From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Bully, Until You, Rival, and Falling Away comes the sizzling conclusion to the Fall Away series.

The tables have turned. Now I have the power—and it’s his turn to beg…

Everyone wants to be me.

Maybe it’s the sway of my skirt or the way I flip my hair, but I don’t care. Even though their attention is the last thing I crave, I just can’t stop. I dominate the track, the speed rattles my bones, and the wind and the crowd screams my name.

I’m her. The girl driver. The queen of the race. And I’m surviving—something he thought I’d never do.

They all talk about him. Did you see Jared Trent on T.V? What did you think of his last race, Tate? When is he coming back to town, Tate?

But I refuse to care too much. Because when Jared does come home, I won’t be here.

Tatum Brandt is gone. I’m someone new.

Welcome to today’s stop on the blog tour for Falling Away by Penelope Douglas! I’m so excited to share the Q&A I had with KC, Jax, Madoc, and Fallon!

Character Interview: KC & Jax from Falling Away (with Madoc & Fallon)

KC, what is it about Jax that perfectly complements you?

Jax taught me how to let go of things. All my life I’d been following rules and doing things the way I was taught without even considering why or that I could live my life my own way. He taught me to think outside the box. It was okay to make my decisions and change it up.

And Jax, what is it about KC that perfectly complements you?

She taught me to hang on. That I was just as good as anyone else, and I didn’t need to be alone to be strong. I realized I wanted to build something good with someone else.

Jax, why did you decide to finally start pursuing KC? And how did it feel to be able to finally pursue her?

It was the Weight Room kiss. I’d planned to stay away from her. I knew she looked down on me, and had her own hang ups, so I was prepared to leave her alone, but after the kiss…I just couldn’t. Her body in my arms, her lips on mine…it felt better than anything I’d felt with another girl. And then when I gave her the driving lesson and everything started to come together and she started to give in it was like waking up after a long sleep. Being alive never felt so good.

KC & Jax, your stories were the most heartbreaking of the series and yet you both managed to overcome your pasts. Is there a message you’d like readers to take away from your book?

I guess we want people to know no one’s opinion of you is more important than your own. We all have a story and if anyone isn’t willing to open their minds to accept you, then that’s not your problem.

KC & Jax, will either of you be getting any more tattoos?

Oh, I think so. Juliet got “I Defy You, Stars” under her arm and I got one to match my brother’s new tattoo. You’ll hear about it in Aflame.

KC, how do you like being with such a hot nerd (emphasis on hot) who totally stalked you in the most romantic way possible?

He’s the yin to my yang. I have no idea about techie stuff, so Jax helps a lot with that. I got the total package. Smart and sexy.

Jax, how did if feel teaching KC how to drive a stick?

It felt great just being alone with her. Both of us doing something productive together other than going round and round with the foreplay. I loved seeing her relax and smile.

Madoc! How does it feel to have Jax getting #1 in Romantic Erotica on release day?

The kid had to learn from somewhere, didn’t he?

KC & Jax, what’s in store for your future? What did you two do or see in New Zealand?

We’re continuing college and planning trips. New Zealand was amazing. We spent very little time in the cities. But we did love getting lost hiking and climbing, and the rafting was wonderful. It’s definitely a place for the outdoor travelers.

Madoc & Fallon, what are your plans for the next couple years?

Law school and grad school and practicing for when it’s time to get pregnant.

Jax!! You sexy mofo, do you have anything to say to your lady fans (of which I am one)?

I’ll be watching you.

What are your favorite songs currently?

Slipknot The Devil and I and Papa Roach Getting Away with Murder

Are any of you worried about Jared and Tate?

Jax: I’ve talked to Jared. He’s hanging in there.
Madoc: Of course he is. He always takes care of himself first, doesn’t he?
Jax: Don’t start, Madoc.
Juliet: *clears throat* Tate is doing fine. She’s focused on school.
Fallon: Yeah, everyone’s fine.

And that concludes this interview! Thanks again for being here everyone!

“Only. Ever. You.”

