested he becomes; there’s something about a single mother, a defenseless child, and an unsolved crime that has stirred Brooks’s protective instincts like nothing ever has before.

And when the unthinkable happens, Brooks will do whatever it takes to clear the name of the woman he’s fallen for and the child he’ll protect at any cost.

Romantic and suspenseful, Every Time I Think of You shows how far two people will go to fight for the ones they love, and the life they’ve always imagined.

excerpt

My watch said 11:00 p.m. Way too late to show up unannounced, but I knocked on Daisy’s door anyway, picturing her tip-toeing quietly to look through the peephole. It took a full minute because I’d undoubtedly roused her from a sound sleep. But then she opened the door far enough for me to cross the threshold and locked it again behind me.

The apartment was dark, save for a small beam of light that spilled into the hallway from her bedroom. As my eyes adjusted I noticed her hair. I’d never seen it down before. It fell way past her shoulders and was slightly messy, like she’d been tossing and turning in her sleep before I arrived. She wore a pair of pajama pants and a tank top with narrow straps, one of which had fallen off her shoulder.

“What is it?” she asked. “Are you okay?”

“My mom died,” I said. It felt strange to say the words out loud. My voice sounded flat, unemotional.

“I’m so sorry, Brooks,” she said, but she didn’t say anything else.

I wanted something that would take away the empty, restless feeling inside of me. Something solid and real. She was standing close enough that one step was all I needed to close the gap between us. She must have taken a shower right before she went to bed because when I plunged my hands into all that hair, grabbing fistfuls and pulling her up against me, I felt the dampness and smelled the faint traces of her shampoo.

I moved my hands to the sides of her face and cupped it. She didn’t miss a beat when I pressed my lips to hers. She was probably wondering how I could possibly kiss her at a time like this, but it didn’t stop her from putting her arms around me and kissing me back like it was exactly what she needed, too.

Like the steady turn of a release valve, everything that had been bottled up inside of me escaped slowly through that kiss. I hadn’t realized how rigidly I’d been holding my body until it slackened against hers. How tightly I’d been clenching my jaw until I relaxed it to kiss her. All the tension I’d been feeling disappeared when she opened her mouth and let me in.

It was a long slow kiss, the kind that wasn’t meant to lead to anything else and was all the more powerful because of it. When I’d finally had enough I said, “I don’t know why I came. It’s late. I woke you up.”

“It’s okay,” she said softly. “I don’t mind.”

“Go back to bed,” I whispered.

She nodded and I opened the door. “Lock this behind me,” I said, and I waited in the hallway until I heard the tumble of the lock clicking into place.

First off, I want to say that I am so incredibly happy to be a part of the Hothouse Flower promo tour! Hothouse Flower is out in just NINE more days–can you believe it? It seems so soon and yet so far away… But seriously, in just NINE more days, we FINALLY get to have Ryke and Daisy’s story in our hands. God, I cannot wait!!

And if you don’t know who Ryke and Daisy are, they’re characters from the Addicted series by Krista & Becca Ritchie (you can see the recommended reading order below the interview). The Addicted series is seriously one of my all-time FAVORITES! If I could make everyone read it, I would. 🙂 But today, I get to have the amazing author duo here on the blog! Krista & Becca are twin authors and simply ah-mazing! So read on for my interview with K & B, and don’t forget to enter the fabulous giveaway from them!

Author Interview: Krista & Becca Ritchie

Hothouse Flower is COMING SOON!! Can you tell us if we have anything to look forward to like *cough* another lap dance *cough*?

Krista: Oh gosh, how do I answer this without spoilers? It’s so difficult, lol! There’s not another lap dance. I don’t think we would be able to write anything that tops Connor Cobalt’s epic lap dance. But there are some scenes that may make you gasp. It’s all very Ryke and Daisy. Obviously, I’m not very good at this, lol. *looks to Becca*

Becca: Flirtiness! There is flirting to be had. Maybe even flirting on motorcycles. Maybe even MORE!

