Angelle Prejean is in a pickle. Her family is expecting her to come home with a fiancé—a fiancé who doesn’t exist. Well, he exists, but he definitely has no idea Angelle told her mama they were engaged. Tattooed, muscled, and hotter than sin, Cane can reduce Angelle to a hot mess with one look—and leave her heart a mess if she falls for him. But when she ends up winning Cane at a charity bachelor auction, she knows just how to solve her fiancé problem.

Cane Robicheaux is no one’s prince. He doesn’t do relationships and he doesn’t fall in love. When sweet, sultry-voiced Angelle propositions him, he hopes their little game can finally get her out of his head. He doesn’t expect her to break through all his barriers. But even as Angelle burrows deeper into his heart, he knows once their seven days are up, so is their ruse.

Rachel Harris Seven Day Fiancé Teaser 1

Excerpt

Angelle stopped beside a folding table boasting boxes of fresh, crispy cracklins and selected a thick piece. Cane watched, mesmerized, as she puckered those gorgeous lips and blew on the sliver. With a flirtatious glint in her eyes, she held it up to his mouth, and he opened.

Holy crap.

He’d had cracklins before. Fried pork fat was a standard gas station treat, usually shrink-wrapped and stale as shit. But this, fresh from the pot and piping hot, was unbelievable. Cane widened his eyes, and it was possible he even moaned. It was thatgood. And as he swallowed, Angel rewarded him with a rich, throaty laugh.

Ca c’est bon?” she asked, grinning when he grabbed another handful.

He touched her nose and popped a piece in his mouth. “Good would be an understatement.”

Grinning, she took a fried morsel for herself and sent the balding, overweight gentleman tending the table a wink. “Now that’s what we like to hear.” Then she closed her eyes as she savored the treat.

The sounds of Angel moaning, and watching her face soften in the throes of a foodgasm, had to be the sexiest damn thing Cane had ever seen. His pants tightened, embarrassingly so considering he knew the audience was still watching, but what pushed him over the edge was when her eyes opened. The pleasure in them was his undoing.

Feeling the weight of the crowd’s disapproving stares and not giving a damn, figuring now was as good a time as any to give the people the show they clearly wanted, he grasped her hip and tugged her forward, pausing only to inhale her gasp of surprise before brushing her mouth with his.

It was like setting off a damn forest fire.

Angelle, his shocking little hellcat, pounced. Forgetting all about their audience, or maybe not giving a damn either, she wound her arms around his neck, lifted onto her toes, and kissed him back with everything she had. Cane had intended to steal a quick taste, take the edge off his craving for her, and prove their point with the town’s people. But hell if he was gonna be the one to back down now. Tightening his grasp on her slim hips, he brushed his thumbs across the smooth, exposed skin near her waistband. He deepened the kiss, thrilling over her telltale shiver. Whimpering, she yanked on the hair at his nape and sucked his bottom lip into her mouth. Hot damn.

Okay, now he had to start backing down. With all her male relatives watching, not to mention the knives and axes still lying around from the butchering earlier, if Cane valued his life, he needed to wrangle control of the situation. He’d heard patience was a virtue. That was a line of bull—he’d always sucked at waiting for anything he wanted. But for Angel, he was willing to try.

Loosening his grip on her belt loops, Cane slowed the intensity of the kiss. He smoothed the hem of her shirt down, grazed her lips one last time, and, placing his forehead against hers, inhaled through his nose. Sunflowers mixed with cayenne may be his new favorite scent. Angelle released a heavy breath, a flush blooming on her cheeks. She darted a glance at the crowd, then looking into his eyes, grinned lazily. “My goodness. If anyone doubted we were a couple before, I guess that showed them.”

about the author

Rachel Harris

I grew up in New Orleans, where I watched soap operas with my grandmother and stayed up late sneak reading my mama’s favorite romance novels. Now a Cajun cowgirl living in Houston, I still stay up way too late reading my favorite romances, only now, I can do so openly. I firmly believe life’s problems can be solved with a hot, powdered-sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations.

When not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance,I homeschool my two beautiful girls and watch reality television with my amazing husband.

I write YA, NA, and Adult Fun & Flirty Escapes. Taste The Heat is my adult romance debut, and I’m also the author of MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY and A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES, as well as a ton of other books to come. I love hearing from readers and dishing books!

Back in college, the bras-before-bros sisterhood decided to live for achievement in the boardroom, not the bedroom. Rosalind Betters embraced that philosophy, pursuing her career and little else. But when her last single friend, Kamakshi, announces her engagement in of all things, an arranged marriage, Rosalind reevaluates the merits of matrimony. In her typical gung ho fashion, she names a date, books a venue, hires a caterer, and picks out a dress, all before finding a groom. Taking a lesson from Kamakshi and too busy to do otherwise, Rosalind hires San Francisco’s best headhunter, Xavier Hommes, to find her better half for her.

