Review: The Ever After of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen

The Ever After of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen

The Ever After of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen
Series: The Secret #4 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: December 3rd 2013
Purchase: Ebook • Paperback

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Temptation of Lila and Ethan comes a story of change, hope, and unbreakable vows.

The day Ella has waited for is just around the corner. It’s the day she’ll marry Micha, the love of her life, the light that guided her out of the darkness. It looks like it will be the perfect Christmas-until an unexpected package arrives with a harsh reminder of Ella’s past. Suddenly Ella doesn’t feel as confident about her future. Can she really have a “happily-ever-after” if she’s never even seen one?

Micha will stand by Ella no matter what she’s going through-though he worries that she might leave him standing at the altar again. When he’s offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to tour with his favorite bands for three months, Micha knows he can’t leave Ella behind. But can he ask her to uproot her life to join him on the road?

Now Ella and Micha must find a way to balance their fears, their dreams, and their love . . . if they ever want to hear wedding bells.

Ella and Micha just can’t catch a break! They’re still not quite at their happily ever after yet, but all in good time, right?

Ella finally moved that engagement ring to the right finger, but when the day came for Ella and Micha to marry… she couldn’t go through with it. It wasn’t that she didn’t love Micha, because she does, and you can feel just how much she loves him through her thoughts, but something just didn’t feel right. Ella is terrified that somewhere down the road, she’ll end up like her mother and bring Micha down with her. But Micha, the stubborn, beautiful boy that he is, won’t let Ella give up on their happily ever after.

“I fucking love you. Don’t you get that?” I unclench my hands and stretch my arm over to her, grabbing her arm as she shakes her head. “I love you.” My voice softens. “And no matter what happens, with you or me–with us–I’m always going to love you.”

AHH!!! This boy is the sweetest, most adorable boyfriend ever. He adores Ella, thinks the world of her, and has always been there for her when others weren’t. And now that he has Ella, he wants her forever. Because a love like theirs really deserves a forever. The Ever After of Ella and Micha is shorter than the previous books, but it packs just as heavy a punch with the emotions. Ella was a bit hard to like, but Micha totally stole my heart. This isn’t my favorite of the series, but I still really enjoyed reading Ella and Micha’s final story.

“Just you and me against the world,” I whisper as tears drip from my eyes and down my cheeks.
He fixes a finger underneath my chin, slants my head back, and leans in to kiss me. “Always and forever.”

This book is a quick read, but I really felt for Ella and Micha, especially Micha. Micha is kind of perfect. He says the most loving things to Ella and has no problem with expressing his love for her. And I was so glad that he finally gets the girl of his dreams.

“I couldn’t have done life without you and every single moment, good or bad, has been worth it because it got us right here to this very place and this very moment where I get to have you for the rest of my life. You make me happier then I can even begin to explain. I love you, Ella May, more than life itself, and I’ll continue to love you until I take my last breath–I’ll love you forever. You own my heart.”

This book is really too much sweetness, although that balances with Ella’s darker problems with her mother. For fans of the series, I think you’ll enjoy reading about Ella and Micha’s romance one last time. They finally get the happily ever after that they deserve.

Yes, Master by Margaret McHeyzer

My uncle raped me.

I was 10 years old when it started.

At 13 he told me I was no longer wanted because I had started to develop.

At 16 I was ready to kill him.

Today, I’m broken.

Today, I only breathe to survive.

My name’s Sergeant Major Ryan Jenkins and today, I’m ready to tell you my story.

“Master would flog me if I did, she won’t be happy when I tell her what happened here.”

“Master?”

“Stella.”

Oh, Master.

Excerpt

“It’s just such a difficult situation.”

“Of course it’s difficult.” She stops talking and taps her fingernails again. My eyes go to where she’s tapping, and then follow up to her face. I try to avoid her abrasive orbs. “You’re overpowered by agony and torment, and it’s slowly claiming you day by day.”

I finally concede and look into Stella’s eyes. Because every word she’s said, and every sentence that she’s breathed out has been so accurate about me.

“Freedom,” she says as I intake a huge gulp of air at that word. “I can promise you freedom if you can promise me you’ll never lie to me.”

Fuck.

I want it. I think I may even deserve my very own happily ever after. Are they real? According to movies and books they’re attainable. But this isn’t a movie, or even a fucking book.

This is my life.

And I’m going to try to get it.

“No lies, ever,” I whisper.

about the author

I don’t do ‘normal’.

