Perfect for readers of Colleen Hoover, Jay Crownover, and K. A. Tucker, the first novel in this darkly sexy contemporary series from bestselling author Monica Murphy kicks off an emotionally powerful two-part tale of forbidden love.

Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I’m a fifteen-year-old again–the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She’s grown-up now–beautiful, quiet, composed–and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.

I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she’s safe.

Somehow we reconnect. We become friends . . . but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.

So, yeah, I’m stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she’ll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.

My father.

Oh. My. God. What an emotional read! This story is one of the most intriguing I’ve ever read, and it’s nothing like what Monica Murphy has previously written. It’s intense. Gritty. Raw. Captivating. Heartbreaking. It’s a story of innocence lost and hearts reconnecting. I’m pretty stunned at what Monica Murphy has created in Katie and Ethan’s story – this might be my favorite book of hers yet.

But I’m none of those things. Confident. Strong. Carefree. Those words belong to the old me. Once innocence is lost, you can never get it back. That’s my problem. I lost my innocence at the age of twelve, far too early. And the man who stole it from me will haunt me forever.

Eight years ago, when Katie Watts was twelve, she was kidnapped and raped by a serial killer. She’s a survivor, but for the past eight years, she’s lived in silence, a shell of herself, but no longer. Now, hoping to free herself of her past, she’s ready to tell her story of her abduction, and of the boy who saved her – her hero, her guardian angel… her kidnapper/rapist’s son.

Will Monroe, now Ethan Williams, has never forgotten the girl he saved. She haunts his dreams as his father haunts his nightmares, and now that Ethan has found Katie again, he can’t walk away from her a second time. The powerful connection that existed when they met all those years ago has never truly gone away, and Ethan is now compelled to be there for Katie, to be her hero and savior once more. The only problem is that when Ethan enters Katie’s life again, he doesn’t tell her the truth of who he is and hides behind his Ethan persona. So what happens when past is dying to be free and Ethan can’t hide who he is anymore?

I wanted her, body and soul, as much a part of me as breathing.

If you’re worried about how Monica Murphy portrays Katie’s kidnapping and rape, don’t be. The author does not romanticize what happens to Katie. She doesn’t write it in some gentler light, but neither does she go into all the details, all of which I appreciated.

Never Tear Us Apart is brilliantly written, told in Katie and Ethan’s past and present POVs. Monica Murphy had me feeling like I was experiencing every heart-wrenching feeling right alongside these characters. What was interesting to me was that the past wasn’t told in a consecutive timeline, and instead jumped around a bit, which threw me off sometimes. Ethan did weird me out in the beginning when he got a little too intense with his feelings for Katie, but otherwise, I was hooked onto this unputdownable story. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s different, and if you’re looking for something intriguing and unique, I highly recommend this book. Be forewarned though, this is a two-book series, so Never Tear Us Apart does end in a cliffhanger, but the cliffie is definitely worth the read.

Lady Sophie’s Society Splash

When Sophie, the least interesting of the Talbot sisters, lands her philandering brother-in-law backside-first in a goldfish pond in front of all society, she becomes the target of very public aristocratic scorn. Her only choice is to flee London, vowing to start a new life far from the aristocracy. Unfortunately, the carriage in which she stows away isn’t saving her from ruin . . . it’s filled with it.

Rogue’s Reign of Ravishment!

Kingscote, “King,” the Marquess of Eversley, has never met a woman he couldn’t charm, resulting in a reputation far worse than the truth, a general sense that he’s more pretty face than proper gentleman, and an irate summons home to the Scottish border. When King discovers stowaway Sophie, however, the journey becomes anything but boring.

War? Or More?

He thinks she’s trying to trick him into marriage. She wouldn’t have him if he were the last man on earth. But carriages bring close quarters, dark secrets, and unbearable temptation, making opposites altogether too attractive . . .

Sarah MacLean is, hands down, my favorite historical romance author. She always gets me so sucked into her stories and makes my emotions go haywire. I’m obsessed with her Rules of Scoundrels series, so when I heard she was writing a spinoff, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! The Rogue Not Taken is the first book in the new Scandals & Scoundrel series, and it was pure fun to read. It had a little Gossip Girl to it, a fantastic road trip, and hilarious, witty banter between the main characters. I didn’t love it quite as much as my favorites from the Rules of Scoundrels series, but if you’re a fan of Sarah MacLean, you still won’t want to miss this new series!

