College drop-out, Roxy Cumberland, moved to New York with dreams of becoming an actress, but her dwindling bank account is quickly putting the kibosh on that fantasy. To make some quick cash, she signs up to perform singing telegrams. Her first customer is a gorgeous, cocky Manhattan trust-funder if she ever laid eyes on one. And what could be more humiliating than singing an ode to his junk, courtesy of his last one night stand? Maybe the fact that she’s dressed in a giant, pink bunny costume…

After a night out to celebrate winning his last case, lawyer Louis McNally II isn’t prepared for the pounding in his head or the rabbit serenading him from the front door. But the sassy wit and sexy voice of the girl behind the mask intrigues him, and one look at her stunning face—followed by a mind-blowing kiss against his doorjamb—leaves Louis wanting more.

Roxy doesn’t need a spoiled rich boy who’s had everything in life handed to him on a Tiffany platter. But there’s more to Louis than his sexy surface and he’s determined to make Roxy see it…even if it means chasing her all over NYC.

Tessa Bailey is one of my FAVORITE authors ever – NO ONE can do dirty talking, alpha-male heroes like she can!!! So OF COURSE I was so excited to read Chase Me, the first book in her new Broke and Beautiful series. And yes, it’s another winner! Hilarious, witty, sexy, and so much fun, Chase Me is a book you won’t want to miss!

Chase Me is a new adult book, so it’s got a different feel than Tessa’s adult books. What stands out about this book? The. Humor. Oh my god, I was laughing so, so much while I was reading this. All of the characters are hilarious and endearing – I adored them all! The humor in this book made it so easy to like the characters and enjoy the story. I was practically giggling throughout the entire book. You honestly can’t read this book without a grin on your face.

Roxy, the heroine, is an aspiring actress, but she’s running low on money. She decides to make some quick cash by performing singing telegrams, and her first client is a hot, sexy lawyer named Louis.

Her sarcastic thought bubble burst over her head when the door swung open, revealing a guy. A hot-as-hell guy. A naked-except-for-unbuttoned-jeans guy. Being the shameless hussy she was, her gaze immediately dipped to his happy trail, although, on this guy, it really should have been called a rapture path. It started just beneath his belly button, which sat at the bottom of beautifully defined ab muscles. But they weren’t the kind of abs honed from hours in the gym. No, they were natural, I-do-sit-ups-when-I-damn-well-feel-like-it abs. Approachable abs. The kind you could either lick or snuggle up against, depending on your mood.

Ooooh, the second Louis showed up, I totally loved him and his approachable abs. He’s got that charming, easy-going personality that meshes perfectly well with his giant sex appeal. Louis and Roxy are instantly attracted to one another but even though they have the best kiss of their lives, their first meeting doesn’t exactly end with great first impressions. But neither of them can get the other out of their mind…

There had been one weak moment in the shower this morning when he’d considered trying to re-create the kiss with the back of his hand. It had been a damn close call.

Louis is determined to find Roxy again and make her give them a chance. Roxy is a lot less eager to form any kind of relationship with him – she doesn’t even like getting close to people in general. Despite Roxy being a closed-off person, I adored her character. She’s just so fun, relatable, and hilarious. Her determination to be an actress is admirable too. She tries to resist Louis, but when they’re together, they give off massive amounts of sexual tension… and when they finally come together, it’s EXPLOSIVE.

“I was going to use my mouth on you the first time. How dare you take that away from me. … How dare you drive me so out of my mind that I have to pound you against a fucking file cabinet.”

GAH. As hilarious as this book is, it’s also SMOKIN’ HOT (which is the perfect combination, if you ask me)! If you’re wondering whether there’ll be the usual Tessa Bailey heat in this book since it’s new adult, you don’t have to worry. You’ll be fanning whenever Roxy and Louis get together.

