Raised as a prototype for the Georgian Bratva’s obedience drug, 221 fails to think, act, or live for himself; he’s his master’s perfectly-crafted killing puppet. Standing at six-foot-six, weighing two-hundred-and-fifty pounds, and unrivaled in to-the-death combat, 221 successfully secures business for the Georgian Mafiya Boss of NYC, who rules the dark world of the criminal underground. Until his enemies capture him.

Talia Tolstaia dreams to break from the heavy clutches of Bratva life. She dreams of another life–away from the stifling leash of her Russian Bratva Boss father and from the brutality of her work at The Dungeon, her criminal family’s underground death-match enterprise. But when she stumbles upon her family’s captive who is more monster than man, she starts to see the man underneath. A powerful, beautiful, damaged man whose heart calls to hers. But sacrifices must be made–blood for blood…life for life…souls for scarred souls…

I loved, loved, loooved this!!! Reap is an incredible, heart-pounding, romantic read I was utterly enthralled with. I’m such a fan of the way Tillie Cole writes – it’s dark, powerful, addicting. Her stories are riveting, and her characters are intense yet lovable. I had high expectations for Reap after loving Raze – and I’m so glad to say Reap is another winner from one of my favorite authors!

The Scarred Souls series is not for the faint of heart. It’s dark, gruesome at times, and yet I can’t stop reading it. Reap is the story of 221, also known as Zaal Kostava, and Talia Tolstaia. It could be read as a standalone, but I think it’s much easier to understand Reap if you’ve read Raze, because we also get some chapters in Luka’s POV, who was the main character in Raze. Reap is a bit of a continuation of Raze, though it is still firmly Zaal and Talia’s story.

For over 20 years, Zaal has been known as 221, an enslaved fighter who, under the influence of forced drugs, is a soulless killing machine for his ‘master’. He and his twin were abducted at a young age and forced into horrible, tragic circumstances. But it turns out that Zaal’s twin is none other than the one person Luka owes his life to, and Luka is determined to pay his debts by saving Zaal.

Talia, Luka’s sister, may be the daughter of one of the leading Russian mobsters, but she struggles with the responsibilities that come with the role. When she grows tired of the Bratva life, she runs away to a private beach house – but everything changes when Luka shows up with a feral, beast of a man and chains him up in the basement. Talia grows intrigued by Zaal, who’s the son of her family’s enemy, until her obsession with him grows and one day she can’t help but go to him.

Our desperate gazes met.
He took a deep breath.
Then he whispered, “You are … for me?”
And I knew I was done.
Trampled, heart-flattened, done.

This book kept tearing my heart open and filling it with love for the characters over and over again. My heart broke for Zaal, for the tragedy that happened to him and his family. I nearly wanted to cry, the story got so emotional sometimes. But then with Talia, Zaal finds family, love, again, and my heart would ache with happiness for the two of them. Tillie Cole has a talent at conveying such powerful love between her couples, and Zaal and Talia’s romance by far is my favorite.

“Zaal Kostava, you’ve stolen my forbidden heart.”

The Scarred Souls series is dark romance at its finest. The love story is stunning, written perfectly to balance out the dark parts of the book. I don’t know how Tillie Cole does it, but every time, I am just so blown away by the sheer brilliance of the writing and the gorgeous love between her characters. I have to admit, I loved Reap even more than Raze, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the third book (whose main character is one I’m SO excited for)!

“My heart, it is full, Talia. It is full, for you.”

“For fractured souls are like magnets.
Drawn to collide into an impossible bliss…”

Labeled a ‘Cursed’ woman of Eve from birth, Maddie has endured nothing but pain and repression at the hands of The Order’s most abusive elder, Moses. Now living with her sister in The Hangmen’s secluded compound, finally, Maddie, is free. Free from the suffocating faith she no longer believes in. Free from endless years of physical and mental torment.

Just… free…

At age twenty-one, the timid and shy Maddie is content to live within the confines of her new home—safe from the outside world, safe from harm and, strangely, protected by the Hangmen’s most volatile member; the heavily pierced and tattooed, Flame.

Flame.

The man who ceaselessly watches over her with his midnight dark and searing eyes. The man who protects her with a breath-taking intensity. And the man who stirs something deep within her numbed heart.

But when circumstances conspire for Flame to need HER help, Maddie bravely risks it all for the broken man who has captivated her fragile soul.