I’ve found that the more I write, the more I like being different to other authors. I write in first person, and I love to challenge a reader.
I take the normal and switch it around.
For me, I really enjoy getting a reaction from a reader. So if I can evoke an emotion (regardless of if it’s the emotion the reader wants) then I figure that I’ve done my job as an author I want to be.
I really quite revel in taking people out of their comfort zones and pushing them to read something different.
My genre of writing is, well quite frankly, where ever my mind goes. I won’t label myself because I don’t like sticking to one genre.
My goal with writing is just to take people away from whatever is going on in their lives, even if it’s only for a split second.
I’m a go with the flow sort of person and don’t really take a course of action to get where I am going. I live in the moment and don’t usually worry about tomorrow because whatever life is due to bring me, I’ll be happy to accept.
I love my family and friends and will help anyway I can if someone needs it. I really don’t like people that are nasty just because they can be, I don’t believe that’s necessary, I mean life’s hard enough as it is!
I hope you enjoy my books, I’ve had a hoot writing them. There’s more to come…..
Til next time.

Release Date: June 24th 2014

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

But which man is truly Clark Kent and which is her Superman?

You might know where this story’s headed. But the best part isn’t where we ended up.

It’s how we got there.

Love is like an avalanche. It hits hard, fast and without mercy.

At least it did for me when Sculpt, the lead singer of the rock band Tear Asunder knocked me off my feet. Literally, because he’s also a fighter, illegally of course, and he taught me how to fight. He also taught me how to love and I fell hard for him. I mean the guy could do sweet, when he wasn’t doing bossy, and I like sweet.

Then it all shattered.

Kidnapped.

Starved.

Beaten.

I was alone and fighting to survive.

When I heard Sculpt’s voice, I thought he was there to save me. I was wrong.

*Warning: This book contains some disturbing situations, strong language and sexual content. Over 18 years.

This is a love story with some dark elements. No cliffhanger and next in the Tear Asunder series is Ream’s story.

QQ Teaser 6

Deleted Snippets

Wrenching on the shower, I stepped under the needles of heat and tried to relax. Fuck this was hard. I wasn’t used to sharing—laying my secrets out in the open. The closer Tess got to me the more she saw and the more I tried to withdraw. Stop being so weak. I wished I could reprogram myself and accept her promise, to trust in her. No, if I could reprogram myself I wanted to be able to remove these dark thoughts and banish the need to hurt. That’s what I really wished for.

****

The urge to just touch her, not to inflict pain or consume her, grabbed me around the back of the throat. I looked over my shoulder. She stood not far away. Her hair whipping around her as the helicopter ascended into the sky and her skirt torn from my rough handling. If I looked closer, I saw the faint crinkle of where my hands had marred her blazer, and the redness of the tie burn around her wrists.

QQ Teaser 1

excerpt

Q moved suddenly, pushing off from the cage and striding toward the entrance of the aviary. He unlocked the deadbolt and entered the space. Birds chirped louder as Q stood in the centre of their world. He looked like a man robbed of his own wings. A fallen angel that had no place on earth and fought a daily battle to fit in.

I stepped forward. Should I say something? Comfort him? My heart twisted, needing to be there for him, but no longer able to. No matter how many kind words I spoke, Q would see I no longer lived inside.

My soul jangled with chains and locks, saving me but also ruining me. The longer I lived in my tower the more passion and connection faded.

I hated the numbing virus inside, spreading slowly, deleting all memory of who Tess had been. I was replaced with a carbon replica who would float away in the wind, robbed of her convictions and thoughts. All because I wasn’t strong enough to face what I’d done.

Q cursed under his breath, his chest pumping with emotion. “Why should I keep you when you don’t want to be here? You’re not here for me. You’re here because I lock you up. You’re my prisoners, my captives, my trophies.”

He hung his head before waving his arms. Allez vous-en. Je ne veux plus de vous. Elle ne veut plus de plus alors ça sert à quoi, putain? ” Fly away. I no longer want you. She no longer wants me, so what’s the fucking point?

The birds went crazy, darting left and right, spying freedom through the open door. They exploded through the exit and into the conservatory, weaving through plants and water features.

Wings rustled as I ducked from a small flock of robins.

“Get out!” Q yelled; the birds flurried harder. “Get far away from me.”

I stepped backward, not wanting to see Q breakdown. I wanted it to hurt—to kill me with knowledge that I’d ripped out his heart—but all I felt was emptiness.

Q looked up and froze.

His eyes locked on mine, shining with rage and blackness. I prayed for some awakening, so I could put both of us out of our misery. I wanted to bring forth all my love for him and keep hiding from my guilt. I wanted to erase the darkness, the lostness and hate from his eyes, but I was useless.

Bowing my head, I dropped my gaze.

Q cursed, exiting the aviary, humming with anger and rage. He stalked toward me, stopping so close his body heat seared my skin.

I flinched, expecting him to lash out—to grab my hair, slap me—something to wake me up.

When he didn’t touch me, I looked up. Q murmured, “So low you must think of me.” He captured a curl, running it gently through his fingertips. “Fly away, esclave, if that is what you want. I won’t stop you.” His tone was bleak and derelict.

about the author

Pepper WintersPepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero the better and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex.

She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby (who speaks French—hot!) who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends. She loves to hear from her readers so hit her up at pepperwinters@gmail.com
