review

I was lucky enough to get an early copy of Hitched, because hello, look at that blurb! Maybe I’m a sucker, but I always end up reading these types of books where the main characters accidentally get married. Hitched wasn’t quite what I expected, but I still enjoyed it. It was sexy, flirty, and fun. Anyone wanting a quick, light-hearted, hot read should definitely check out Hitched!

Our heroine Kacie wakes up hungover and not remember anything from the night before… which means she has no clue how she ended up married to the sexy doctor Sebastian Donovan. Sebastian is literally sex on a stick, and add in the fact that he saves children for a living just makes him a total package. He’d be the perfect guy to end up accidentally married to, right? Well… Kacie’s not exactly looking to get married, not even to her attractive husband. But Sebastian sees the potential the two of them have, and they strike a deal. Kacie will get her annulment if she agrees to spend the entire summer spending time with and getting to know more about Sebastian.

“We’re from two different worlds. It would never work. What could a girl with a business degree who plans bachelor parties possibly have in common with a fucking pediatric heart surgeon?”
He throws his arm over my shoulder. “I don’t know. But there’s no harm in finding out, right?”

And by getting to know Sebastian, I mean Kacie and Sebastian get hot and heavy A LOT. Maybe a little too much, but only because the book isn’t very long. Still, Kacie and Sebastian do start getting to know each other better outside of the bedroom. It’s easy to see that Sebastian loves Kacie, maybe even since the beginning, so Kacie’s the one who holds back between the two of them. She’s not sure how to juggle a blossoming career and marriage. She’s worried she might have to give up one or the other, so she’s afraid to commit to spend her life with Sebastian, no matter how much she wants, and eventually loves, him.

Hitched was short, sweet, and sexy. I didn’t get hooked onto this book as much as I expected, but I definitely enjoyed it. It did get cheesy at times, and things seemed to be too easy for the characters, but I was able to overlook that for the most part. I’d recommend Hitched to anyone in the mood for a fun (and hot) read!

Now here’s an excerpt of Hitched! ❤

excerpt

As I sink into the luxurious heat, my body breathes a sigh of relief. The tension and stress from the last few days drains out of me, and I close my eyes and lean back, enjoying the music, the sips of wine, the calm.

But it doesn’t take long for my mysterious future ex-husband to creep into my mind, undoing my reverie with memories of our torrid night together.

His hotel room had an extra large bath, one we used to full avail.

He undressed me slowly, his long fingers and strong hands caressing my body with each movement as I stood still, breathing deeply, taking in the moment. I stood naked before him while he was still fully clothed, and the disparity between us sent waves of erotic charge through me.

As I pull this memory up and view it like a movie in my mind, my hand dips under the soapy water and between my legs. I spread my labia and tease my clit, slipping a finger inside of me as I remember him doing the same that night.

His hand over my mound, finger exploring my wet center, my pussy aching for more of him. I could see his cock through his slacks, hard and demanding, and I wanted to free him from that constraint, but I also wanted to continue enjoying this moment as he worshiped me with his eyes and explored me with his body.

I rub at my clit, fingering myself as I use my other hand to tease my nipples. I want this to be him touching me, his fingers, his hands, his tongue and mouth. His cock. But I settle for the memories as I bring myself closer to climax.

He knelt in front of me, his mouth positioned at my pussy as he flicked a tongue out and lightly licked my clit. My body shuddered, knees weak as he pushed his tongue deeper into me, fingers digging into my hips, holding me tightly against his mouth. My hands fell to the top of his head, to his thick dark hair as he pleasured me beyond reason. The bath filled with water as I came hard in his mouth. He finally let me undress him, just before lifting me up and placing me in the steaming bath. He got in beside me, then pulled me onto his lap, impaling me on his hard cock.

My wet pussy took him in greedily, eagerly, and our bodies rocked together in the water, his hands exploring my breasts, waist, hips, his fingers finding my sensitive, swollen clit and sending me over the edge again, quickly this time, as I came on his cock.