The Hangmen’s most infamous member, Flame, is ruled by one thing—anger. Plagued by haunting demons from his past, an all-consuming rage, and isolated by an abhorrent hatred of being touched, Flame’s days are filled with suffocating darkness, pierced only by a single ray of light—Maddie. The shy, beautiful woman he cannot purge from his thoughts. The woman he has an overwhelming need to possess…

… the only person who has ever been able to touch him.

Flame’s mission in life is to protect Maddie, to keep her safe. Until a trigger from his troubled past sends him spiraling into madness, trapping him in the deepest recesses of his disturbed mind.

His Hangmen brothers fear that Flame is beyond saving.
His only hope of salvation: Maddie and her healing light.

Finally!!! We finally get Flame and Maddie’s book!!! Souls Unfractured was seriously THE book I had been waiting for all summer. After loving Ky’s book SO HARD, and getting those glimpses of Maddie and Flame together… I just NEEDED them to get their story and HEA. Tillie Cole built up their story so perfectly that I had such high expectations for Souls Unfractured. Maybe too high… but I’ll talk about that later. If you’re a fan of the Hades Hangmen series, you don’t want to miss Flame and Maddie’s story – it’s a brilliant, intense, insane book that I couldn’t put down.

“From the moment I was able to touch him, and he touched me, I was claimed. I have been his this whole time.”

If you haven’t read the other books in the series, I encourage you to do so before picking up Souls Unfractured. For one thing, you get to experience the build-up to Maddie and Flame’s book so much better, and there’s an over-arcing storyline that the series follows that has to do with the Hades Hangmen and the religious cult that Maddie, Mae, and Lilah came from.

Ever since Maddie left the Commune, she’s always had her dark knight, her Flame, to protect her. Of the three girls, Maddie experienced the worst abuse at the hands of the sick cult the were from. My heart broke over and over for Maddie and all that she went through – her flashbacks were truly gruesome to recount. But the one thing that keeps Maddie going, that keeps her living, is Flame, who is even more tortured than she is.

“You, Flame. My Flame. My tortured boy. You game me life and light.”

Flame is crazy, crazy scary, and a man no one wants to mess with, not even his club brothers. He’s twisted, violent, and loves to kill, but more than that, he’ll die to protect Maddie, the light in his darkness. His past was even more awful to read, let along experience. Flame and Maddie went through such awful pain and torture in their pasts that I couldn’t even imagine how they’d overcome them. But they do. Oh, how they do. Tillie Cole writes such a beautiful, haunting love story between two broken souls who manage to heal each other in ways they never dreamed of. Theirs is a love that is raw and passionate that I couldn’t put this book down. I absolutely needed to know how these two would get their much deserved HEA.

“We are Flame and Maddie. And we have survived.” I pressed a kiss to his fingers and I emphasized, “We have found each other, and we are never letting each other go.”

One word to describe this book: intense. The characters are intense, the storyline is intense, every single freaking scene is intense. Flame and Maddie’s book was honestly the most nail-biting, gripping, painful book to read of all three books out so far. If you thought the Ky or Styx’s books were intense, you haven’t seen anything until you get to Flame’s.

Remember the thing I said earlier about having too high expectations? Well, I never thought I’d say this for Souls Unfractured, but I really did have too high expectations for it. For some reason, there was something missing for me in this book. I didn’t love it as much as I loved Ky’s book, even though I expected to love Flame’s the most. I’m totally blaming myself for not loving this book as much as I expected to – I just wasn’t in the right mood to experience such painful and tortured pasts from both Maddie and Flame.

“You are my miracle, Flame Cade. You truly are my soul’s other half.”

Still, I really did enjoy this book. I’m so thankful that Flame and Maddie get their story told – if anyone deserves a HEA, it’s these two. I loved getting to see the rest of the Hades Hangmen gang again. I absolutely adore AK and Viking now, who I’m wishing will get their own books! Also running parallel to the Hades Hangmen story is Cain/Rider’s, who I’m actually really excited to read more about. His story ends on a cliffie, so now I’m eagerly awaiting his book, Deep Redemption.

The Hades Hangmen series is one of the best MC series I’ve ever read. Tillie’s fantastic writing pulls you so deep into the story and the haunting tales of each of the characters in the series. These books are NOT easy reads, but if you’re in the mood for something dark, gritty, and twisted, the Hades Hangmen series is perfect for you.