One of my favorite, favorite Ryke quotes that just stuck out to me was one from Kiss the Sky– “For as much as I give Ryke a hard time, I can’t imagine another person with a kinder soul.” Because underneath all those ‘fucks’ and middle fingers, Ryke truly does have a beautiful heart. In the Bonus Material, we learn that he can also understand French. I love that Ryke has so much hidden depth to him–it makes him all the more amazing and attractive. Did you two always plan for Ryke to be ‘more than meets the eye’? And just how much do we learn about the Ryke underneath the harsh exterior?

Krista: I love that quote as well! It truly sums up Ryke’s character. He’s a nice guy but he doesn’t allow people to see that part of him. We usually don’t plan our character’s personalities out to that extent. They’re just something that develops when we start giving them backstories.

Becca: You will definitely get inside his head and see that his intentions are good ones, even if they come across harsh. Connor peeled back those layers in Kiss the Sky, and it’ll be nice for everyone to see all of Ryke Meadows in Hothouse Flower 😉

I looove the pictures you have on your Pinterest! And your Q&A’s on Tumblr… and your Twitter, Facebook, and everywhere else you two show up! But how on earth do you have time to do all that AND write the most incredible books ever?

Krista: Thank you! I’m pretty obsessed with pinning, so Pinterest is a dangerous place for me. I’d like to say that we’re magical and have found magic hours in the day that other people don’t have, but really we’re always working. Between social media and writing and promoting our books, we work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day. It’s not an exaggeration. But it’s what we love and it’s our dream to have this career, so we’ll happily put in the hours. We wouldn’t want to do anything else. And talking to everyone on social media sites is less like work and more like our fun time anyway 😉

Becca: We do love it, and we’ll eventually slow down, I’m sure. But not yet 🙂

One of the most heartbreaking scenes for me to read was when Ryke found out about what his mother did to Lily. What were the most heartbreaking scenes for you two to write?

Krista: Oh yeah, that one was rough to write! I think the ending for Addicted to You was probably the most heartbreaking for me. Lo is such a tortured soul, so to see him break down and then have to leave Lily at the end of the book was really hard. But it was something that had to be done.

Becca: I agree with Krista. I think I was crying when it was my turn to work on the scene where Lo finds out the truth. But Ryke finding out about his mom was nearly as painful. I love that moment at the end where it’s a role reversal of sorts, and in that moment, Lo had to be strong for Ryke. There are also quite a few heartbreaking scenes in Hothouse Flower that had me all choked up.

What’s the weirdest/funniest thing you’ve ever had to look up for your books?

Krista: You know, when we wrote Addicted to You we were using our campus’ internet at our University and I was so paranoid that some IT student behind a desk was looking at everything I was searching. My history was littered with sites about sex addiction. But I don’t know if I really have a funny search.  Most of my searches are usually for places if they’re not about sex addiction. Like Acapulco, Mexico and stuff like that. I’m sure Becca has a better story.

Becca: Ummm, I remember when I was researching things for Kiss the Sky, I wanted Rose to say that she was so angry that she could kill a group of pandas, but she wouldn’t say a “group” she would say the actual term. You know like a “pride” of lions. Or a “litter” of kittens. So I searched for what a group of pandas would be called. I was so saddened by the answer that I Tweeted about it!

Krista & Becca funny

Apparently Pandas don’t group together. They’re loners!

I’ve always wondered–why make Ricochet and Thrive optional to read? Why make the series 3 books with 2 full-length companions and not 5 books total? I always tell everyone not to skip Ricochet, even though they can!

Krista: This a great question! And I think a lot of people are curious about it. We actually have two reasons.

1. Ricochet was always intended to be a novella (but it ended up being longer). We hate when the main male characters leave in second books. Edward left in New Moon. Kaidan left in Sweet Peril. There are plenty more examples, and we don’t like it. But Lo had to leave for rehab and we felt like we couldn’t skip over Lily’s journey during that time. So we wanted Ricochet to be optional for those who don’t like it when the male lead leaves.