I am so utterly in love with the Fall Away series. Penelope Douglas has a way of bringing her characters to such life that I grow to love and adore every single one of them. These characters and their stories punch you right in the heart – they gut you in the best way possible. You feel so much while reading the books in the series. And Falling Away is another fantastic addition to this series – it’s a book full of angst and heartache, hope and love. I devoured K.C. and Jax’s story and wished it never ended!

Ever since reading Rival, I had such high hopes for Jax’s book. I mean, seriously, Jax screamed sex and alpha-male, and he was only seventeen in that book. Now he’s nineteen, bigger, better, and badder than ever. I was squealing all over the place when I got my hands on him Falling Away – I knew even before I started reading that Jax would blow me away, and he did. Holy moly, did he ever.

“I wanted your mouth on mine,” he whispered, his breath tickling my forehead. “And your legs wrapped around my waist as you rode me.” Oh, my god. “Man, I wanted you, K.C. I wanted to undo you.” His lips were so close my face I could feel the moistness of his breath as he whispered, “I wanted to dirty you up.”

Now K.C…. She was the best surprise of all. In the previous books, K.C. was a character who was just there, not very interesting, and she certainly didn’t seem like a good match for Jax. K.C. was always known as the “good girl,” but after getting into serious trouble for the first time in her life, she’s forced back home in the middle of college. She sees Jax again – they’ve always had a little thing for each other back in high school, but now their chemistry is off the charts. I absolutely LOVED the way the author built up their chemistry. It’s a raw, intense kind of sexual chemistry that was years in the making. I can say without a doubt that Jax and K.C. are the HOTTEST couple of the series. Jax has a dirty, filthy mouth that had me blushing so hard!

I didn’t expect it, but for me, it was K.C. – her character growth and transformation – that made fall in love with this book. It seems like there is always this one pivotal moment in each of the Fall Away books where the main female character has that moment where she shines and continues to shine throughout the book. For K.C., it’s in a moment where you realize that there is so much more to this girl. I never expected to love K.C.’s character, but I did. I adored her and admired the way she broke out of the cookie-cutter box she was forced into.

“You’re going to be okay,” Jax offered.
I shook my head, my voice turning sad. “I don’t want to be okay,” I countered. “I want to be off the rails, Jax. I want to fight and scream and rage and lost myself. I want to be hungry.” I dropped my voice to a whisper as I looked out the windshield. “I want to be a mess. For once.”

I love the dynamics of K.C. and Jax’s relationship. Sex is what brings them together, but it’s what they do for each other’s souls that keeps them together. Jax and K.C. have scars from their painful pasts that they haven’t overcome, but as they fall in love, those scars are uncovered and begin to heal. They bring out the best and most out of each other. And I loved that even as sexual as they are, they have tender and romantic moments that stole my heart.

“You’ve owned me since I was seventeen.”

Falling Away was the kind of read that had me feeling breathless. Jax and K.C.’s story spoke to my heart and I couldn’t get enough of them. I do feel like some parts felt too rushed, and I wished they were fleshed out a bit more, but those are my only complaints. I adored Falling Away! 4.5 hearts!

Now here’s an excerpt from Falling Away! ❤

excerpt

“So, how did this happen?” I asked, holding the gauze on his skin, under the cuts, to catch the saline.

His abs flexed, probably from the cold fluid, since saline didn’t sting, as I poured it over the cuts, cleaning them.

He sucked in air through his teeth. “Some of the science kids have greenhouses on the roof,” he grunted, and I almost laughed out loud. “Masters asked me to go up and make sure the roofs were closed, but I slipped coming back down the stairs. Scraped myself on some bolts.”

Ouch.

I used the rest of the gauze to wipe up the solution, and then ripped open a package with a wet wipe and made sure the blood was cleared up.

“You should be using gloves,” he pointed out. “You know? Blood and all.”

“I thought any girl was safe with you,” I shot back, tearing open bandages. “Isn’t that what you told me?”