I’m nearly there, the memory of him inside me tipping the scale as I come to thoughts of him, alone in my bathtub.

And I realize then that getting him out of my mind is not going to be as easy as signing a few papers.

Chase!! We finally get Chase’s book! It’s been a long time coming – this book was one of my most highly anticipated reads of the year and it. was. AMAZING! I utterly adore the Rules of Scoundrels series. It truly is my all-time favorite historical romance series. Sarah MacLean writes characters like no other. Every time I open one of her books, I’m completely absorbed and invested in every page. I’ve reread this series countless times, and I know I’ll pick up these books again.

Ever since I read A Rogue by Any Other Name, Chase has held my intrigue. As the founder of The Fallen Angel, Chase is powerful yet mysterious. But now in Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover, we finally get to uncover Chase’s secrets. (And Sarah MacLean seriously knows how to surprise her readers.)

If you have NOT read No Good Duke Goes Unpunished yet, PLEASE don’t read on. There will be a GIANT SPOILER for Never Judge a Lady!! TRUST ME, you don’t want to be spoiled. I can honestly say that I’ve never been so shocked and surprised by book as I have for No Good Duke… for this whole series!

Because… Chase is a woman. Chase is in fact, Lady Georgiana Pearson, daughter of a duke. My reaction? …Hell yes!! Girl power for the win. I do admit I felt a slight disappointment that Chase wasn’t a man because I had imagined Chase to be the best of all four men. But I got over it pretty quickly. Because guess what? Georgiana is one hell of a woman. She’s tough, loyal, and so protective over those she cares about.

Temple’s black brows rose. “It never fails to surprise me just how ruthless you can be.”
She smiled her sweetest smile at him. “Never trust a woman.”
He laughed. “Not you, at least.”

Now, the hero? He had to be someone intelligent, someone who could keep up with Chase, with Georgiana, step by step. And Duncan West was really the perfect man for her. Duncan and Georgiana have a fiery chemistry between, but there’s also an intense, sexy battle of wits. They’ve never been stronger or more vulnerable than they have when they’re together. I loved seeing them fall for each other, these two fiercely independent people falling when they least expected it.

And yes, this book is HOT. Georgiana and Duncan (oh god, DUNCAN) were ON FIRE in this book. Never Judge a Lady is the hottest book of the series, in my opinion. It was that burn, that tension between the characters when they wanted but couldn’t have each other. And I never expected it, but oh my word, Duncan is truly a scoundrel in this book. Loooved the sexy times in the book.

“Would you like that?” he whispered, “Would you like it if I took control of your pleasure? If I wrapped you in it? If I gave it to you over and over, until you could not bear it? Until you ached for my touch about all others?”

(Do you see!? Duncan had me burning up while I was reading!)

Unfortunately, as Chase cannot be revealed as a woman, secrets and lies build up. Georgiana and Duncan belong together, but their lies threaten to tear them apart. They can’t love each other, but they fall so hard anyway. I’m going to keep hush hush about the plot – Chase being a woman is only one of many secrets. What I will say is that there was never a dull moment in this book. I pretty much devoured this book as soon as I got it. I honestly couldn’t be happier with Chase’s book. I loved it!

4.5 hearts! Cross will always be my favorite of the four, but Chase’s is a close second. Because – Duncan! Georgiana! Epicness!

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author returns with a sizzling novel of love, loss, guilt, and forgiveness.

When Grey and Ben fell in love at thirteen, they believed they’d be together forever. They never dreamed that three days before their wedding, twenty-year-old Ben would suddenly die from an unknown heart condition, destroying his would-be-bride’s world. Grey would have spent the next two years simply going through the motions if it hadn’t been for their best friend, Jagger. He’s the only one who understands her pain … the only one who knows what it’s like to force yourself to keep moving when your dreams are shattered.

