Headline: SEALs, Rangers, Delta Force—Oh My!
Who’s Your Favorite Special Ops Hero?

Thank you for inviting me to talk about To Tempt a SEAL! I love writing military romance. Love it. But after penning seven red-hot reads, U.S. Navy SEAL Cade Daniels, the hero in To Tempt a SEAL, is a first for me. I’ve written Army Rangers, an Air Force Pararescue Jumper, and female veterans. But Cade Daniels is my first SEAL.

In a field of heroes, the Navy SEAL stands out. Outside of romance novels, these men are often considered the best of the best. SEALs never give up. They conquer the no-win situations, doing whatever it takes. They fight hard, train hard, and—at least in romance novels—play hard.

I knew from the minute I sat down to write To Tempt a SEAL that Lucia Lewis, the heroine in my first Sin City SEAL series story, deserved a man who refused to back down. A man who loved a challenge. A hero who was willing to do whatever necessary to leave my heroine feeling wanted and desired.

Lucia carries the physical and emotional scars from her years in foster care with her to Vegas. Armed with a mask and a dress that require Spanx to contain her curves, Lucia wants to spend the weekend with a hot guy and check a few wicked fantasies off her list. And U.S. Navy SEAL Cade Daniels is the perfect man for the job.

After writing one sexy SEAL story, I’m head-over-heals in love with SEAL heroes. Of course, I still plan to write about other military heroes and heroines. But oh my, these Sin City SEALs are just so much fun. And sooooo sexyJ

Who is your favorite special ops hero? Do you love SEALs? Army Rangers? Marines?

For the first time in her life, social worker Lucia Lewis is ready to live. And the masquerade ball in Las Vegas is just the place to find a ridiculously hot guy to complete her wicked to-do list. The only rule? Her elegant Venetian mask—which conceals the scars that have always held her back from the life she deserves—stays on.

Navy SEAL Cade Daniels heads to Vegas on a mission to keep his best friend’s little sister out of trouble. Except the woman he’s sent to find is all heat and flame…and perfectly capable of handling herself. And him. But the moment Lucia’s mask slips, the need to heal her, body and soul, is complete and absolute temptation.

But revealing himself could cost him the one thing he isn’t willing to risk…his heart.

“Don’t tell me you came for the artwork,” a deep, masculine voice said from behind her. She closed her eyes briefly, sucking in a sharp breath at the sound that seemingly had a direct line to the parts of her body craving male attention.

Wow, that was fast. Good job, dress.

“What else would I come for?” she replied without turning to face him.

“I don’t know about you, but my eye’s been on a table filled with chocolate five feet away,” the mystery man said.

Chocolate. She opened her eyes. Melt-in-your-mouth sugary goodness came a close second to orgasms on her list of wants.

“What kind of chocolate?” She kept her gaze fixed on the bold red brushstrokes running through the center of the first painting.

He chuckled. “I didn’t look too closely. Does it matter?”

“The details are always important.” Like if the man behind her filled out his suit with a body that promised to make her dreams for tonight a reality. “Milk chocolate tastes different from dark. Do they have fillings that melt in your mouth or ones that explode with flavor?”

She felt him move closer. His heat merging with hers. Without the mask, she might have caught a glimpse of him from the corner of her eye, enough to know if the man matched the panty-melting voice.

“You like things that explode in your mouth?” he said, the words a low growl in her ear.

“Yes.” This man could read the phone book and leave her breathless and brimming with desire. But she wanted more than words tonight.

So she turned to face him.

And oh, God help her, she needed a taste of this man. Her lips refused to form the words “but I’m partial to caramel,” because one look and she was partial to him.

Mr. Panty-Melting Voice had a body that begged to be explored, worshipped, and painted. From his square jaw to the way he filled out his tuxedo, he looked as if he was auditioning to be the next James Bond. Maybe he was. This was Vegas, only a hop, skip, and a jump from Hollywood. And in her humble opinion, his short brown hair and green eyes were a lethal combination.

