Not so invisible girl.
And maybe less of a jerk-faced bully than originally thought.
What’s the worst (or the best) that could happen?

Kaitlyn is finding life outside of the science cabinet of obscurity to be quite illuminating …and so are her pants.
When things heat up between Kaitlyn Parker and Martin—previously known as the jerk-faced bully—Sandeke, she places her trust in the one person she never thought capable of earning it, let alone keeping it safe. Fortunately or unfortunately for Kaitlyn, where she gives her trust she can’t help but also give her heart.

But how will the world beyond the sanctuary of their newfound connection react to their relationship? Soon senators, chinless billionaires, and elements beyond Martin and Kaitlyn’s control want to weigh in on the young couple’s future.

Navigating the chaotic inferno of new love might be more than Kaitlyn bargained for, and much, much more than her trust—or her heart—can handle.

WOW. Wowowow!!!! I freaking loooove Kaitlyn and Martin! Penny Reid blew me away AGAIN with this second installment of the Elements of Chemistry series. Heat was so deliciously hot and sexy… It’s title is very apt for the stuff that goes on between Kaitlyn and Martin in this book. I was a little disappointed how there wasn’t as much heat as I wanted in the first book… but I should’ve known I spoke too soon, because ALL that sexiness goes down in Heat. And while I loved the hot and heavy stuff, what shines in this novel is the incredible character development and relationship growth for Kaitlyn and Martin. Penny Reid is a fantastic writer who’s able to capture the wonder and passion of true love, as well as its hardships and downfalls.

“Maybe you’re right, maybe I don’t know how to treat people. But I meant it when I said that I… fucking hell, I want you. I like you. I’m all in. I’m not a liar and I’m doing my best here. You need to meet me part way.”

I loved getting to know more about Kaitlyn and Martin and getting to see how their relationship expanded and developed. These two are meant to be together, and they’re trying to find a way to make their relationship work and survive once they’re back in the real world. The chemistry amps up in Heat, but so do the frustrations. Kaitlyn and Martin are both highly intelligent people, but they’re not perfect. Despite their flaws, I still loved these two characters. I’m a bit addicted to them and their story. They have so many beautiful, tender, sweet moments that it’s hard not to fall in love with them.

“I don’t think you understand how badly I want you.”

I was utterly swept away by this book. Falling in love is a completely new concept for Kaitlyn and Martin and being in love changes how they view themselves and each other. Kaitlyn has always been a cautious person, guarding her heart, but with Martin, she’s able to open up and trust another person with her heart. Martin is completely head-over-heels in love with Kaitlyn and willing to do almost anything for her, when in the past he was very much a selfish person. Their romance is one that is unique, heartfelt, honest, and real.

“Why do people care about each other? What is attraction? I can’t give you a list of reasons why I react to you like I do. This isn’t an equation to balance. You’re the one I’m always thinking about. It’s you. It just is.”

Both Kaitlyn and Martin were a little frustrating in this book, so that’s why I can’t give a full 5-heart rating. Still, if you loved Attraction, you are going to LOVE Heat. Penny Reid just continues to amaze me with the incredible amount care she puts in the depth and growth in her characters. This book – this series – is well-written, witty, and so much fun to read.

Penny ReidSEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. Just friends.
We’re just friends.
No, really. She’s just my best friend…

Arizona Turner has been my best friend since fourth grade, even when we “hated” each other. We’ve been there for one another through first kisses, first “times,” and we’ve been each other’s constant when good relationships turned bad. (We even went to colleges that were minutes away from each other…)

Throughout the years, and despite what anyone says, we’ve never crossed the line.

Never thought about it.
Never wanted to.

Until one night changed everything.
At least, it should’ve

Just friends.
We’re just friends.
I’m only saying this until I figure out if she’s still “just” my best friend…

First thoughts upon finished this book: Awwww!!!!! *goofy smile*

Let me tell you, I had been eagerly looking forward to Sincerely, Carter. First, it’s a friends-to-lovers romance, which I’m a total SUCKER for. And second, it’s Whitney Gracia Williams! I really enjoyed her Reasonable Doubt series so I had high expectations about Sincerely, Carter… and I adored it! I literally couldn’t stop smiling for most of the book. It’s a heartwarming, sweet, humorous friends-to-lovers romance that fans of the trope are sure to enjoy. I was addicted to Ari and Carter’s story!