While everyone else worries over Grey’s fragility, Jagger is the only one who sees her strength, and vows to always be there for her-even if it’s only as her best friend. As much as he wants Grey, he knows her heart will always be with Ben. But when Grey finds out that Jagger has loved her since before he even knew what love was, it might prove to be too much for her to handle.

Grey soon realizes their chemistry is undeniable, and they learn that admitting their feelings for each other means they’ve got to face the past. Is being together what Ben would have wanted . . . or a betrayal of his memory that will eventually destroy them both?

Oh, wow. This book completely took me by surprise, and I loved it. It was the perfectly angsty read – not too much that it was excessive, but just enough to have me aching for the characters to get a happily ever after they deserved. I grew to care for Grey and Jagger. Theirs is a story about losing a loved one, but letting go and moving on all the while finding love again.

“Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It’s accepting, forgiving, and being emotionally ready to keep moving.”

Grey and Ben had the type of romance people dream about – they were childhood best friends, they loved each other since they were young, they were going to get married – until everything changes when Ben unexpectedly dies right before their wedding. Grey is devastated, and the one person who can pick up the pieces of her heart and soul is Jagger. Jagger, was also Ben and Grey’s best friend… Jagger, who has always been in love with Grey.

Jagger has been the one constant Grey has been relying on the two years after Ben’s death. She’s not over his death, but she’s slowly moving forward, which she could never have done without Jagger. Jagger is just happy the girl he loves is slowly healing, even if she has to take it day by day. He doesn’t need her to love him back, he doesn’t need her to know he’s in love with her – he’s content to be there by her side. But everything changes when Grey finds out Jagger is in love with her.

“I love you. I’m pretty sure I’ve been in love with you since we were nine, Grey,” he admitted. “I always felt like you were mine . . . I was in love with you long before I knew what it actually meant to be in love with someone.”

Jagger is literally the sweetest hero I’ve ever read. He makes my heart hurt with how much he loves Grey, how much he’ll do anything for her. He really is the perfect hero for Grey: he’s patient, loving, understanding, kind. He doesn’t push Grey to love him back; he’ll accept anything she’s willing to give.

As Grey reconciles how she’ll love anyone after Ben, she comes to realize that she’s been in love with Jagger for a while. Somewhere along the way, she fell for him, but she feels like she’s betraying Ben for falling for his best friend. It’s tough seeing the anguish going through both Grey and Jagger, but Molly McAdams writes them in the most realistic way as possible. I never once felt the story was too unbelievable or fake. I was able to feel Jagger and Grey’s love for each other, a thing that could never be considered wrong or a betrayal. These two were always meant to be together.

There’s so much heartbreak for Grey and Jagger, but they come out stronger in the end. Letting Go is a heartwarming romance that shows that you can find love even after the most devastating of circumstances. It’s an emotionally exhausting read, but I’m glad I had the chance to read Grey and Jagger’s beautiful story.

Release Day Review: Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren

Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren

Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren
Series: Wild Seasons #2 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: November 4th 2014
Links: Ebook • Paperback • Audible • Goodreads
Source: I received a copy from the publisher (Gallery Books) in exchange for an honest review

From the New York Times bestselling author of Beautiful Bastard, Beautiful Stranger, and Beautiful Player, Book Two of the brand-new Wild Seasons series that started with Sweet Filthy Boy—a story of friends, love, and lust.

Despite their rowdy hookups, Harlow and Finn don’t even like each other…which would explain why their marriage lasted only twelve hours. He needs to be in charge and takes whatever he wants. She lives by the Want-something-done? Do-it-yourself mantra. Maybe she’s too similar to the rugged fisherman—or just what he needs.

I’m smiling so much!! God, how I adored Harlow and Finn. I had such high expectation for Dirty Rowdy Thing because I absolutely LOVED Sweet Filthy Boy (my review). Now that I’ve read this book, I can say that I am so thrilled to have experienced Harlow and Finn’s story.