Now here’s an excerpt from Souls Unfractured! ❤

I sat bolt up right in the chair and stared at the dark line of the forest. My heart slammed against my ribcage when a figure emerged from the heavy foliage.

My breathing paused, fear taking hold, then a familiar pair of leather boots and trousers entered the moonlit lawn. Blades hung at his sides, and his torso was naked under the heavy leather cut.

Flame.

My heart, that was already racing, seemed to beat at an impossible speed. And then Flame lifted his head, and it ceased to beat at all.

The frown that was on his face instantly blanked. His lips mumbling something under his breath, stilling mid-speech.

I clutched the blanket lying over my knees to my chest. I remained frozen, as did Flame. I had not expected him to come tonight, his friend had taken him back to his home. I could see from my window how exhausted he had been.  I could see, even in the haze of moonlight, how tired he was still.

Flame’s hands clenched at his sides. His chest heaved with movement that was too quick, then he abruptly turned on his heel, and with a rigid back, he headed back into the forest.

My stomach sank as he turned to leave, and without conscious thought, I slammed my sketchpad shut, shuffled to the edge of the seat and called out, “Wait! Do not go!”

Flame stopped dead.

As did I.

Swallowing back my nerves, my shock at what I had just done, I said, “Please, Flame. Do not go… I… I am glad you are here.”

Flame’s fingers curled and uncurled at his side, then straightening his shoulders, he slowly turned. His large frame was rigid as he faced me once more. Then he just stood. Stood at the end of the forest, his attention fixed forward.

But I wanted him closer.

Still perched on the edge of my seat, I asked, “Would you like to come closer? I… I have been sitting out here alone as I could not sleep. It…” I took a deep breath, fighting my natural instinct to flee, and continued. “It would be nice to have some company.”

Flame remained still, his rigid body convincing me that he would not come any nearer. Then, to my surprise, he began walking, his powerful legs bringing him closer to where I sat.

In the still and silent night, I could hear him counting his steps one to eleven, then repeating it back to himself under his breath. My head tilted to the side as he approached, a swirl of anticipation and fear mixing in my stomach.

His skin on his arms looked newly cut, and I could not help but feel sad for him. For whatever had happened to make him need to harm himself in such a way.  Grasping the blade in his hand, his fingers tightened on the handle. Like he needed the blade as a comfort.

As though he was nervous to be here with me now.

Inhaling a long breath, I asked quietly, “Would you like to sit?” I pointed at the chair to in front of mine. Flame looked at the chair through his long black lashes, and exhaling sharply through his nose, sat beside me. I smelled the oil and leather. I smelled the rich musk and spice scent that only belonged to Flame and warmth filled my bones.

He was sat beside me.

Flame was sitting right beside me.

Dropping my eyes to the frayed edges of the gray blanket wrapped around me, I played with the clustered strands of wool just for something to help with the nerves accosting my body.

But Flame was absolutely still. Absolutely silent.

Then I glanced to the side only to see him watching. As soon as our eyes met, he dropped his. A blush raced to fill my cheeks, and for some unknown reason, a whisper of a smile pulled on the corner of my mouth.

Lifting my head, I stared at the large moon, and found the courage to speak, “I did not think you would be coming to see me tonight.”

After several seconds of silence, I believed Flame would not respond. Until I caught him shift in his seat, and he said roughly, “I couldn’t stay away.”

My pulse raced at his response and I whispered, “Why?”

Flame’s shoulder shrugged, then focusing back on the blade in his hand, he said, “I couldn’t stop thinking about you. And I…” Flame trailed off.

“And what?” I pushed.

“I needed to be near you. I needed to know you were safe.”

Holy hell!! This book was one crazy hell of a ride! I’m not even completely sure how I feel about The Paper Swan, but what I do know is that I couldn’t. put. it. down. This is the first book I’ve read by Leylah Attar, and now that I’m a bit in love with the way she writes, this book won’t be my last of hers. I won’t say too much about the plot of this book, since the twists and turns are the best part of it, but I just really enjoyed this book. I wouldn’t say it’s THE BEST book I’ve read, but it’s a dark, gritty, entertaining book I devoured in one sitting.

“You can either choose love or you can choose hate, because where one lives, the other will die.”