I loved the way Louis and Roxy’s relationship grew, though they do have some bumps along the way. I adored their witty banter, their hot chemistry, and their sweet moments. I honestly enjoyed their story so much. And what makes their story even better are the secondary characters! Roxy gains two new roommates, Honey and Abby, who manage to also worm their way into her heart. We meet Louis’s two best friends, Ben and Russell, who had me in stitches, I was laughing so hard. The next book in the series will be about Ben and Honey – their book CANNOT get here quick enough!

I adored Chase Me. This book is pure FUN. I highly recommend this funny, sexy, light-hearted novel.

Review: Confess by Colleen Hoover

Confess by Colleen Hoover

Confess by Colleen Hoover
Series: Standalone
Publication Date: March 10th 2015
Links: Ebook • Paperback • Audible • Goodreads

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

Colleen Hoover is, without a doubt, my top favorite author of all time. I’ve loved every book she’s ever published. She just has this way of writing these unique, heartfelt, romantic, utterly captivating novels that rip your heart out and stomp on it and then mend it back together. So yeah, her books aren’t exactly easy on the heart to read, but that’s why I love them. She creates characters that are so achingly flawed but real, who you can’t help but love and adore. Her writing is impeccable as always. And I’m happy to say Confess is another win from Colleen Hoover! I honestly don’t think there’s a book she can write that I won’t love. Confess is a beautiful, heartwarming, magical book I wholeheartedly enjoyed.

“They’re all confessions,” I say in awe. “Are these from actual people? People you know?”
He shakes his head and motions toward the front door. “They’re all anonymous. People leave their confessions in the slot over there, and I use some of them as inspiration for my art.”

Okay, first off, I am just so in awe of how Colleen Hoover is able to think up such unique, mind-blowing, twist-y storylines. Every time I pick up a CoHo book, I finish thinking, “This is why she’s the author and I’m the reader.” With Confess, we have a hero who creates art based on confessions. The confessions themselves take a life of their own in this book. Some are gut-wrenching, others are heartwarming, but each and every one of them is painstakingly real, because they ARE real. Right before the prologue, the author notes that the confessions are “true confessions, submitted anonymously by readers.” Basically, before the book even starts, Colleen Hoover already has me intrigued, and she manages to keep me hooked throughout the rest of the book.

I could tell her how I know her. Make her realize why I have this overwhelming urge to protect her. But some secrets I’ll take to my grave, and this is definitely one of them.

Auburn Reed has just moved to Texas and is in desperate need of a job. Coincidently, she sees a “Help Wanted” sign at a place called Confess. It’s there she meets Confess’s owner Owen Mason Gentry (OMG – is that not the cutest thing ever?) for the first time, though we know from Owen’s POV that it’s not the first time Owen has met Auburn. I loved how multi-faceted Auburn and Owen are. On the surface, Auburn is the kind of girl who is introverted and doesn’t open up to people. Owen is funny, sweet, and a little boyish and charming. But as we read more, we also delve deeper into their characters, and they become all the more interesting. Both are holding secrets, Owen more so than Auburn, and I was absolutely riveted to this book as they open up and their secrets are slowly revealed.

Some secrets should never turn into confessions. I know that better than anyone.

There’s a fierce, undeniable connection Auburn and Owen both feel and can’t deny, but as much as they want a relationship, it’s too complicated as they get caught up in between the truth and lies. Hearts get broken and it gets even more difficult for them to be together, no matter how PERFECT they are for each other. And they really are meant to be together. This book was a roller coaster of emotions – I was giggly and so happy for Owen and Auburn when they’re together, because they make the sweetest and most adorable couple ever; and then I was so heartbroken over the unfavorable circumstances they were in. God, Colleen Hoover really made my heart hurt for the both of them.

“Sometimes we don’t get second chances, Owen. Sometime things just end.”

I confess (hehe) that this isn’t my new favorite of Colleen Hoover’s – the plot does drag on for a bit in the middle of the book, which was frustrating – but nonetheless, it was an absolute delight to read. It is gorgeously written, and the characters are portrayed so honestly and endearingly. And as many heartbreaking moments there are in this book, there are also so many beautiful, tender moments between Owen and Auburn that make you sigh and go Aawwww. I freaking adored this book! Reading Confess has only cemented my love for Colleen Hoover – she really can write anything and I won’t hesitate to read it. Everyone needs to read Confess!

