Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

Sinner (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #4) by Maggie Stiefvater
Release Date: July 1st 2014

A standalone companion book to the internationally bestselling Shiver Trilogy.

Sinner follows Cole St. Clair, a pivotal character from the #1 New York Times bestselling Shiver Trilogy. Everybody thinks they know Cole’s story. Stardom. Addiction. Downfall. Disappearance. But only a few people know Cole’s darkest secret — his ability to shift into a wolf. One of these people is Isabel. At one point, they may have even loved each other. But that feels like a lifetime ago. Now Cole is back. Back in the spotlight. Back in the danger zone. Back in Isabel’s life. Can this sinner be saved?

“Legions of fans — myself included — have wanted Maggie to return to the world of Shiver, and now she’s found an ingenious, sexy, utterly compelling way to do it,” says David Levithan, VP/Publisher and Editorial Director, Scholastic Press. “This isn’t so much a re-visitation as it is a reinvention, with Maggie taking readers to many places they’ve never been with her before. There is nothing quite so amazing as Maggie Stiefvater at the top of her game.”

Author Maggie Stiefvater says, “For me, finishing the Shiver trilogy was a bittersweet moment — I knew that I wouldn’t be returning to Mercy Falls once Sam and Grace’s story was over. But Cole and Isabel still lurked in the back of my mind. Both of them were only half-fixed at the end of the trilogy, and I wanted to know if they could be fixed the rest of the way.”

Snippets!!

★ Colleen Hoover posted on her Facebook a teaser for Maybe Someday!!

His eyes fall to my legs, and I have to cross them, because the way his gaze penetrates my body makes it seem as though he can see right through this dress I’m wearing.

His eyes close tightly, and knowing the effect I’m having on him makes me feel as if there might be a lot more truth to these lyrics than he’d like there to be:

“It’s making me feel like I want to be the only man that you ever see.”

Ridge suddenly stands and drops his phone onto the bed, then walks straight into the bathroom and slams the door. I listen as the shower curtain slides open and the water kicks on.

I roll onto my back and release all my pent-up breaths.

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “You didn’t do or say anything to make me mad.”

He didn’t respond for a moment. “But I slept on your floor and you slept on the couch?”

“Yeah … uh, you sort of fell down and stayed there.” I shrugged a shoulder. “I fell asleep on the couch.”

“Nice.” He coughed out a short laugh. Several seconds passed, and I considered making a mad dash out of the car. “We’re friends, right?”

“Already explained that, honey, but I’ll explain something else to you. When I want something, I go for it. Life is way too damn short to live any other way. And I want to get to know you better.” Those lashes lowered one more time, his gaze tracking to my lips like they were some kind of mecca. “Yeah, I want to definitely get to know you better.”

When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn’t come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.

Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she’s used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.

★ The next book in the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines might be about… Krit? From Abbi’s Facebook:

When I wrote Because of Low I fell in love with Cage York and I had to write While It Lasts next. THE SAME THING has happened while writing Misbehaving. I have fallen in love with Krit. I realized his book would have to be next after writing this scene in Misbehaving:

“I’m not in the mood for guys,” I told him.

Krit shot up in bed and looked down at me. “Holy hell, love. Are you saying you want a woman? ’Cause I’ll pay shitloads of money to see you with another woman. Fucking cut off my left nut to watch that.”

I shoved him and grimaced, causing him to laugh. “You’re so ridiculous. Of course not. That isn’t what I mean. I just don’t want the flirting and touching and all that.” (this is a scene with Krit and Jess from Misbehaving) For those of you who don’t remember Krit he is the lead singer in the band that the Sea Breeze crew goes to see play at Live Bay. He is also Trisha’s (Rock’s wife) little brother.

NEW BOOK ALERT!! Ever read the Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater? (If you haven’t, you should! It’s incredible–one of my favorite series of all time.) Well, Maggie told us that she’ll be writing a new book in the series, book #3.5, called Sinner, that focuses on Cole! I totally fell in love with Cole in the previous books, and can’t wait to see how his story will go!