I was completely taken aback with the beginning of the book. Leylah Attar definitely doesn’t hold back – instead, she thrusts the reader right into the midst of the story, making your heart pound as you read more and more. Skye Sedgewick finds herself held at gunpoint by a strange man. Curiously, he doesn’t kill her, but instead kidnaps her and holds her hostage on a boat. Damian, the abductor, is cruel, cold, and violent, but he also has… kinder moments. I didn’t like him… but I didn’t quite hate him either. I was waiting to see what his reasons were and how the story would unfold before I made my judgements on him, and WOW was I surprised at what was revealed.

The two men that I loved the most, with all my heart, were out to destroy each other. I had a feeling that by the time it was all said and done, only one would be left standing.

Interspersed between the moments that Skye is desperately trying to find a way to escape are flashbacks that tell of Skye’s early childhood, when she lived in Mexico with her father, nanny, and beloved childhood friend Esteban. I LOVED the way the the author integrated the past with the present. The story flowed so well and unfolded in such a smooth, lyrical way. The writing was good, though I wasn’t that big of a fan of it. I can see how people would love the writing, but to me, it sometimes felt like too much – too poetic and flowery. I much rather enjoyed the actual organization of the book.

So what does Damian want with Skye? Who exactly is he? Thankfully, Leylah Attar doesn’t hold us in suspense for too long, because by 25%, we get some answers and I could see which way the author was taking the story. The blurb says that this book is NOT a love triangle, and I would have to agree. Damian is the only love interest, though it took a long time for me to even warm up to him being a love interest at all. In the end, I couldn’t forgive the things he did to Skye, though he does change and emotions surface once secrets are out in the open. Damian really said the sweetest things, but it was hard for me to reconcile his sweeter side with the cruel side he showed in the beginning. So while I can’t say I loved him, I did enjoy the way he and Skye were together.

“Whether you say yes or no, you will always be my forever.”

The Paper Swan is a fantastic kidnapper romance, because it’s so much more than that. Yes, Skye falls for her kidnapper, but her captivity is also a journey of self-discovery with revealed secrets. This book is also very much Damian’s story, with his quest in revenge, vengeance, and redemption. There’s no doubt this book is intense, and I loved the amount of depth the author put into the characters and story. I highly recommend this book for those who like their books gritty and suspenseful.

You don’t always get the treasure by holding on. Sometimes the magic happens when you let go.

Leylah Attar writes stories about love – shaken, stirred and served with a twist. When she’s not writing, she can be found pursuing her other passions: photography, food, family and travel. Sometimes she disappears into the black hole of the internet, but can usually be enticed out with chocolate.

“We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . .”

RUIN & RULE

She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she’s lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .

He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.

Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?

He touched me like a man in love. He touched me like a man who knew me. Who adored me and wanted me for just as long as I’d wanted him.
It was a lie.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!

This book was just – WOW! Stunning. Captivating. Dark and gritty. So epically written and handled. I loved it!

I’ve only read three other books by Pepper Winters – Tears of TessDestroyed, and Debt Inheritance – and while I liked them… they were nothing compared to Ruin & Rule. Ruin & Rule was truly an experience – it’s the type of book you get absorbed into and never lets you go. It’s so addicting and beautifully written – it’s definitely the best Pepper Winter book I’ve read so far.

The heroine wakes up with no knowledge of who she is – her memories are a complete blank slate. She doesn’t know her name or where she’s from and most importantly, why she wakes up bound and captive.

How could I deal with this new world if I didn’t know what skills I had to stay alive? How could I hope to defeat my enemy when my mind revolted and locked me out?
Who am I?
To have who I was deleted… It was unthinkable.

She finds herself held hostage by the Pure Corruption MC – by the MC president who she believes she knows from her past. Every look into Arthur Killian’s eyes is like coming home… except he looks at her with hate. My heart was aching for the heroine, for how desperate she was to find out who she was and who Kill was to her. She starts remembering snippets of memories, nothing concrete, but she knows Kill recognizes her. But unless she can prove it, she stuck as a hostage about to be sold.

Once upon a time, I’d loved him in a nightmare so much worse than this one. I’d grown wet for him in another reality, all while he worshipped me, adored me.
It wasn’t my fault I couldn’t separate fact from fiction, truth from fable.