Move over, Daniel Craig…

“I’ve been watching you stare at those paintings for the last few minutes,” he said, his full lips offering a hint of a smile beneath his plain black mask. “Without even glancing at the chocolate fountain.”

“There’s a fountain?” She heard the note of longing in her voice. Chocolate, carbs—those had topped the list of diet no-no’s for the past six months. But tonight, everything was on the table.

“Yes. You might have noticed if you had moved from this spot. So I have to ask, are you waiting for your date? A boyfriend?”

“No.” Her breath caught on the one word. This man had to be someone—a movie star, a model, the perfect male specimen—he couldn’t be for her.

But the thought of walking away and finding another man to explore her fantasies? Impossible. In her mind, she would hear this stranger’s voice. She’d spend the next forty- eight hours craving the deep sound, wishing she could listen to him murmur sweet nothings in her ear as they acted out her fantasies—or even better, his fantasies. If she walked away from him now, she would spend every minute until sunrise wondering about his top four, though she had a feeling he didn’t carry around a pink Post-it note with his wicked desires spelled out.

Welcome to today’s stop on the blog tour for Last First Kiss by Lia Riley! We have a special guest post from Lia today, as well as an excerpt and giveaway below!

Brightwater: Creating a Small-Town from Scratch

I’ve lived in various places around the world from Italy to Australia, as well as throughout the United States, but no matter what, I maintain strong small town roots. My under-ten years were spent in a tiny village in Southeastern Michigan, surrounded by soybean fields, corn and red barns–the sort of Shire-ish landscape that might be suitable to hobbits. It’s a location that you have to describe to others by naming other, bigger towns, nearby.

When I made the decision to write a small-town romance series, I knew that part of me would tap into my childhood experiences even though it’s far removed from the Californian mountains, in the fictional valley where Brightwater is located.

Part of what makes a small town a fantastic setting is their individuality, the special qualities of the local businesses and the folks who run them. Ma and Pa shops on Main Street can make for quirky fun, as can the locals who patronize them. Parking and traffic are no big deal. People can band together…or know everything about everyone else (or at least think they do).

The town where I grew up isn’t dying out, but it’s not thriving either. There is very much a “stuck in time” feel. That was part of how I designed Brightwater. What if a town that hadn’t changed much in one-hundred-and-fifty years suddenly became an “it” destination? People flocked in to build expensive vacation compounds and suddenly housing prices jumped. Long-time residents were uncertain…would they be pushed out of their home or was this an opportunity to grow and change?

I hope you enjoy getting to visit Brightwater and stop by throughout the books in the series to see how the town and its residents evolve with the times.

A kiss is just the beginning…

Pinterest Perfect. Or so Annie Carson’s life appears on her popular blog. Reality is… messier. Especially when it lands her back in one-cow town, Brightwater, California, and back in the path of the gorgeous six-foot-four reason she left. Sawyer Kane may fill out those wranglers, but she won’t be distracted from her task. Annie just needs the summer to spruce up and sell her family’s farm so she and her young son can start a new life in the big city. Simple, easy, perfect.

Sawyer has always regretted letting the first girl he loved slip away. He won’t make the same mistake twice, but can he convince beautiful, wary Annie to trust her heart again when she’s been given every reason not to? And as a single kiss turns to so much more, can Annie give up her idea of perfect for a forever that’s blissfully real.

Now here’s an excerpt from Last First Kiss! ❤

He tilted back his Stetson, running his intense gaze over her face. “You haven’t changed much.”

The simple statement threatened to fell her. He had no idea everything was different. The dreamy, hopeful girl she’d been, the one he’d known all those years ago, had her atoms obliterated and her soft underbelly refashioned, armored with titanium plates. She didn’t run barefoot through meadows or jump blindly into rivers.

Not anymore.

“Thanks for the repair job,” she said, stepping back, blinking rapidly. He’d fixed the coop, but no one could fix the cracks in her confidence and imploded self-esteem. She needed to do that—if only she knew how. Was there a Self-esteem for Dummies?