My mother says there are people you meet and get to know, and then there are people you meet and already know. I feel like Owen is the latter.

4.5 (OMG I love this book) hearts!

Early Review: Rock Hard by Nalini Singh

Rock Hard by Nalini Singh

Rock Hard by Nalini Singh
Series: Rock Kiss #2 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: March 10th 2015

Source: I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

In New York Times Bestselling author Nalini Singh’s newest contemporary romance, passion ignites between a gorgeous, sinfully sexy man who built himself up from nothing and a shy woman who has a terrible secret in her past…

Wealthy businessman Gabriel Bishop rules the boardroom with the same determination and ruthlessness that made him a rock star on the rugby field. He knows what he wants, and he’ll go after it no-holds-barred.

And what he wants is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte knows she’s a mouse. Emotionally scarred and painfully shy, she just wants to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But the new CEO—a brilliant, broad-shouldered T-Rex of a man who growls and storms through the office, leaving carnage in his wake—clearly has other plans. Plans that may be equal parts business and bedroom.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

I have been DYING to read this book – Charlotte and T-Rex’s story – since I read Rock Addiction! I was fascinated by what Charlotte told Molly about her big, sexy, ferocious, tempting boss. Now we finally get the full story! And I’m so happy we did. Rock Hard is a sweet, heartwarming, captivating book that fans of the series won’t want to miss.

He really was a T-Rex, stomping through the company, chewing up people and spitting them out left, right, and center. But the T-Rex wasn’t looking Charlotte’s way, and that was fine with her. She’d just be a quiet, industrious little mouse in the corner, not worth bothering with but too useful to fire.
Then the carnivorous creature decided to notice her.

I think it’s so freaking adorable how Nalini Singh likens Charlotte to a shy mouse and Gabriel to a T-Rex. This heightens how very different they are, which made me all the more desperate for them to get together. Opposites attract? Hell yes! There is a serious, simmering chemistry between Charlotte and her new boss, though Charlotte is way too shy to even make sense of it. Her new boss is intimidating, but in that way-too-sexy, out-of-her-league kind of way. When Gabriel makes Charlotte his personal assistant and they spend more time in close proximity, the tension between them only gets tauter. And it’s only a matter of time before it snaps.

“Come on, Ms. Baird. I promised early on that I wouldn’t bite.” A slow smile. “Unless you make the request, of course.”

Rock Hard is so much more than just a typical office romance between an assistant and her boss. For one thing, Charlotte is incredibly shy. Normally, I wouldn’t be a fan of reading about a heroine who is this shy, but somehow, Charlotte’s character worked for me. It did take me a while to warm up to her, but as we delve deeper into Charlotte’s character, we see the scars from her past that have left her untrusting of other people. My heart went out to Charlotte for the pain she’d been through, and I found myself rooting for her to win the battle against her past. But it’s only with Gabriel that she truly begins to heal. With Gabriel, Charlotte becomes a spitfire, awesome and fierce, qualities she thought she’d never recover. Gabriel makes her feel safe, and how can you not love that about the man?

“I’m right here if you need me, and I’m more than big enough to help you fight your demons. Just say the word.”

Gabriel wants Charlotte – bad. This sexy hunk of a man is determined to win Charlotte, body, mind, and soul. And oh. my. goodness. Gabriel is so delicious and swoon-worthy! He’s a powerhouse in the office as well as in the bedroom, and I loved the way he awakens Charlotte’s sexuality. I was blushing alongside Charlotte sometimes from the things he says!

As deliciously sexy as Gabriel is, I also loved how sweet and patient he is with Charlotte. He can tell she was hurt in her past, so he’s extra protective of her. The romance is slow-going but no less intense. Charlotte’s scars need to be handled delicately, and Gabriel is more than happy to oblige. I was swept away by their sweet, deeply emotional romance. The perfect combination of sexy and intense, and slow and heartwarming, Rock Hard has the the kind of romance that feels very real and genuine – I highly enjoyed Charlotte and Gabriel’s book!