Summary – A standalone companion book to the internationally bestselling Shiver Trilogy.

REMY by Katy Evans cover is here!

Remy by Katy Evans

Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. He might grasp his own thoughts at times and forget what he did in others. But through it all, there is one constant. The constant of wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas with every fiber of his being. Remy is his story from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he’s ever had to fight for, to the moment she becomes his.

Olivia Cunning is writing a new book for the Sinners on Tour series called Sinners at the Altar! (From Goodreads) This anthology will include the wedding day stories of all five Sinners told in their points of view. It will also include the Aruba honeymoon of the couple who started it all, Brian and Myrna. The ebook version of Sinners at the Altar will have some added special features, such as never before released deleted scenes from the original books. Don’t miss it!

Early Review: The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
Series: The Raven Cycle #2 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: September 17th 2013
Purchase: Ebook • Hardcover • Paperback
Source: I received an ARC from the publisher (Scholastic Press) in exchange for an honest review

The second installment in the all-new series from the masterful, #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater!

Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after…

I don’t spoil anything for The Dream Thieves, but there may be spoilers for The Raven Boys, so proceed with caution if you haven’t read it!

Wow. This book pretty much blew my mind. I can honestly say that nothing in this book was anything I could expect, and it was fantastic! I had so much fun reading this, there were so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and I am just in awe of the superb writing. Truly, the writing is stunning.

I absolutely adore Maggie Stiefvater. I fell in love with her Wolves of Mercy Falls series and The Scorpio Races. And I don’t know how she does it, but the way she writes is just… magical and alive. The words and thoughts and phrases flow so well, and the writing in The Dream Thieves is no different. Even in the prologue you can’t help but take notice of the writing. It’s gorgeous, it sticks out to you, it makes you think or remember, and it’s filled with such vivid imagery. LOVED it so much.

The characters are probably my absolute favorite part of this book and series. We have the major characters: Blue, Gansey, Ronan, and Adam. Noah is sadly not as important as he was in The Raven Boys. We are introduced to a new character, the Gray Man, who is a hit man(!!). He’s a fantastic addition to the book, and I was very intrigued by his character. Blue’s family is as crazy as ever, but still helpful in their magic-y ways. Each character is important in their own ways, even Kavinsky, who’s a total scumbag, and I love the fact that Maggie Stiefvater is able to keep me interested in ALL of the characters throughout the entire book. Each character has their own little story that does connect in the end with the story as a whole, but I never got tired of any one person.

Gansey, Adam, Blue, and Ronan are the best. I love them SO much. They’re the type of people I wish were real, so I could be friends with them, hang out with them, find Glendower with.

In that moment, Blue was a little in love with all of them. Their magic. Their quest. Their awfulness and strangeness. Her raven boys.

Gansey is the natural leader, the charismatic one. Ronan was my favorite in The Raven Boys, but now… Gansey totally stole the spotlight. I found myself eager to read more of him, because he’s just so interesting! I love him and his Camaro. Blue is still the only girl in the group of boys, and she’s still cursed with killing her true love if she kisses him. There’s not much romance in this book, like in The Raven Boys, but things do change for Blue. And I’m pretty happy about it, though I didn’t expect to be. Ronan goes a bit crazy and self-destructive now that he knows he can take things from his dreams into reality. He learns more about himself and his power, and it’s a huge revelation. I’ve never read anything like Ronan and his power, and I was so hooked onto his part of the story. Adam is pretty pitiful, he doesn’t know what he wants in life, but he eventually starts making progress and choosing for himself.

All of the characters show such growth. It may or may not be huge change for them, but their relationships with one another shape them in a way that gives them the support they need. I just can’t imagine their group without Gansey, or Adam, or Blue, or Ronan. Their hearts and souls are all entwined, and if someone was missing, it would be like a vital part of them was missing. And oh gosh, the humor. The characters can be so snarky and witty and sarcastic sometimes. It’s not blatantly in-your-face kind of hilarious, but more of the quiet, subtle kind. The humor creeps up on you and before you know it, you’re smiling and laughing and falling in love with all the characters all over again.