“Some people come into your life for a reason, some a season, and some a lifetime.“

Whitney completely NAILED the friendship between Carter and Ari. They’ve been best friends since they were in fourth grade and they’ve been attached at the hip ever since. They’ve been through everything together and they know each other so well. I could just feel the strength of that bond of friendship between them. Everyone they know always questions whether or not they’re actually “just friends”, but Ari and Carter have honestly never thought about each other in a non-platonic way. But when Ari and Carter begin a new chapter of their lives after graduating college – Carter is off to law school and Ari is going to a culinary arts school – things start to change between them…

I turned to my left to look at Ari again, hoping that the past few minutes were a mistake–that I was in the middle of a strange daydream. That there was no way I could be this attracted to her right now–no way I could want to tell her to pull over so I could taste her lips. Both sets of them.
Holy fucking shit….

I love that it completely baffles both Ari and Carter that they feel an intense attraction towards one another. One minute they think of each other as platonic best friends, and the next… they can’t stop thinking about the other person. What they’re like naked. In bed. God, I couldn’t stop smiling and giggling at how much they realized they wanted each other. Lines are crossed and hearts are on the line and they soon come to realize that the best thing that ever happened to them has been standing next to them all along.

“I’ve loved you since fourth grade. Since fourth fucking grade. … I just didn’t know it. You’ve been there for every moment of my life and I’ve been there for yours, too. I do love you, I am in love with you, and I also know you better than you know yourself.”

I absolutely loved the banter between Carter and Ari. They send each other texts and emails that are so freaking adorable. And the flashbacks of their younger years together adds such great depth and humor to the story. The author did a fantastic job balancing the sweetness of their friendship and the sexiness of their newfound desire for each other. My only complaint is that I felt it was too abrupt when Carter and Ari started getting together. It felt a bit rushed – their friendship I connected with from the start, but the love between them took a little more time to feel. Still, this was a fantastic friends-to-lovers romance that put me in such a great mood while reading. I definitely recommend it!

Release Day Review: The Mistake by Elle Kennedy

The Mistake by Elle Kennedy

The Mistake by Elle Kennedy
Series: Off-Campus #2 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: April 28th 2015

He’s a player in more ways than one…

College junior John Logan can get any girl he wants. For this hockey star, life is a parade of parties and hook-ups, but behind his killer grins and easygoing charm, he hides growing despair about the dead-end road he’ll be forced to walk after graduation. A sexy encounter with freshman Grace Ivers is just the distraction he needs, but when a thoughtless mistake pushes her away, Logan plans to spend his final year proving to her that he’s worth a second chance.

Now he’s going to need to up his game…

After a less than stellar freshman year, Grace is back at Briar University, older, wiser, and so over the arrogant hockey player she nearly handed her V-card to. She’s not a charity case, and she’s not the quiet butterfly she was when they first hooked up. If Logan expects her to roll over and beg like all his other puck bunnies, he can think again. He wants her back? He’ll have to work for it. This time around, she’ll be the one in the driver’s seat…and she plans on driving him wild.

The Mistake is another complete WIN from Elle Kennedy!! I had such high expectations for this book after reading and adoring The Deal. I wasn’t sure if I would love Logan as much as I loved Garrett, but I do! I absolutely LOVED Logan in The Mistake – he’s laugh-out-loud hilarious, so adorable, and even though he makes mistakes with Grace, he owns up to them. I was hooked onto Logan and Grace’s story from the very start and I never wanted this book to end! If you’re a fan of The Deal, you DON’T want to miss The Mistake!

If you’ve read The Deal, then you know that Logan has a crush on his best friend’s girlfriend, Hannah. Logan is ashamed of feeling this way, but he can’t help feeling jealous of the love his best friend has found. And since he would never do anything to betray Garrett’s trust, Logan drinks and sleeps with girls to numb his misery. Not even the prospect of graduation makes him happy because he knows that when college is over, he won’t be able to do what he loves most anymore: play hockey. But meeting beautiful, sweet, innocent Grace and spending time with her seems to make him forget about Hannah and post-graduation. With each sexy encounter, the chemistry between them grows until Grace is all Logan can think about.

“What are you doing?” I whisper.
“Well, you were looking at me like you wanted me to kiss you.” His blue eyes become heavy-lidded. “So I was thinking I might do that.”

Freshman Grace Ivers never expected star hockey player John Logan to ever give her the time of day, but when she spends more time with him, she sees that there’s so much more to Logan than just a playboy hockey star. She has an insane attraction for him, but underneath that, she grows to care for him. So she’s humiliated and hurt by Logan when he messes things up between them. Freshman year doesn’t exactly end well for Grace, but sophomore Grace has changed and she has no time for stupid, sexy Logan, even when he tries to fix the mistake he made with her.