Jax was silent for a minute, narrowing his eyes farther and watching me as I placed three rectangular bandages on his stomach.

“I said any girlfriend of mine,” he finally clarified. “But you shouldn’t be so careless. Use gloves next time.”

I ignored him, feeling weird on the occasions he acted like this. Jax had a habit of scolding me, sometimes acting as though he was protecting me, and then following it all up with being an asshole. I finally figured out condescension was his way of gaining superiority. Making others feel stupid.

I sat back, looking him in the eye and changing the subject. “Is anything else hurt?”

He hesitated only a moment. And then folded his arm back, lifting his right elbow to reveal the scratches I’d noticed earlier.

Repeating the same procedure, I stood up and leaned over him, catching the saline wash as it cascaded over his wound and into the gauze.

He hissed, and I blinked.

“Blow on it,” he ordered.

“It doesn’t sting,” I scoffed, knowing damn well that saline didn’t hurt.

“K.C., Jesus,” he barked, wincing.

I rolled my eyes but gave in. Holding the underside of his arm—his hard triceps—I leaned down and released a slow, cool breeze over the scratches. Jax’s scent wafted over me again, and I desperately wanted to close my mouth so I could breathe him in through my nose.

But I didn’t. I could tell his eyes were on me.

“Why are you watching me?” I asked, wiping up the rest of the solution and blood.

I didn’t look at him, but I heard him swallow.

“This is just the first time you’ve ever made me feel good, is all,” he replied in probably the most candid way I’d ever heard him speak.

I pinched my eyebrows together.

The first time I’d ever made him feel good. I didn’t know what to say to that. Hell, I had nothing to say to that.

Keeping quiet, I finished applying his bandages as fast as I could and didn’t meet his eyes again. He’d tried to be nice to me in high school. He’d tried to be a friend. Maybe friends with benefits but still a friend. Now here I was, forcing my attention on him, and he probably had no patience for me anymore.

“Can I ask you a question?” I ventured.

“What?”

“That night you drove Liam home . . .” I swallowed, smoothing my fingers over the bandage I’d fixed to his arm. “You said you had tattoos. Too many.” I repeated his words, my eyes fixated on his forearm. “What did you mean?” I pressed, because clearly Jax didn’t sport any tattoos. His statement hadn’t made any sense.

Even though I hadn’t looked at him, I noticed his head turn away as he inhaled a slow, deep breath. Kind of as though he was getting ready to dive deep underwater and knew he wouldn’t be up for air for a while.

“Sorry,” I said quietly, straightening up and crumpling the bandage wrappers in my fist. “I just . . . I don’t know . . .” I trailed off. “I just want to understand.”

I finally met his eyes, and he studied me silently. I didn’t know if he was trying to figure out what to tell me or if he wanted to tell me anything at all. Funny thing was, I’d thought about what Jax said that night a lot over the years, and while I was curious, it wasn’t until I’d overheard his conversation with Jared today that I knew it had something to do with his childhood.

And I realized that I didn’t know Jaxon Trent at all.

He rubbed his forearm and narrowed his eyes briefly before relaxing. “If you could get a tattoo, what would it be?”

I blinked, shocked by his question. “Um.” I laughed softly, thinking. “I thought about a set of angel wings, I guess. With one of the wings broken,” I admitted.

“It has something to do with your past?”

I nodded. “Yes.”

“And it’s something you want to remember?” he pressed.

“Yes.”

“That’s why I don’t have any tattoos,” he concluded. “People get tattoos for all kinds of reasons, but they’re always badges of what has made them who they are. I don’t care to remember what and who made me this way. The people that gave me life. The people that brought me up . . .” He shook his head, defiant. “The places I’ve seen or anything I’ve done. It’s all in my head, anyway. I don’t want it on my body, too. I don’t care about anything that much.”

Welcome to today’s stop on the blog tour for RIVAL by Penelope Douglas! This book was amaaaaazing, ya’ll. Seriously, I loved it so hard. It was beautiful, gut-wrenching, and everything good you can expect from Penelope Douglas. You can read my review for Rival here. Aaaand, I highly recommend reading the other books in the series if you haven’t already! BULLY is the first book (my review) and Until You (my review) is BULLY in Jared’s POV.