And the ending was edge-of-your-seat incredible. It’s like everything in the book was building up this tension and leading up to the ending, and when you finally get there, everything explodes. It’s huge and it’s crazy and it’s the most amazing thing to read.

I really did love this book. There were times though, where I found myself getting confused and wondering what was going on, especially with Glendower and the ley lines and the dreams. But despite that, I found myself enjoying the book so much, I didn’t even care I was confused at times. I definitely recommend this book, for its writing, its characters, its uniqueness. But I also recommend going into this with a little bit of patience. It took a while for this book to warm up to me, but in the end, I adored it.

Top Ten Tuesday {7}: Books I Wish Could Have Had Sequels

top ten tuesday banner

It’s Top Ten Tuesday again, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s theme is …

Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Had Sequels

eleanor & park

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell: Even though I loved this book with all my heart, I would have given my left arm to have a sequel, or at least more at the end. If you’ve read this book, then you probably know what I mean. Eleanor & Park ends with an open ending (it’s kind of open and yet not-not sure how to explain it), but one that I though was fitting for the story. Still, I definitely wouldn’t mind a sequel.

Easy by Tammara Webber

Easy by Tammara Webber: I absolutely adored Easy. I loved Jacqueline and Lucas’s story, and when I got to the ending, I so wasn’t ready to leave them. A sequel would be perfect, but don’t despair folks! Lucas’s POV of Easy is in the works! *cue squealing*

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry: Yes, I know, there’s a sequel to this book, but technically, it’s more of a companion book. The sequel doesn’t go back to Noah and Echo (but I still loved it!). Still, I would have loved to read more about Noah and Echo, maybe about their road trip or even them in college. I just can’t get enough of them (especially Noah)!

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: My heart was just pounding at the end, because-horses!! Or mythological creatures that look like horses. The ending was sort of bittersweet, and I so wish that we could have known what would happen for Puck, Sean, and his horse, and especially whether Sean could go back to racing.

Forever by Maggie Stiefvater

Forever (Wolves of Mercy Falls #3) by Maggie Stiefvater: Another book by Maggie Stiefvater… I think I’m seeing a pattern here. But anyways, this ending was so open, and I totally get that the author wanted the readers to come up with their own conclusions, but still! A more concrete ending and I would have loved this book. Not that I didn’t enjoy the book, but I just wasn’t expecting such an ambiguous ending for a final book.

Requiem

Requiem (Delirium #3) by Lauren Oliver: This is also another final book of a series with an open ending. Even though I had no problem with the open ending (a lot of people did though), I wouldn’t have minded more. Like whether their world ended up okay, what happens with Lena’s relationship with Alex, or something like that.

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick: I loved this book. I fell head over heels in love with the story, Samantha, and the Garretts (JASE <3). The ending though, was a bit abrupt, and I think it didn’t resolve everything that happened with the accident. So a sequel? Yes please! I want more of Jase! I’d love to see his and Samantha’s relationship growing during the school year and maybe even beyond high school.

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta: This book is just beautiful. The words just stick to your heart. So I absolutely wouldn’t mind another book with more gorgeous writing. Melina Marchetta, I bow down to you. I don’t know how you do it, but I don’t really care to as long as you keep on writing incredible books. And with Jellicoe Road, I want more of Taylor and Jonah. They don’t get much of a chance to be together before Jonah has to leave, so a sequel would make me very happy.

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta: This book was fantastic as well. Melina Marchetta is seriously one of my absolute favorite authors, and if there’s another book by her, I will read it. So a sequel for Saving Francesca? I’m there. The Piper’s Son is sort of a sequel, but it’s more of a companion book. We see tiny glimpses of Francesca and WIll in that, but I would love love love another book for them, to see how they’re handling their long distance relationship.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Graceling by Kristin Cashore: Po! Po! Po! I just can’t get enough of him! I love him to bits 🙂 Even though we see a bit of him and Katsa in the companion books, I would love a sequel that’s dedicated to just them again. They’re one of my favorite couples ever, and I want more of them being together. I also miss the world; it’s been a while since Bitterblue was last released.