2. We’re not that popular. Not everyone will read all of the books in our series. Not everyone will want to. Especially since we’re not Abbi Glines or Jennifer L. Armentrout. A 7 book series is a huge commitment for readers, and we knew that by making some of our books optional, it would be easier for some to jump into the series.

Becca: The second point Krista made is very important to us. We’re still new authors, and some people may be afraid to take a chance on our books. We never want this series to seem too overwhelming or daunting, and we’re definitely trying our hardest to show that you can jump in at certain points. For instance, you can JUST read Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower if you want. If you’re the type of reader who doesn’t like to commit to a new author, this may be a good place for you to start. Now, die-hard Addicted series fans will disagree and say to read the whole series from the beginning, but it really just depends on what type of reader you are.

I’ve heard that you two are working on other books not related to the Addicted series! (YES!! *pumps fist*) Do you have any news you could share about them? (I’m seriously a fan for life–I’ll read anything and everything you two write!)

Krista: Thanks, that means so much! And I wish we had some teaser or news, but it’s all hush-hush. We’re working on two new series right now. All I can say is that one of them is going to be called the “Like Us” series.

Becca: I’m really excited that we’re going to be able to work on books outside of the series (as well as continuing the Addicted series with Thrive and Addicted After All!) It’ll be fun to give all of you a whole new world *cue Aladdin music*

And lastly, 5 words to describe Hothouse Flower?

Krista: Illicit, fun, thrilling, sexy, surprises

Becca: Can I give 5 words too or is that cheating? Oh well, I’m doing it! WILD, HOT, DARING, FEAR, FORBIDDEN

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Krista and Becca!! You two are the best! 🙂

K&B: Aw, thank you for having us on your blog!! ❤ ❤

Twenty-five-year-old Ryke Meadows knows he’s hard to love. With a billion-dollar inheritance, a track-star resume, and an alpha-male personality—he redefines the term likable asshole. But he’s not living to make friends. Or enemies. He just wants to free climb three of the toughest mountains in Yosemite without drama or interruption.

And then he receives a distressed call from a girl in Paris—a girl that he has never been allowed to have.

Daisy Calloway is eighteen. Finally. With her newfound independence, she can say goodbye to her overbearing mother and continue her modeling career. Next stop, Paris. Fashion Week begins with a bang, and Daisy uncovers the ugly reality of the industry. She wants to prove to her family that she can live on her own, but when everything spirals out of control, she turns to Ryke to keep her secrets.

As Daisy struggles to make sense of this new world and her freedom, she pushes the limits and fearlessly rides the edge. Ryke knows there’s deep hurt beneath every impulsive action. K.A. Tucker Secret Announcement

Fans of Ten Tiny Breaths, we have a SUPER exciting announcement:

On September 1, 2014, Atria is releasing a PREQUEL NOVELLA to Ten Tiny Breaths that tells the story from Trent’s point of view! It’s called IN HER WAKE, and we cannot wait one more breath to read it!

In Her Wake by K.A. Tucker

Cole Reynolds had it all. And then one night he makes a bad choice… and loses everything.

When a drunken night out at a Michigan State college party results in the death of six people, Cole must come to terms with his part in the tragedy. Normally, he’d be able to lean on his best friends. The best friends that have been in his life since he could barely walk. Only, they’re gone. Worse, there’s the shattered body of a sixteen-year-old girl lying somewhere in a hospital bed, her entire life ripped from her because of a case of beer and a set of keys.

Everyone assures him that they know it wasn’t intentional and yet he can’t ignore the weight of their gazes, the whispers behind his back. The all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won’t so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip of what once was important-college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It’s not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness.

And there’s only one person who can give that to him…

Are you as excited about this as we are??

Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine year old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.