Then he moved. Close. Closer. Way too close. The old magnetic pull between them hadn’t lost any potency. The air charged. So much so that when he reached out, cradling her cheek, she expected a zap. “I missed you, Annie Girl.”

Her heart beat sideways at his use of the old nickname.

“I . . . ” missed you too. God. So much. “I have to go.” She took another step backward and then another. “And anyway, I’m not staying, at least not for long. My family’s decided it’s time to sell the farm.”

“Sell?” His body went rigid. “But this place has been in your family forever. All your history is here. How can you let it go to a stranger?”

Who was he to come around at an ungodly hour, in those tight faded jeans that showcased his . . . everything, touching her cheek, giving her unsolicited guidance? Her chest heated. Is that why he was here—being the good cop to Grandma Kane’s bad cop? “I appreciate your help with the coop, but let’s not pretend you’re giving impartial neighborly advice. Your family wants the property back. Trust me, I get the situation. I was raised with it, but we can get more for Five Diamonds than your grandmother could ever offer.”

He dropped his chin, leveling a penetrating stare. “That’s not what I meant, it’s not about the feud. You know I don’t care about any of that.”

She used to believe that, had once fooled herself into believing they were kindred spirits. “I don’t know anything about you anymore, Sawyer. Maybe I never did.”

She pivoted and strode toward the house, clenching the scotch bottle. Why did he come, force her to feel things better forgotten? She was almost at the stairs when a large, powerful hand closed on her upper arm, not a grip, but a gentle touch that halted her mid-step. Her heart pounded, her belly breaking into wild flutters.

Slowly, so slowly, she turned.

He held her gaze squarely, as if daring her to look away. “You know who I am,” he said.

She couldn’t reply, even if she knew what to say. She couldn’t blink or swallow or think. The only sound beside the wind came from their shallow breaths. She and Sawyer might be water under the bridge, but it looked like that water was churning, roiling whitewater.

Welcome to today’s stop on the blog tour for Rules of Seduction by Joya Ryan! We have a special guest post from the author today!

Joya’s Rules of Seduction

To be honest, I’m probably not the best person to give advice on how to seduce. I can tell you what has not worked for me before though! (Not sure that’ll be helpful, but let’s see!)

In my eighteen year old mind, I was on a mission to seduce this hot nerdy guy I met at a party. He was the quiet stoic type. Tall, dark eyes, smart. You know the type. He could melt your panties by whispering sweet nothings in binary code into your ear (that seriously happened once but that’s another story.) Anyway, with all my super fly swagger (I had zero) and my confidence (less than zero) I decided that I was going to go talk him. All the education I’d received in the art of seduction came from watching Days of Lives way too much during my teen years. So when I approached the hot nerd, I had realized I was staring him down with evil eyes whispering, “You shall be mine…oh yes…you shall be mine.”

Clearly this guy didn’t appreciate soap operas…

But I bounced back quickly, assure him I was humming this new song on the radio and not talking to the voices in my head.

To this day, I’m not sure he believed me.

Though he was a bit quiet, shy even, I thought that meant I should be louder to help offset the long pauses of silence between us. Then, with my brilliant seduction skills firing up, I adjusted my train conductor’s hat (because it was early 2000’s and those were cool) and told a joke.

Yep, a joke.

Only, I forgot the punch line, messed up the opening and I stood there spilling out random words that made no sense. It did however make him laugh. Which made me laugh…

Laugh so hard I snorted.

So this little piggy got instantly mortified, but the hot nerd just smiled and said, “You’re a little weird, and I like it a lot.”

That was it. Those few words, followed by a date at the pancake shop down the street and I was certain I’d mastered the art of seduction.

To recap: If you want to seduce someone, just follow three easy steps:

  1. Zero in on your target and mumble to yourself as you approach.
  2. Have nothing of substance to talk about, continue mumbling awkwardly until you think you’ll die of embarrassment then cap it off with a big ol’ snort.
  3. Always wear a train conductor hat.