This book took me on a roller coaster of emotions. I wanted so badly for the heroine to remember who she was – I wanted to know who she was – but nothing would force the memories back into her brain. And Kill – oh my god, Kill! I loved him. He’s powerful, dark, dangerous, and NOT a good man… but I was freaking addicted to his character. He’s a man who lives on vengeance and hate but is inexplicably drawn to the woman who reminds him of his lost love.

The undeniable chemistry between Kill and heroine took my breath away. Their connection is strong and raw and intense, and when they fall into bed with each other, it is scorching. It gets seriously HOT between them – the sex is off. the. charts! There’s an animal-like intensity between them that I freaking loved.

Ruin & Rule is not an easy read. There are so many layers to this book, so many questions and only a few of them are answered. Pepper Winters masterfully creates a plot that is as puzzling as it is intriguing. Her writing is so, SO good – almost poetic. I loved the writing, I was addicted to the story, and I was intrigued by the characters… this book is just a MUST READ! I couldn’t put it down for a second. And the ending! Ruin & Rule ends on a cliffhanger, and while I normally don’t like cliffhangers, this one didn’t bother me very much. I was expecting it, and it felt like the right place to end the first book while still leaving you wanting for the second. I highly recommend this book – it’s so worth the read, even if you don’t like cliffhangers!

Series: Asking for It #1 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: June 2nd 2015

“This is who I am. This is what I want. Now I need a man dangerous enough to give it to me.”

Graduate student Vivienne Charles is afraid of her own desires—ashamed to admit that she fantasizes about being taken by force, by a man who will claim her completely and without mercy. When the magnetic, mysterious Jonah Marks learns her secret, he makes an offer that stuns her: they will remain near-strangers to each other, and meet in secret so that he can fulfill her fantasy.

Their arrangement is twisted. The sex is incredible. And—despite their attempts to stay apart—soon their emotions are bound together as tightly as the rope around Vivienne’s wrists. But the secrets in their pasts threaten to turn their affair even darker…

Reader Advisory: Asking for It deals explicitly with fantasies of non-consensual sex. Readers sensitive to portrayals of non-consensual sex should be advised.

Holy WOW!!! WOW. What an incredible read. I’m still not quite sure what to make of it, but I know I wholehearted enjoyed this book.

When I first got an email about Asking for It, I was SO intrigued. It’s a book about two people who fantasize about non-consensual sex. Rape. A sensitive subject, definitely, but I thought the author handled it excellently.

If it’s all in my head, and it makes me come, what’s the harm?
(It makes me come hard.)
The harm is when the lines between reality and fantasy get blurred.
Like they did last night.

This book is just… it’s a lot to handle. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel reading a book with this theme, but the author wrote this book so flawlessly that I couldn’t put it down. Vivienne and Jonah’s exploration of their fantasies is nothing short of mind-blowing, mentally and physically. I was intrigued by the blurb, but the moment I started reading, I was hooked onto the story and the characters.

“You hate it, don’t you? The fantasy. I do too. But it doesn’t change anything.”

Asking for It is provocative. Sexy. Intense. When Vivienne and Jonah start a no-strings relationship in which they get fulfill their fantasies, it was so much hotter than I thought it would be. None of the sex felt gratuitous – it all served a purpose. I got so turned on by the raw, gritty, intense, hot fucking between them, yet the story goes so much deeper than just the enacting of their fantasies. As I got to know Vivienne and Jonah, I became invested in their characters. There are so many layers to them, and so many more to unravel by the end of the book. And just a heads up, Asking for It is not a standalone.

I loved how Vivienne and Jonah find a safe place with each other to enact their fantasies. There’s a huge amount of trust involved, which means it’s easy for their hearts to get involved. The romance isn’t quite a romance – feelings develop but they’re not concrete quite yet. There’s a lot of potential for love between Jonah and Vivienne, and I’m looking forward to reading more of them.

“You destroy me every time. Completely.”

If you’re intrigued by the blurb, then I say go for it. It’s a sensitive subject, but the author handles it with confidence and grace. The writing is absolutely stunning – I’d recommend this book based on that alone. As for the romance, even though there’s not much of it, I’d still recommend giving this a try. I’m a total romance sap, yet I wasn’t dissatisfied by the way the romance played out in this book. It’s slow going, for sure, but I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel to see where the author takes Jonah and Vivienne.

4 hearts for Asking for It – it’s a fascinating, promising start to Vivienne and Jonah’s story.