Twenty-two-year old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her doesn’t need to complicate her life with romance.

Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

Author Interview: Aleatha Romig

Please tell us about Consequences, your addition to the amazing anthology Make Me: Twelve Tales of Dark Desire.

Consequences was my first novel and is the first in the Consequences Series, which includes: Consequences, Truth, Convicted, and the Behind His Eyes Reading Companion Trilogy. Consequences is the story of Claire Nichols, who wakes in an unfamiliar bedroom. She’s been kidnapped, used, and abused by the handsome, charismatic, and wealthy Anthony Rawlings. Claire quickly learns that his public and private personas are drastically different. Survival requires following his rules. However, Consequences isn’t only about her survival, but it’s also a thriller/mystery; thus the puzzle piece on the cover. As you read, you’ll learn that Claire’s abduction was not a random act. Anthony Rawlings chose Claire for a purpose—as you read, hopefully, you will put together the pieces of the puzzle and learn why Claire was forced to face the Consequences.

What was the most difficult thing about writing Consequences?

As I stated, Consequences was my first ever novel. I didn’t know the rules, and broke most of them. I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to approach subjects like rape and domestic abuse. I didn’t know that I was supposed to sugar-coat it. I didn’t know that I couldn’t make my characters flawed and real. Now that I know those rules, I’m very glad I broke them. I believe that readers are tired of reading predictable stories, they crave something different. I love the darkness of Consequences as well as the other amazing stories in Make Me. I believe that some people crave a world darker than the one we would personally want to inhabit. Writing Consequences was often an emotional struggle. Claire Nichols lived in my head so completely that when she was happy, I was happy. When she wasn’t—neither was I.

Are all of the books in this series currently available and how long did they take you to write?

Yes, the series: Consequences, Truth, and Convicted are all available. Each novel took me a year to write. They are long (“long assed” according to my amazing formatter) novels. They range from 165K words to 190K words. There are many twists and turns and the second novel, Truth, introduces a plethora of new characters. In the reading companions, I’ve included a timeline of events as well as a glossary of characters. The companions are not all complete.

What are you working on now?

Currently, I’m working on the Consequences Series Reading Companions. Though my stories are told in 3rd person, they are predominately from the point of view of Claire. The reading companions are entitled Behind His Eyes. They are NOT total rewrites of each novel. They are significant scenes from each novel as well as behind-the-scenes scenes. What Claire believes is happening and what’s really occurring are two different things. With Behind His Eyes, I show you what’s really going on from Anthony (Tony) Rawlings POV.  Behind His Eyes Consequences was released in January of 2014, Behind His Eyes Truth will be released March 18, 2014, and Behind His Eyes Convicted will be released May 20, 2014.

Do you have plans for another series?

Yes! I’m very excited! I can’t wait to get going on this next series. I must admit, I’m not a planner. I have an idea and know where I want it to go. That was what I had with Consequences. I have to “get into” my characters and once I do, they lead me. As a matter of fact, Consequences was meant as a standalone book. I worked very hard to weave Truth and Convicted into the paradigm I’d set with Consequences. For that reason, I can’t say if my next series will be one, two, three, or more books…I will let them decide.

How do you feel about being included in Make Me: Twelve Tales of Dark Desire?

I’m honored! The Dark Duet was my first “dark desire” read, after writing Consequences and Truth. I like crime shows and I read a lot of thrillers, but all the romances I’d read up to that point were pretty fluffy. (We all need that once in a while) I loved CJ Robert’s story! I was truly “captivated”. Since that time, my reading genres have broadened—exponentially. Recently, I finished Pepper Winters’ Tears of Tess and Quintessentially Q. Again, blown away! It takes a lot to throw me—Pepper did it! Skye Warren, Eliza Gayle, I could go on and on with each and every author! There is so much talent in this amazing anthology. I’m honored to be included!

Alison lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, Jef, and their two furry children (dogs). She’s addicted to Diet Pepsi and anything with sugar.