At first, Xavier thinks Rosalind is one of the eccentric personalities for which the city is famous. As the search starts, however, Xavier finds himself hating his task for reasons he never would have suspected. If Rosalind really wants a man who will make her happy, she need look no further. As W-Day approaches and Rosalind starts falling for someone Xavier himself headhunted, he walks the line between professionalism and passion, trying to decide if competing to become Mr. Betters is worth the risk to his commission, his reputation, and Rosalind’s happiness.

Excerpt

“I’m going to be heading out to celebrate with my friend tonight,” Rosalind explained. “Any chance you could take my clothes from the bag here and drop them at the cleaner?”

“More than happy to.”

It was then that Rosalind noticed that not only was Carmen following her up to her, it was odd that she was about at all. “Wait, why did you come over?”

Carmen’s eyes darted towards the floor indicator light as it moved from three to four. “Just wanted to make sure you got in all right, is all.”

“No, really?”

The smile Carmen was laboring to suppress didn’t elude her.

“Oh, my god, Carmen. Is there something upstairs you’re not telling me?” Bubbles may have been bursting around the corners of her mouth. At least that’s what it felt like.

“Maybe.”

So when the door opened on the fifteenth floor a moment later, Rosalind sprinted. It had been a lifelong dream of hers to walk in to a room and unexpectantly find it filled with balloons, streamers, and friends. She had wondered why there weren’t more calls right after the new broke as it was. The fact that all her friends must be waiting for her above suddenly solved that mystery.

Throwing open the door, she ran inside and blinked rapidly.

No streamers, no banners, no twinkle lights.

Just Kamakshi, who beamed from her position in the middle of the entryway, a bouquet of daisies in her arms.

“Congratulations!” she shouted as she rushed forward and took her best friend in her arms, jumping up and down like she’d just won the Showcase Showdown. “I knew you were up to something great. This is awesome. I’m so happy for you!”

“Thanks.” Rosalind tried not to sound like she’d just had one of the biggest let downs – albeit self-imposed – in her adult life. Instead, she just lifted an arm, put it around her friend, and hugged her back, sighing again, “Thanks.”

Carmen shuffled in behind, her head turning left and right, searching. “Where is everyone?”

“Everyone?” A beam of hope lit Rosalind’s features as she pulled back and dashed her head in ten directions.

But all it took was Kamakshi’s inability to meet Rosalind’s gaze to answer that question. As though realizing she’d realized the disappointment her with the response brought, a string of rushed explanation burst for from Kamakshi’s mouth.

“I knew when you said you were going for a potentially game-changing meeting in Washington, you meant it. But I didn’t want to plan anything to extravagant, just in case it all fell through. Plus, I’ve barely seen or talked to you in weeks in I didn’t know how stressed you were or if you home was in complete chaos. I mean, I sent out texts to everyone in the gang, but I only had an hour’s notice when I knew for sure and…”

“Kamakshi, you are the most anal retentive person I know when it comes to planning out each moment of your day,” Rosalind declared by way of cutting off her friend. “You schedule your dentist check-ups two years in advance. Just, tell me the truth, when did you really plan this?”

She may actually cry. Okay, her friends all had their own lives and jobs and some even had families now, if she remembered correctly. But still, there was a whole office of workers just a few miles away that should be just as happy about this. “And my team from BetaHouse?”

“I didn’t want to involve them too early. I was afraid they would blab,” Carmen admitted. “I did give the office manager a call on my way over here to see if anyone could come, but they said they had already clocked out for the night to celebrate and most of them were three bottles in. I didn’t think you’d want them stumbling over her half drunk.”

“Okay, okay. That makes sense.” Rosalind planted her hands on her hips and looked at the floor, as though she were forcing her feet to stay under her. “But… None of the gang said they’d come over?”

Kamakshi diverted her gaze. “Well, not without cause.”

Her long, silky black hair fell against Rosalind’s shoulder as she guided her towards the living room. Carmen closed the door to the elevator lobby and dashed off to the kitchen, reemerging a moment later with a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

“Jamie’s at home taking care of the baby. Lani couldn’t fly up from L.A., she and Jack are leaving for a cruise in the morning. Liz really, really wanted to be here, but she’s visiting her in-laws in London this week. And Nichole. Well, you know about Nichole.”

“No, I don’t. What about Nichole?” Somehow, Rosalind’s upper and lower teeth had declared war on each other, not out of anger, out of fear and confusion. The clenching stopped, however, when her imagination took off. “Oh, my god, is she dead? Kamakshi, tell me she’s not dead. I know I’ve been busy, but I haven’t been that busy. I would notice if one of my best friends died.”