I absolutely LOVED Grace!! She’s awkward and hilarious with her nervous ramblings, a little sassy, definitely smart, but so down-to-earth and relatable. She’s the type of heroine I would love to be friends with. I loved how no-nonsense she was after Logan ended up hurting her, and how SHE wouldn’t give HIM the time of day. She’s really the perfect match for Logan. But Logan, my lovable, hot, clueless Logan, is truly genuine about getting back into Grace’s life and into her heart. And hot damn, Logan is seriously sexy as hell, with enough sweetness in him to make him the most swoon-worthy hero. He has a lot to make up for with Grace – and he completely stole my heart with the way he went about it. Here is one sweet and sexy alpha hockey star determined to win the heart of the girl he’s falling in love with… how can you not love him!?

“I need you. I can’t stand the thought of being without you.” He releases a shaky breath. “You’re the last person I think about before I go to sleep, and the first person I think about when I open my eyes in the morning. You’re it for me, baby.”

God, I LOVED this book!! Well-written, hilarious, heartwarming, so freaking sweet… Logan and Grace’s story was an absolute delight to read. The Mistake has so many light-hearted moments, especially when all the hockey boys are together, and at the same time there’s also a depth and seriousness with Grace and Logan that makes this book all the more meaningful. Elle Kennedy truly has a gift with the way she’s able to bring all these characters to life. Even as Grace and Logan fall in love, it’s also a journey of self-discovery for both of them. I never wanted their story to end.

The Off-Campus series is quickly becoming a top favorite series of mine. This is new adult at its finest! I really hope Elle Kennedy writes more books in this series, and that Dean is next!

Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Oh my gosh… I freaking. LOVED. This. Book. I’ve never read anything by Penny Reid before, but now… I think I’m going to go gorge myself on all of her books! I loved the writing in this one… and don’t even get me started on the humor – God, I just loved everything about Attraction! It’s a witty, hilarious book with endearing characters I grew to love so much. As soon as I started reading this, I couldn’t put it down – and I couldn’t stop laughing either! I simply adored Attraction. It’s now one of my TOP reads of the year so far!

Kaitlyn Parker and Martin Sandeke are chemistry lab partners. Kaitlyn’s an adorable nerd while Martin is their university’s rowing captain – as well as the school’s hottest, richest, most eligible bachelor. They couldn’t be more different… but it turns out they’re absolutely PERFECT together. That is, when they actually get together. Kaitlyn doesn’t think Martin has even noticed her at all over the course of the school year, but when circumstances put them together outside of the chem lab, it turns out they have a wicked chemistry (hehe) together. And Martin’s been wanting Kaitlyn for a while.

“Haven’t you ever wondered why I come on Fridays?” His fingers curled around my neck and his thumb traced circles along the line of my collarbone. He encouraged my head to tip backward.
“So that we can get a jump start on the weekly assignment?”
He shook his head. “You.”

Kaitlyn is rightfully worried about this playboy and his intentions. But she can’t ignore how her body reacts to him, and she agrees to spend a week with him (along with her best friend and Martin’s rowing teammates) on a private beach to see if what they have together is worth pursuing.

“There is nothing temporary about how I want you.”

My favorite thing about Attraction is how incredible a heroine Kaitlyn is. Penny Reid wrote her in such a dorky, quirky, hilarious, relatable way that I couldn’t help but love her! She felt real and genuine, and I adored her. She’s a very intellectual person, but being with Martin brings out a sensual side of her she never knew existed. I loved the way she talked and thought, even when she was being over-the-top. Kaitlyn was just so much FUN to read! Penny Reid did a fantastic job in creating such a wonderful character like her!

Oh, Martin. How I love thee. At first, not much is known about Martin other than his altheticism, his wealth, and his playboy ways, buuuut I fell in love with him the second he appeared in this book. He’s sexy, domineering, and gives off such a powerful presence, but he’s also so tender and sweet with Kaitlyn. The way he cares for and wants Kaitlyn is unlike anything he’s ever felt, and this comes across so clearly in his actions and words. I mean, he’s still got to prove to Kaitlyn that he’s in this for the long run, but the ways he goes about proving it will make your heart melt and swoon. And did I mention how SEXY Martin is!? The chemistry and tension in this book is off the charts. They way Martin shows Kaitlyn how much he wants her is just too hot for words. Just… hot. damn.

I loved this book. I loved getting to know Kaitlyn and Martin, and I loved reading how they get to know each other. They are so perfect for each other, and it’s so easy to see that they belong together. I’ve already reread this book countless times, that’s how much I loved Attraction. I wish I had all of the Elements of Chemistry books to read ASAP – I honestly can’t get enough of these two fantastic characters! And I wish I read Penny Reid sooner! I’ll definitely be reading more of her other books, because her writing is just fantastic.