We know from Sweet Filthy Boy that Harlow and Finn got, well, married in Vegas. But unlike their friends Mia and Ansel, Harlow and Finn annulled their marriage. They hooked up, had some hot sex, got married, got divorced, and that was the end of that. Or was it?

Finn and Harlow know that don’t have much of a future together – Finn lives up in Canada, Harlow lives down in San Diego; Finn is a fisherman whose job supports his entire family, Harlow doesn’t really have a set job or career. They are two completely different people, and yet when they’re together, none of that matters. I loved Finn and Harlow’s relationship – or more specifically, the changing dynamics of their relationship. They start off, well, on the wrong foot. They are pretty much jerks to one another, using each other for sex. But eventually, feelings get involved and they start falling for the person they ended up marrying all along.

Harlow is the outgoing type of girl. She’s fun, hilarious, loud, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. I adored this girl. I had so much fun reading her thoughts, her narrative. She has a huge heart and she’s incredibly loyal – to her friends, family, those she loves. Aaaand… you can totally tell how much she wants to hate Finn, but can’t. She doesn’t exactly like him in the beginning though.

Finn Roberts, the only guy who ever managed to dodge my convenient guy-category strategy—Finn Roberts, the notorious ex-husband-of-twelve-drunken-hours-in-Vegas, who was good with hands, lips, and body, and who made me come so many times he told me he thought I passed out.
Finn Roberts, who turned out to be an asshole, too.

When Finn comes down to San Diego for business reasons, sparks fly. Finn and Harlow inevitably see each other, and they can’t keep their hands off each other. They use one another to distract themselves from their worries and to escape reality for just a little while. It’s when it seems like there could be something more between them that they decide they should become friends instead, but that doesn’t exactly work out too well…

What I loved about Dirty Rowdy Thing was how much both Finn and Harlow changed because of each other. They learned something from each other – their preconceptions of each other were wrong, and they learned to see who the other person really is. They do hide things from each other – they don’t want each other to know their vulnerabilities, but when they do share parts of themselves that no one else knows, it’s easy for them to fall in love. They fall fast and they fall hard for the one person they can be themselves with.

He could only do rowdy because he felt what I felt: that whip-crack unleashing that comes when you meet the person who frees you.

Oh gosh, I freaking adore Christina Lauren’s writing. And thank god for dual narrative!! I loved being in both Harlow and Finn’s heads. And I ADORED the banter between them. Every conversation had me smiling and giggling. As much as I loved Finn, I do have to admit that I still love Ansel the most 😉 (Although that could totally change once I read Oliver’s book.) Finn was still ridiculously hot though. The pages in this book were ON. FIRE. Oh my god, the things that Finn says and does. I totally did NOT expect him to be the way he was, but I LOVED it. One sexy, hunky fisherman for me please!

Dirty Rowdy Thing was just so much FUN to read. It has an unforgettable cast of characters who will have you smiling so much. I wholeheartedly adored everything about this book!

Early Review: Last Light by M. Pierce

Last Light by M. Pierce

Last Light by M. Pierce
Series: The Night Owl Trilogy #2 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: October 28th 2014
Purchase: Ebook • Paperback
Source: I received an ARC from the publisher (St. Martin’s Griffin) in exchange for an honest review

Tensions rise, secrets grow bigger, and passions run deeper—and hotter—in Last Light, the second novel of the Night Owl Trilogy from bestselling author M. Pierce.

Matt Sky is missing. After a solo ascent of Longs Peak that left only a large blood stain, tatters of climbing clothing, and the tracks of an animal in the snow, he is presumed dead.

Hannah Catalano is guarding a secret: she knows Matt is alive. After Matt’s memorial service, she lingers on the East Coast with his family, but it soon becomes clear that his brothers’ motives are less than gracious. Nate Sky is bent on tracking down the author of Night Owl, a book that charts the last days of Matt’s life with uncanny and scandalous accuracy, and which appeared only after his death. Seth Sky is bent on getting Hannah into his bed.