“No, she’s fine!” Kamakshi took the flute Carmen offered. “She moved to Dubai with her husband. You don’t remember me telling you about that Arab millionaire she married? Yup, he’s heading up his daddy’s construction firm.”

“Wait! Nichole is married?”  Shell shocked was putting it mildly. “And Jamie had a baby? Like, a baby human?”

“Last spring. Ben. He’s almost a year old. He is so cute! Last week he started doing this thing where he… Raz, you don’t look well. Sit down. Carmen, help me?”

Together, they hooked arms with Rosalind and maneuvered her around a glass coffee table with chrome accents, then lowered her to the white leather sofa. Her body surrendered to the couch with a gentle moan of the leather under her lithe frame.

“Drink this.” Carmen pushed the flute into Rosalind’s hand.

Without looking anywhere but dead ahead, Rosalind pressed the glass to her lips, tilted it back and in one fell swoop, downed the entirety.

Kamakshi bit her bottom lip. “Maybe we should have gotten her some water instead.”

about the author

Killian McRae would tell you that she is a rather boring lass, an authoress whose characters’ lives are so much more exciting than her own. She would be right. Sadly, this sarcastic lexophile leads a rather mundane existence in the San Francisco Bay Area. She once dreamed of being the female Indiana Jones, and to that end she earned a degree in Middle Eastern History from the University of Michigan. However, when she learned that real archaeologist spend more time lovingly removing dust with toothbrushes from shards of pottery than outrunning intriguing villains with exotic accents, she decided to become a writer instead. She writes across many genres, including science fiction, fantasy, romance, and historical fiction.

Review: United We Spy by Ally Carter

United We Spy by Ally Carter

United We Spy by Ally Carter
Series: Gallagher Girls #6 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: September 17th 2013
Purchase: Ebook • Hardcover • Paperback

Cammie Morgan has lost her father and her memory, but in the heart-pounding conclusion to the best-selling Gallagher Girls series, she finds her greatest mission yet. Cammie and her friends finally know why the terrorist organization called the Circle of Cavan has been hunting her. Now the spy girls and Zach must track down the Circle’s elite members to stop them before they implement a master plan that will change Cammie—and her country—forever.

I can’t believe the Gallagher Girls series is over. I just never expected it to come… so soon. I always kind of thought that this series would never end, you know? It’s been going on for so long (7 YEARS!!) that I never expected Cammie and the gang’s story to finally come to its conclusion. But I honestly could not have hoped for a better ending than the one Ally Carter gives us with United We Spy. It was everything I expected and more.

I still remember lil ol’ middle schooler me going into Target and seeing this kickass book about girls who are SPIES, and thinking, Oh gosh, I have GOT to read that book! And can you believe this was back in 2006?!? I was still just a kid back then when the first book released, and now I’m only a few months away from turning 18 and the Gallagher Girls series is ending. It’s like marking the end of my childhood. And I couldn’t help but feel just a little bit heartbroken after finishing United We Spy. The series has been with me for so long, and it was like saying goodbye to a childhood friend.

Let me first start by saying that I LOVED this book with all of my heart. It was absolutely incredibleAlly Carter goes all out and holds nothing back, and if you haven’t read this yet, you are in for the ride of your life. Page after page is full of intense action, stunning revelations, unveiled secrets, and, of course, a sweet, heartfelt romance (can’t forget about that!).

It’s Cammie’s senior year at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, and Ally Carter does a wonderful job of writing about Cammie’s anxiety for the future. It’s her last year of high school, of attending a school that is, for all intents and purpose, her home. And she’ll be leaving pretty soon. To what or where, well, who knows? She has no idea what’s in store in her future, whether or not she’ll even have a future. The Circle of Cavan is still after her, and Cammie and Zach and Bex and Liz and Macey all take their futures into their own hands and… well, you’ll have to read and find out!

The best part about this book was the fact that everyone has grown up. Cammie is an adult now, and she has to make adult decisions. She has to take everything seriously now, because there are no tests anymore. It’s the real world, with real bad guys, and sometimes it’s a matter of life and death. Her gang looks up to her, so Cammie’s choices don’t just affect her, they affect everyone she loves. But she grows to learn that she can handle taking charge, that she can handle anything she sets her mind to do. After all, she is a Gallagher Girl.

“What is a Gallagher Girl?
She’s a genius, a scientist, a heroine, a spy… a Gallagher Girl is whatever she wants to be.”

Catherine, Zach’s mother, is a fascinating villain. I hate her, but I just love how well created her character is. To have her as the mother of Zach… It’s pretty crazy, because she’s pretty crazy. We find out some pretty heavy stuff about her, none of which i ever expected. So be ready for some SHOCKING twists!