So, let’s move on to the character Q&A! Yes, I was lucky enough to get to interview the characters from the series! ❤

Character Interview: Madoc & Fallon from Rival (with Tate & Jared)

Thank you for being here with me today, you guys!
Fallon & Madoc, how would you describe each other?

Fallon: Madoc is true. He doesn’t fake it, and he wants to be happy. And he spends every day making sure those around him are happy, too.

Madoc: Fallon intrigues me, because she fights with everyone and defies everything. But she let me in.

Fallon & Madoc, how did you feel when you saw each other for the very first time?

Madoc: What the hell is she wearing?

Fallon: What the hell is he wearing?

Fallon & Madoc, what’s the thing you love the most about each other? And the thing you hate the most?

Fallon: Love? His humor. He makes me smile. Hate? His kisses. They instantly turn me on, and no matter where we are, we need to go home immediately.

Madoc: Love? Her surrender. She talked a good talk, but finding out she wanted me. Yeah. And hate? I hate her cooking. It’s terrible. It’s so terrible, the dog won’t eat it. We don’t have a dog, but he would not eat it if he were there.

So, Madoc… how much did it hurt getting that *cough* piercing?

Madoc: I’d imagine it’s like a snakebite on my dick. But once the needle’s in, you have to finish.

Fallon, do you think you’ll ever wear all of your piercings again?

Fallon: Not the septum. I’m over that one, even though I loved it.

And which piercing hurt the most to get?

Fallon: Probably my tongue. And it was the hardest to heal.

Fallon & Madoc, will either of you get anymore tattoos?

Fallon: Yes.

Madoc: Yes, when she gives me kids.

Jared & Tate, what’s next for you two?

Jared: I’m just doing the ROTC thing. Hanging in there.

Tate: I’m looking at medical schools. Beyond that, we’re not planning too far ahead. Who knows what will happen with Jared’s career.

For everyone, what’s your favorite swear word?

Madoc: All of them.

Fallon: Shit.

Jared: Fuck.

Tate: Motherfucker.

Madoc & Fallon, what are your biggest turn-ons?

Madoc: Pajamas. I love a girl in pajamas. Right, Tate?

If there was a zombie apocalypse, who would survive the longest?

Tate.

And I’m being totally morbid here, but in what order would each of you die?

Madoc (because he’d give himself to save anyone), Fallon, Jared (because he’d give himself to save Tate), and Tate

And lastly–Madoc, I’m kind of in love with you. I know you’re with Fallon, but maybe we can go out sometime? 😉

Madoc: I am a people-pleaser, my love. However, I am a one-woman guy. And even if I weren’t, her father would make me one.

And that concludes this interview! Thanks again for being here!

Thank you for having us!!

She’s back.

For the two years she’s been away at boarding school, there was no word from her. Back when we lived in the same house, she used to cut me down during the day and then leave her door open for me at night.

I’m back.

Two years and I can tell he still wants me, even if he acts like he’s better than me.

Now here’s an excerpt! This is from one of my favorite scenes in the book…

excerpt

Reaching around, he twisted my chin towards the mirror, and I sucked in a breath. “What do you see?!” he shouted.

“You and me!” I blurted out. “Madoc and Fallon!”

My heart was racing.

I looked at him through the mirror. I sat on one side of his lap, so he could see from the other side, and we stared at each other, my chest rising and falling more urgently.

“That’s not what I see,” he said in a low voice. “Those names mean nothing to me. They’re simple and empty. When I’m with you, I don’t see the daughter of a gold digging bitch and an Irish drug lord or the son of a crooked lawyer and a vegan Barbie.”

I almost wanted to laugh. Madoc had an ironic way of looking at the world.

But he wasn’t smiling. He was scowling. He was dead serious, and I knew from experience that his genuine moments were few and far between.

He reached up, threading one hand into my hair while the other hand rested on the chair.