A little side note: Rock Hard can be read purely as a standalone novel. The glimpses that we saw from Rock Addiction are more fully told in Rock Hard, so there’s no need to read the previous book (although I’d still recommend it – it’s a great book!).

Welcome to today’s stop on the blog tour for Hearts of Fire! We have Jack and Lille here with us on the blog for a character interview! Make sure to check out my review, an excerpt, and a giveaway below!

Character Interview: Jack & Lille from Hearts of Fire

Lille and Jack, thank you so much for being here today!
Jack, can you tell us about what you do in the circus?

I’m a fire breather and knife-thrower. Come and see for yourself.

Jack, how did you become a fire-breather?

In my teens I became fascinated with fire and burning. One day I saw a guy on the street eating fire and thought, I could do that. I began researching and learning everything that I could and a year later I was the guy on the street, performing fire tricks for passers-by.

Lille and Jack, what’s the first thing you think of when I say the word “circus”?

Jack: *grumbles* Hard work.
Lille: Elephants!

What are your guys’ favorite thing about the circus? Your favorite acts?

Jack: The freedom of travel. I like the lions.
Lille: Getting to see new places and new people every week. My favourite act is Jack’s, of course *blushes*

Lille, what’s something interesting you’ve learned since joining the circus?

I’ve learned that a gigantic tent can be built overnight. Like seriously, I’m still amazed at how quickly it gets done. I’ve also learned that travel broadens the mind.

Lille and Jack, how do you two feel about falling in love?

Lille: It’s pretty simple. I love being in love.
Jack: *gives Lille an affectionate look* What she said.

What were your first thoughts when you were falling in love with each other?

Lille: This is scary and wonderful.
Jack: I’m falling for her and she’s too good for me.

Do you have any regrets in your life?

Lille: Not running away with the circus sooner!
Jack: Believing lies. Not having faith in my brother.

Where do you see yourselves in ten years?

Lille: Anywhere. Everywhere. With Jack.
Jack: *drapes an arm around Lille* Maybe in a little house in the mountains with a couple of dogs.

And lastly, how would you two describe your relationship?

Jack: Peaceful. Exhilarating. Mine.
Lille: *looks to Jack and smiles* What he said.

Thank you so much for the interview!

The Circus Spektakulär is proud to present Jack McCabe: Fire-breather, knife-thrower, risk-taker.

My uncle lied. I never died.

I breathe fire, eat the poison that almost killed me.

Crowds come to see me night after night. Men for the spectacle, women for the thrill. I’m an oddity to be stared at and desired. With each flame I spit, I risk my life.

I wear scars on my body that will never go away, but the scars inside my head are far more difficult to overlook.

My brother doesn’t know the truth, and if I have it my way, he never will.

Life was going exactly the way I’d planned until Lille came along. She wanted to run away with the circus, have an adventure, but this world was never meant for her.

I try to keep her safe, because she doesn’t know the dangers that are out here on the road. She doesn’t know the monsters that lurk behind the bright lights of the ring. In truth, I could be considered one of them.

We were fashioned from different cloths, never intended to mix. So I watch her. I try not to touch, even when her eyes invite me.

Join us in the Spiegeltent and let us give you a show. Allow my Lille to draw a picture for you in paint and sweat and skin.

The truest love is always the hardest to let in.

Having read Six of Hearts (which you don’t need to read prior to Hearts of Fire, but I highly recommend it!), I’ve been so excited for Jay’s brother Jack’s book! Jack was previously presumed dead, but obviously, he’s not… And his story was an absolute delight to read! I adored Jack and Lille’s story – it’s a heartwarming, engaging, fun read that everyone should enjoy.

Lille is a girl who wants… more in life. She’s always followed the rules, her mother’s rules to be exact, but she wants an adventure. She wants to experience everything there is in life, and her once-in-a-lifetime opportunity comes in the form of the circus.