These sure fire steps to seduction will absolutely get some kind of response. I can’t guarantee what kind of response…but you’ll get one! And no matter what you do, don’t discount any of the steps! I just asked my husband and he concluded that the seduction laid somewhere between the snort/laugh and the conductor hat. Good luck to you, and seduce on!

Blog Tour + Guest Post & Giveaway: Searching for Beautiful by Jennifer Probst

Searching for Beautiful tour banner

Welcome to today’s stop on the blog tour for Searching for Beautiful by Jennifer Probst! We have Jennifer here today with a scene from the book!

Here’s a quick taste of my first scene in Searching for Beautiful!

“Holy shit.”

He stared in shock at the sight before him.

The bride lay in a tangle of limbs, sprawled out on the pavement. The white cloud of lace and dozens of pearly jewels floated around her in a swarm of glory. His heart stopped, stuttered, and kicked back into gear. Jesus, she was gorgeous. Gen had always been an attractive female by all standards, but now she looked as delicate as a doll perched on a wedding cake. She must’ve ripped off her veil because her elaborate twist hairdo lay drunkenly to the side with pins sticking out. The humidity kicked her curls into gear, and already they were springing wild, refusing to be tamed. Snapping blue eyes glared at him, framed in black liner and some sparkly shadow. She never wore makeup. But today, those stunning navy eyes dominated her heart-shaped face with a sultry, sexy air he rarely spotted from her. Four-inch stiletto diamond-encrusted heels stuck out from her balloon hoop gown. Wolfe caught the flash of white lace garters and curved, muscled legs before she flipped the skirt back down and huffed out a breath. “Are you smoking on my damn wedding day? You told me you quit. Julietta’s going to kill you.”

He fought past his lack of speech and wondered if this was a hallucination. “Not if you don’t tell her.”

She sniffed. “You wish. I don’t want you to die of lung cancer. Don’t just stand there gaping. Help me up, I can barely move in this thing.”

And then she was just Gen again. His best friend, a general pain in the ass, and the most precious person in the world to him.

Wolfe moved fast and pulled her up. “Are you okay? Did you fall out the window?”

She rebalanced herself on those ridiculous heels and waved her hand in the air. “Yeah, I’m fine. My hips got stuck but I managed.”

She dusted off her pristine white dress as if jumping out of church windows were a normal occurrence. Damn, she was a hell of a woman. “Umm, babe? Are you pulling a runaway bride thing? Or did you just want to confirm the fire exit worked?”

Her ballsy humor faded from her face. She tilted her chin up, and her lower lip trembled. “I’m in trouble. Will you help me?”

He kept his face calm even though his palms sweat. Something bad had happened, but right now she needed his head in the game. “We ditching the groom?”

“Yeah.”

Wolfe decided to play it like a big adventure. “Cool. I got you covered. Lose the shoes.”

She kicked off the killer stilettos. “Are there reporters out there?”

“No worries, this is a piece of cake. But we gotta move now. Take my hand.”

She placed her small hand in his and squeezed. Wolfe swore that even if he had to fight the whole Taliban, he was getting her out of here and to someplace safe. Discussion was for later. “My car is parked down the street so we’re good. Follow me.”

He led her down the back steps, behind the rectory, and maneuvered through a perfectly formed line of flowering bushes. She paused in flight, wincing at the chips of mulch and gravel. “Ouch.”

“You’re such a girl. Here, you’re going too slow.” Wolfe heaved her up into his arms in a tumble of satin and lace and cut through some weeping willow trees.

“I can’t believe you parked so far away. That means you were late. Some best friend you are.”

“Be glad I was late. I’m saving your ass now.”

She gave a humph. He walked faster, sensing chaos and a complete breakdown not too far behind. If he didn’t get her out in time and anyone caught them leaving, it would be a virtual shitstorm. He ducked under a low-hanging branch, tracked through the backyard of a Cape Cod behind the church, and took a hard right. She stayed silent, and Wolfe bet he had two minutes before her crazy impulsive decision hit her and she said she’d go back.

But if something made her run, it was too important to ignore. The hell he’d take her back.