Hidden away in the woods, Matt and Hannah strive desperately to maintain their ruse and their relationship—but their web of lies only tightens as Matt struggles with the consequences of his decision, and Hannah tries to escape Nate’s libel suit and fend off Seth’s advances…until Hannah is put in danger, and Matt must make a life or death choice.

Eeep!!! I am just SO happy with Last Light. I honestly had no idea what direction the author would take Matt and Hannah (I mean just look at that blurb!), but I’m really glad overall with the way things went. Last Light is an exceptionally well-written second book in the Night Owl trilogy. Usually, second books seem to be mostly filler, but this one really fleshed out Matt and Hannah’s relationship. For the fans of Night Owl – Last Light is a heart-pounding, hot and dirty sequel that you don’t want to miss!

At the end of Night Owl, Matt has lost all sense of anonymity – his privacy, the thing he values most above all others, is obliterated. And then that WTF epilogue: Matt Sky is dead… except he’s not? The world seems to the think Matt, otherwise known as the famous author, M. Pierce, has died, but Hannah knows differently. She knows differently because she and Matt have concocted a plan to make the world believe Matt died – and it works. But now that they’re living a life of lies and deceit, can their relationship survive?

“I want to be with you. I want to be inside you. For hours. Here, by the fire. I need you like that . . .”

There are only two things Matt needs in life: to be able to write in peace and Hannah. There is no doubt about Matt and Hannah’s chemistry – they’ve got it in spades. If anything, it seemed like they were even hotter in Last Light, because they don’t get to be around each other all the time, with Matt in hiding and Hannah having to pretend Matt is dead. Hannah and Matt are living separately and they can’t be together or have sex whenever they want, which just amps up the sexual tension between them. But when the weekends come and they can finally get together, holy hell….

Matt’s desire seemed to suck the sound out of the room, and the breath out of my body. And he was only staring. I peeked at him through my lashes.
The look I found on his face is with me forever. It was need mingled with satisfaction. A hunger in his eyes, a thin smile on his lips.
Matt wanted me, and Matt already had me. I was his.

I’m not sure if it’s because it’s been a while since I’ve read Night Owl and I’ve forgotten how Matt is, but Matt… is even DIRTIER in Last Light!? Like holy shit, the things he says in this book. It’s hot, dirty, raunchy, sexy, scandalous – it’s like all this buildup from not being able to fuck and make love to Hannah explodes. And I definitely loved it. 😉

There is considerably less sex in Last Light than in Night Owl, but I liked it more that way. Not because I don’t like the sex (trust me, I really, really do) but because it was good to see the dynamics of Hannah and Matt’s relationship without so much sex. I needed to see a change, a development in their relationship, and I got that in Last Light.

Besides Matt being dead to the world, there is also the fact that Night Owl got published. Night Owl, the book that Matt secretly wrote about his and Hannah’s love story and had no intention of publishing. And we also get to see more of Matt’s brothers, Nate and Seth. Nate is the good doctor that Hannah can lean on, while Seth is the complete opposite. Seth is wild and tempting, and I loved his character, even though he’s an obstacle in Matt and Hannah’s relationship.

Matt isn’t exactly a good guy in this book either. He’s keeping secrets from Hannah, telling her lies, all because he wants her to be with him. But how can a relationship based on lies ever work? I love Matt, but I wanted to throttle him so much – he’s pretty childish at times. I wanted him to grow up and see that his actions have consequences not only to him but to the people around him. Last Light is definitely a book that had my emotions running all over the place.

Last Light was just so. good. It was nothing I expected and everything I grew to enjoy. And there’s SO MUCH going on! My heart was racing between Matt’s fake death, Night Owl getting published, and Nate and Seth. There’s not a dull moment in Last Light, and now I can’t freaking WAIT for After Dark!

“Always,” he whispered. “You feel it, to, don’t you? You always want me, I always want you. We belong together, Hannah.”