And Zach… *sighs dreamily* Well, United We Spy is the most romantic book, in my opinion, of the series. 😉 Cammie and Zach love each other. Their love is solid and still going strong–you know it and you can feel it. Zach is perfect for Cammie, because he sees her, the real her, even though she’s the Chameleon. With these two, you no that no matter what life throws at them, they’ll make it to the end.

I was nearly in tears at the end of the book. Because… it’s over. *cries* The Gallagher Girls series is well and truly over. But the series ends so perfectly well that there’s nothing I wish would change about ending.

If you bought a copy of United We Spy, then you know there’s a special little extra at the back of the book. And OH MY GOD, it is THE. BEST. So go! Buy the book. Read the book. You won’t regret it.

5 hearts! It’s now one of my all-time favorite books ever.

5-hearts

*I WILL NOW COMMENCE MY SPOILERS HERE SO BEWARE*

A Gallagher Wedding! AAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! It was so bloody amazing (channeling my inner Bex here). Even though Cammie’s mother and Mr. Solomon play only a little part in the book, I am just fascinated with them and their relationship. I don’t even know why, but I know I was SO SO happy to read about their wedding.

Plus! Zach! In a tuxedo!! *faints*

*END SPOILER*

One day while watching the Interstate exit for her dad’s long awaited return, Libby’s life is rocked when Peter Jamieson steps off his tour bus and into her life. After a couple chance meetings with Peter, Libby breaks away from her perfect behavior and her life changes course.

Peter longs for normalcy away from the screaming fans who know nothing about the real him. He is amazed to discover Libby has never heard of him or his band. Soon their friendship turns to love. While Peter battles his family’s growing interference so he can spend time with Libby, she struggles with her eccentric aunt who turns more bizarre each day.

Their lives are torn apart when Peter’s family intrudes and Libby disappears. Peter’s desperate search for her comes up empty. Can they find their way back to each other while the world plots against them?

Excerpt

“I have something for you.” He had moved heaven and earth to pull this together.

“You do?” Her eyes glittered in surprise.

“Yup. Close your eyes and hold out your hands.” He couldn’t wait to see what she thought. Libby obeyed. Her dark eyelashes lay against her rosy cheeks. His heart beat in anticipation. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a white plastic bag, then glanced up. Her closed eyes changed to little slits.

“Hey, stop peeking!”

Libby squeezed her eyes closed and laughed. She held out her hands and waited. Peter pulled the slim item out of the bag and placed it in her hands.

“Okay, look.”

She peered at the shiny device and then back at him in disbelief. “You gave me a cell phone?” She stared at the gift. “You gave me a cell phone!” This time she yelled it.

Her excitement touched him. “It seemed like a good idea. You didn’t have a phone number to give me, and I really missed you. It’s gonna get harder to see you. I thought this way we could stay in touch and actually talk whenever we want.”

She closed her hand around the precious phone and turned pensive.

“Is something wrong?” He wondered what could have upset her.

“I don’t know if I should accept this.” She gazed up at him with large doe eyes. He couldn’t believe this. She needed to take the phone.

“We barely know each other, and, well…” Mischief lit her face, and he wondered what she was up to. “We’ve never even kissed.”

Peter paused and took a good look at her. He’d been wondering how to sneak a kiss; she just made it simple.

He tossed the umbrella aside and pulled her close. He let his fingers tangle in her wet hair and lowered his mouth to hers. He kissed her long and slow, taking his sweet time. Cold rain trickled down his neck as he savored each moment. Startled at first, Libby now matched his kiss. He enjoyed each touch of her tender lips.

He slowly pulled away.

“Now can you take the phone?” His forehead rested against hers.

“Yeah, I think so,” she answered in a breathy voice.

“I’d better be sure.” Empowered by their perfect chemistry, he leaned in for more. Her body melted against him. He wrapped his other arm around her and pulled her close.

“Wow,” she whispered, her eyes dark and smoky.

“Haven’t you ever been kissed before?” His eyes searched hers.

“Not like that.”

Snapshot. A moment in time that changes two people forever.

Excerpt

Adam called his brother. Peter picked up on the third ring. “What’s up? What’s lured you away from making candles in the sand? Don’t tell me. Since the girls don’t know who you are, they’ll have nothing to do with you?”

“Not exactly. See, there’s this girl, and…”

“Hey Libby, Adam’s got a girl!” Peter yelled, ignoring Adam.

“Way to go Adam!” Libby called back. “Don’t break her heart.”

Adam shook his head. Calling Peter was probably a mistake.

“So what’s the problem?” Peter asked. “You finally get a girl alone and you don’t know what to do with her?”

Adam rolled his eyes. “No, she has this huge issue with musicians. Let’s just say she hates us all. How do I get her to stop hating me?”

“You know what they say,” Peter said. “There’s a fine line between love and hate.”