Review: Fuel the Fire by Krista & Becca Ritchie

Protect your family. At all costs.

It’d take the impossible to hurt Connor Cobalt, even for a moment.

Protect your family. At all costs.

At twenty-six, his narcissistic tendencies have made room for the people he loves.

Protect your family. At all costs.

And he loves Rose. But when his love is threatened, when his greatest dreams with her are compromised — what is the cost then?

Protect your family. At all costs.

Love will guide his choices.
For the first time in his life.

“I’m tragically in love with you, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Fuel the Fire was simply incredible. I laughed, I shed some tears, and I never thought I could love a couple as much as I do Rose and Connor. This is their final book, and it’s here that we see these two wonderful characters truly shine in their element. If you’ve read Kiss the Sky and loved them? Thought you knew them? Well, Fuel the Fire will have you discovering so many more beautiful things about Rose and Connor, and you’ll definitely be falling in love with them all over again. In this book, they’ll be put to the ultimate test… and the stakes are so much higher now with their loved ones – their beloved daughter, siblings, friends – on the line.

I never realized how bored I had been with life. How mundane my surroundings looked. How unchallenged I’d become.
I never realized all of these things.
Until I met her.

I don’t want to say much about the plot because I think it’s best to go into this book blind, but I will say that I absolutely adored getting to know Connor and Rose. I mean, getting to know them MORE. So much more. We get to experience their lives as a married couple, as parents, and we also get to see how they were as teenagers. And still, I wanted more. I honestly could read about Connor and Rose forever. They’ve come a long way since we first met them in Addicted to You – Connor, the narcissist incapable of love, and Rose, the cold-hearted bitch. Now, they’ve both accepted love into their lives and they’ve become so much better for it. They’re a part of a family they’ll do anything to protect, even if it’s their own lives at stake.

Together, we’re a force of nature to be reckoned with. That’s not my hubris speaking. It’s just the truth.

When I think of the word POWER COUPLE, Connor and Rose are IT. This couple is one-of-a-kind – they are two of the most intelligent, captivating, fascinating, loving characters I’ve ever read, and the dynamics of their relationship are flawless. Theirs is an intellectual love, though I’m definitely not discounting the physical aspect of their relationship (*cough* Connor is a sex god *cough*). The outside world may not SEE their love or understand it, but in private, there is no doubting the fierce, passionate, heartwarming love they have for each other. If you loved Connor and Rose’s relationship in Kiss the Sky, you are going to LOOOOVE how they are in Fuel the Fire. Their bantering in French, their glares and smirks, everything is the same and yet not. There’s a depth to everything that wasn’t there in Kiss the Sky, which makes me all the more grateful that the authors decided to write a second book for Rose and Connor.

There are rare people who will fuel the fire inside of you, who will awaken a dormant passion, who will challenge you, who will push you and better you. She alone is my rarity.

Of course, we also get to see the rest of the Addicted gang! Plus some Willow and Garrison (who I pray will have a book of their own!). Family is such an important aspect of this series, and I’m in total awe of how Krista and Becca Ritchie continue to write these characters so richly with such heart and depth. They write these characters that I wish they were real. This series is the only one I can think of where I 100% love ALL the characters (although my love for Connor is more like 150%).

If you can believe it, I actually took my time with Fuel the Fire. I spent this whole past week reading this gigantic book (I say this with love, because chubby books – at least Krista & Becca’s chubby books – are the best!) without rushing. I honestly just didn’t want to let go of Connor and Rose. This couple is my absolute FAVORITE of the Addicted series (sorry LiLo and Raisy!). Actually, Rose and Connor make up one of my favorite couples of all-time, so I’m so incredibly sad that we won’t have their POVs anymore. GAH! Just thinking about this makes my heart hurt.

Honestly, I’m so happy to have had the privilege of reading about and getting to know Connor and Rose. Fuel the Fire was phenomenal. I didn’t think I could love Connor and Rose more after Kiss the Sky, but I was wrong. I’m going to miss Connor and Rose so much!

“Every day of my life, I am enamored. Every day of my life, I am bewitched. And every day of my life, I spend it with her.”

Fuel the Fire is the 3rd book in the Calloway Sisters series, a spinoff series of the Addicted series. While it’s not necessary to read the Addicted series before the Calloway Sisters series, I HIGHLY recommend it! All the characters are first introduced in the Addicted series, so you get a fuller, richer experience if you read the Addicted series before/along the Calloway sisters series. Plus, it’s just a freaking AWESOME series to read! Here is the full reading order of the Addicted/Calloway Sisters series.