“I see everything I want for as long as I can have it,” he continued. “I see a woman that wears the cutest little scowl like she’s two years old and was just told she couldn’t have candy. I see a guy that went and got an apadravya piercing, because he wanted to live in her world for even a little while.”

I closed my eyes. Don’t do this to me, Madoc. Please.

Oh my gosh, OH MY GOSH! Rival was utter perfection! I laughed, I swooned, I gasped, and I fell deeply and madly in love with this book. Rival is a stunning, beautiful, heart-wrenching book that will make fans of Penelope Douglas fall in love all over again with this series after reading it.

Rival was definitely one of my TOP anticipated reads of the year, and it didn’t disappoint. It totally met every one of my high expectations and then some. So for those of you who, like me, fell in love with Jared and Tate’s story and were wondering if Rival will be just as good? I’m here to tell you that it abso-freaking-lutely is. It’s been a while since a book has had me so consumed in its story, but once I started Rival, I literally could not stop reading. I was utterly addicted to each and every page.

There were people I liked and people I didn’t like. People I loved and people I hated.
But there was only one person I loved to hate.

Madoc and Fallon: step-siblings–who hate each other. Basically, the perfect ingredients for one hell of a book.

Two years ago, Fallon was sent away to boarding school. Madoc was left behind, and during those two years, hatred festered over misunderstandings and hurt. But the Madoc we know now? He’s not exactly an angry boy. He’s obnoxious, rude, funny as hell, but not very emotional. But now that Fallon is back, all these emotions are rising up in him–his lust and hate for her–and the chemistry between them is passionate and can’t be denied.

That beautiful girl that hated me, and I hated her, but–goddamn it–I loved how we hated, because it was raw and real. It didn’t make any sense, but yeah–it was real.

I absolutely loved how Penelope Douglas portrayed Madoc and Fallon’s attraction. No matter how much they hate each other, that attraction is always there, and it’s hard and fast and felt very, very real. I could feel the tension between them, how on edge the two of them were. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat, with my heart pounding, just waiting for the tension to explode between them. And besides, love and hate? There’s a very thin line between the two, and Madoc and Fallon cross that line again and again.

Fallon is one hell of a chick. I loved her, admired her, felt for her, hurt for her. She goes through such emotional turmoil from past and present hurts, all the while never giving up that badass persona. She’s tough through and through, but the one person who can get through those walls, the one person who sees her for her, is Madoc. Madoc, the first boy she’s ever been with, the boy who broke her heart, and now the man who fires her up like no other.

“You act like you have no heart, like you just swallow your conscience with all of the pain you cause. But I see through it, Fallon. The truth is, you want me like nobody’s business.” She closed her mouth and swallowed. “You’ve always wanted me. You know why? Because I don’t try to kill your demons. I run with them.”

Madoc and Fallon definitely don’t have an easy path ahead of them. They have so much history that we piece together as it’s slowly revealed throughout the book. Rival almost felt suspenseful, in the way that it was so thrilling and intense to read. There is just so much for Fallon and Madoc to overcome, but there is no doubt that these two can do anything together.

Rival is told in both Madoc and Fallon’s POVs, so we come to understand how both of them feel. We understand where their anger comes from, how their anger is justified. I never even wanted to smack either of them, that’s how much I came to love and understand them. This couple has one of the most gripping and addicting stories, and I applaud Penelope Douglas for creating them, for creating characters that I’ll never forget.

And Jared and Tate fans, don’t despair! These two play a heavy part in Rival, which totally me happy. And holy crapola, JAX! We get to see a little more of Jax, Jared’s brother, and I have to say, I have a feeling I’m going to love Jax even more than Jared or Madoc, which is saying something because I love Jared and Madoc to infinity and beyond. I grew a little obsessed with Jax while reading Rival–I swear, Falling Away cannot get here fast enough!

So, Rival? It’s one of the best books I’ve read all year. I loved every single thing about it. I was up until three in the morning finishing this darn book, but it was so worth it. I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK!