After all, there’s no point to an adventure if safety is guaranteed. The whole purpose is the unknown, the danger.
I craved it more than anything.

When Lille joins the circus, it’s a whole new world for her. She’s meeting new people, seeing new things,  visiting new places, and most importantly, she’s having the adventure of her life. But there’s one little hiccup in her adventure – Jack McCabe. He doesn’t want Lille to join the circus for some reason, so he’s a jerk to her. But Lille won’t let anything dampen her adventure, not even sexy, moody Jack.

Jack was a character I had a hard time warming up to, but then found myself loving by the end of the novel. He’s a jerk in the beginning, yes, but he’s a jerk with a lot of hero potential. And when he starts showing that potential, by protecting Lille, caring for her, that’s when I started loving him. I absolutely adored how Jack and Lille were together – they have a hot chemistry, but they’re also so sweet and adorable together!

“You smell like me. Do you know how much that drives me crazy? God, you’re perfect, too perfect. You make me feel so wretched. I want to consume you, steal your light and make myself a little bit more. You’re more, Lille. I want to be more, too.”

There’s so much heart in this novel. First with Lille and Jack’s wonderful romance, and then with Jack’s past and his relationship with his brother Jay. We find out Jack’s side of the story, and my heart broke for him. He hasn’t had the best life, but the way he came out stronger in the end is so admirable. He’s a character that’s just so intriguing and unique, and I love that he’s a fire-breather in the circus!

If you’re a fan of Six of Hearts or anything circus related, you definitely don’t want to miss this book! The romance will sweep you away and the circus life is riveting to read. When I first started this book, I wasn’t too into it, but soon enough, I found myself unable to stop reading. When I read more about Lille, Jack, and the circus, I got hooked – this is definitely a book I can highly recommend!

Now here’s an excerpt from Hearts of Fire! ❤

Somebody swore profusely from behind me, and I turned to find Jack trying to light a cigarette. The wind wasn’t doing him any favours, and he couldn’t get the flame to stay lit. Not wanting him to see me, I began walking swiftly in the opposite direction. I didn’t get far when he was suddenly behind me. He looped his finger through my belt and practically dragged me to the corner he’d been standing in.

“What the fu….”

“Stay still,” he ordered. “I need you to block the wind.”

I didn’t have any snappy comebacks, so I simply stood there, amazed by his gruffness. Hadn’t anyone ever taught him simple manners? When I looked at him, I thought that maybe they hadn’t. I could easily imagine him as a little Mowgli type, being raised by animals in the jungle.

He flicked the lighter and finally got the smoke lit. Inhaling deeply, then exhaling, he watched me all the while. I shivered, and not from the cold. I felt like there was an atmosphere between us, but it was more than likely all on my end. I was good at imagining things, especially sexual tension. And I was well-acquainted with the one-sided kind.

“Are my services required further, sir?” I asked with a hint of sass. I mean, I’d been his wind-blocker, and he hadn’t even said thanks.

Just like last night, he almost smiled, and I hated that it was wondrous. I could have painted an entire mural of his jaw line alone. He flicked off the ash and leaned back against the wall behind him.

“So, you’re staying with Lola?”

“Yes, and Violet.”

“That’ll be fun.”

“Are you being sarcastic?”

“Are you?”

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“You’re weird.”

He took a step forward and stared down at me, teeth flashing as he spoke. “And I bet I could make you like it.”

Release Day Review: Stealing Rose by Monica Murphy

Stealing Rose by Monica Murphy

Stealing Rose by Monica Murphy
Series: The Fowler Sisters #2 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: March 3rd 2015
Purchase: EbookPaperback • Audible • Goodreads
Source: I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Emma Chase—the second novel in New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy’s sizzling series about three powerhouse sisters and the men who would have their hearts.

People say the youngest child has it easy, but nothing can be further from the truth. Unlike my two sisters, Violet and Lily, I’m never in the limelight. I just work my butt off for Fleur Cosmetics and get little to no thanks for it. I’ve been pushed too far one too many times, and I’m finally brave enough to do something about it.