Finally, he spotted his black Mercedes convertible. He fished the keys out of his pocket, hit the alarm, and opened the door. “In.”

Another lower lip tremble. “Wolfe, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I should go back.”

“Do you want to marry him, Gen? Deep down, in your gut, where it counts?”

Her teeth sank into her lower lip. Shame and fear and humiliation etched out the lines of her face. Her voice broke on the word “No.”

He nodded and calmly pushed her in the seat.

“Then you’re doing the right thing and we’ll work it out. I promise.”

She swallowed. Returned his nod. And slid into the car.

Wolfe wasted no time. He revved the engine and did a three-point turn, going out the back way and speeding away from the church like it was a devil’s sanctuary and their souls were at risk.

When they hit the open road and no one seemed to be following, he glanced over. She slumped in the seat, her hair hanging halfway down her neck, her graceful profile carved in stone. She stared out the window as if she was watching her life dissipate behind her. And in a way, it was.

Knowing what she needed the most right now, Wolfe hit the speaker system and Guns N’ Roses blasted out, hard and loud and raw. He didn’t speak.

Just drove.

Welcome to today’s stop on the tour for Crushed! We have a guest post from author Lauren Layne here on the blog today!

Forget the book boyfriend—what about the book BFF?!

Thanks so much for letting me stop by to chat about CRUSHED!

I know we authors are supposed to love all our babies (books) equally, and I do! I really do. But I’d be lying if I wasn’t slightly partial to CRUSHED, because …

My heroine, Chloe Bellamy, … (brace yourself, while I go all braggy…) BFF material.

I didn’t sent out to write her that way, but I know once I’d finished that she was my most solid heroine yet.

She’s feisty and funny, has frizzy hair, wears a larger dress size than the average romance heroine, but most of all, she’s kind. She’s a friend to Michael even when he pushes her away, she’s a good deal nicer to her sister than her sister perhaps deserves. She says what she’s thinking, when she thinks it, and she wears her heart on her sleeve like none other.

Quite honestly? I have a girl crush.

So often we romance readers (myself included!) get obsessed with our book boyfriends. And gosh, why wouldn’t we? I myself am partial to a quiet alpha—I mean, give me a guy that wears glasses AND has a six-pack, and you’ll have to wipe the drool off my face.

But lately I’ve been noticing a disturbing trend of heroine-hating! Okay, maybe hate is a strong word, but generally speaking, we romance readers are a lot harder on the heroines than the heroes!

You know, like if a hero acts like a jerk for 2/3 of the book, he’s “damaged.” But if a heroine has a few flaws, she’s “unlikable.”

I too have been so guilty of this double-standard, which has got me thinking … maybe it’s time for a little girl power!

How about it ladies?!

In honor of Chloe Bellamy, in all her curvy, mouthy glory, I want t know … who’s YOUR favorite heroine of all time?

Lauren Layne’s latest novel about the healing power of redemption tells the story of a crush gone wickedly wrong, proving that what you want isn’t always what you need.

Growing up in New York, Michael St. Claire never expected to spend his twenties wearing cowboy boots. But that was before he learned about his real father, a total stranger with a family in Cedar Grove, Texas. Once in the Lone Star State, Michael meets Kristin Bellamy, who is exquisitely refined and everything Michael always thought he wanted in a woman. The only problem is that Kristin is dating Michael’s new half-brother, Devon.

Kristin’s mouthy, curvy sister Chloe has always been in love with Devon Patterson. So when Michael offers to help Chloe break up Devon and Kristin, Chloe agrees to a deal that seems too good to be true. Before long, Chloe finally gets her man, only to make a startling discovery: She no longer wants the guy she had to fight for—she wants the one who stood by her side.

After all he and Chloe have been through, Michael swears he’s damaged goods. Can Chloe convince him that love is worth the risk?

Lauren currently lives in Chicago with her husband and spoiled Pomeranian. When not writing, you’ll find her at happy hour, running at a doggedly slow pace, or trying to straighten her naturally curly hair.