Maybe my newfound courage has something to do with the amazing pink and white diamond necklace I wear to the party in Cannes. The instant those dazzling heirloom jewels touch my skin, they excite some deep, aching need inside. And when that guy—that totally gorgeous guy—locks eyes with me, I know this nice girl is going to be naughty.

For once it’s my turn. My turn to say no to my father, to outshine my sisters, to walk away from it all—straight into the arms of a mysterious stranger. But what if Caden is much more than I bargained for? Sure, he makes me feel sexy and free in a way I never have before, but there’s something else I can’t quite place—something dangerous. Maybe our “chance” meeting wasn’t so random. Maybe he was looking for me for a reason. Whatever his motive, there’s no going back now.

And maybe I don’t want to.

I highly enjoyed the first book of The Fowler Sisters series, so of course I was looking forward to Rose’s book! Unfortunately, Stealing Rose fell a bit flat for me. I definitely didn’t enjoy Rose’s book as much as I did Violet’s. I had a hard time liking or connecting with the main characters, and though the plot held potential, because I didn’t like the characters, the story just wasn’t working for me. My heart just wasn’t into this book, sadly. It mostly an okay read – though if you’re a fan of Owning Violet, I still think you should give Stealing Rose a try. You might like it more than I did.

I don’t measure up. I’m in Lily’s and Violet’s shadows and I hate it. The biggest obstacle I’ve ever had to overcome is being their baby sister. They’ll always be ahead of me, no matter what I do or what I say.
Being the youngest sucks.

Rose is the youngest of the three Fowler sisters, and she’s the sister that’s always overlooked. She doesn’t feel appreciated at her job at Fleur Cosmetics – she’s a hard worker, but no one, not even her father, the head of the company, notices. And when her father is promoting his nasty bitch of a girlfriend instead of Rose, Rose decides to say fuck it, resign, and take some time to herself.

Caden Kingsley is a thief. He cons and steals from the rich to help support himself and his mother after his late father left them destitute. He’s good at what he does, even though he’s not exactly proud of it – he’s a criminal, plain and simple. When Caden and Rose meet for the first time, Caden is aiming to steal a necklace of hers, but he never expects to feel a connection with her. He decides to pursue her, but he can’t have both the necklace and the girl. So which would he choose?

For once, I want to stick. I want to live a real life, not some constant con game. I want to be real with Rose. And if that means sometimes it gets ugly, and sometimes I’m scared, mad, sad, or whatever-the-hell emotion I’m struggling with, I still want to do it.
So I’ve got to fight for it. Own it. Own me. Own her.
Own us.

It’s a whirlwind romance for Rose and Caden, though Caden is keeping what he does a secret. He’s no longer entirely sure about his ‘career’ as a thief. It threatens what he has with Rose, and he has to decide whether he can give up his life as a thief for something that could turn into so much more.

You stole my heart, Ro. I may be the professional, but with us, you’re the thief. You reached right into my chest and took my heart like it fully belonged to you. And I think it does.

Stealing Rose had tons and TONS of sex! Oh my lord, Caden and Rose no doubt heat up the pages, but sometimes it felt a bit too excessive. In this case, I would have rather had more character and story development than sex. This was mainly why I didn’t grow to care for Rose or Caden – all they did was have sex. The romance just didn’t feel like it grew in a genuine way. I didn’t understand how these two fell in love with each other. As for the characters themselves, Rose didn’t feel strong enough to me – the development with her and her father/job wasn’t too clear, and it felt rushed at the end. I liked Caden a little better, with the way he wanted to change into a better man for Rose.

I wasn’t a fan of Rose or Caden, but that didn’t entirely ruin the book. I enjoyed it well enough. Caden was redeeming at the end, which ended the book on a much better note. If you’re a fan of a hot and steamy book with an intriguing storyline, you might enjoy Stealing Rose more than I did.