We first met Sophie Talbot in Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover, and even though I wasn’t a fan of her then, I’m a huge fan of her now. I really loved Sophie’s character. She’s funny, sarcastic, protective of her family, and she hates the way society treats her family with scorn. Sophie is the ‘uninteresting’ one of her sisters, but when she creates a scandal that shocks even her siblings, she decides to leave London and most importantly, Society. But along the way, she comes across the Marquess of Eversley, an infamous scoundrel she can’t help but dislike on sight.

He was everything he was purported to be. Scandalous. Sinful. An utter scoundrel. Everything Society vilified, even as it celebrated it.

King, also known as the Marquess of Eversley, has built his reputation as a scoundrel for a reason. So he shouldn’t be bothered that Sophie doesn’t like him based on his scoundrel ways, but for some reason he is. As the two of them are flung along on an adventure across England, they go head-to-head in the most entertaining, delightful of ways. To say the two of them don’t get along is an understatement – the first half of the book is filled with hilarious banter, and witty remarks are constantly exchanged. But what I loved most about their banter was that it allowed King to see Sophie as more than the ‘boring’ Talbot sister. The two of them slowly start to fall for each other during their little adventure, but King proves stubborn and won’t allow himself to ever be vulnerable again.

She thought too little of herself, and King had suddenly wished very much to change her mind. As insane as that sounded.
He blamed her beautiful smile.

The second half of this book is a lot more emotional than the first, and Sarah MacLean had my heart aching and pounding for her characters. And as usual, she writes some HOT scenes in The Rogue Not Taken – the chemistry between King and Sophie is on fire. The build-up of the steam between them is fantastic, but I really wish we could’ve gotten more than the one sex scene there was.

I really enjoyed The Rogue Not Taken – I loved Sophie, but King took me a while to warm up to. He was too stubborn sometimes and I wanted to shake him when he grew frustrating, but the ending definitely made up for it. This was a great series starter, and now I can’t wait to see what Sarah MacLean has in store for the rest of the series!

“If you want a bath, you’ll have to accept my help,” he said.

She pursed her lips at that, her gaze settling longingly on the steaming bath. “You mustn’t look.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it.” It might have been the most obvious lie he’d ever told.

Somehow, she believed it, nodding and throwing back the coverlet to step out of the bed. She came to her feet, the top of her head at his chin, and he resisted the urge to help her across the room. “How do you feel?” he asked, hearing the gravel in his words. He cleared his throat.

“As though I’ve been shot, I’d imagine.”

He raised a brow. “Clever. There’s food when you’ve bathed.” The words summoned a low growl from her, and her hands flew to her stomach. Her cheeks turned red, and he smiled. “I take it you are hungry.”

“It seems so,” she said.

“Food after the bath. And then sleep.”

She met his gaze. “You’re very domineering.”

“It’s a particular talent.”

“What with you being called King.”

“Name is destiny.”

She moved past him to the high copper bathtub. He resumed his place against the wall, arms crossed, watching her carefully as she reached down, her long fingers trailing in the hot water as she sighed her anticipation. The sound was like gunfire in the room—pure, unadulterated pleasure. It was delicious.

King stiffened. He was not interested in the lady’s pleasure.

If only someone would tell his body that.

The Lund name is synonymous with wealth and power in Minneapolis–St. Paul. But the four Lund siblings will each discover true love takes a course of its own. . . .

As the CFO of Lund Industries, Brady Lund is the poster child for responsibility. But eighty-hour work weeks leave him little time for a life. His brothers stage an intervention and drag him to a seedy nightclub . . . where he sees her: the buttoned-up blonde from the office who’s starred in his fantasies for months.

Lennox Greene is a woman with a rebellious past, which she conceals beneath her conservative clothes. She knows flirting with her boss during working hours is a bad idea. So when Brady shows up at her favorite dive bar and catches her cutting loose, she throws caution aside and dares him to do the same.

After sparks fly, Brady finds that keeping his hands off Lennox during office hours is harder than expected. Though she makes him feel alive for the first time in years, a part of him wonders if she’s just using him to get ahead. And Lennox must figure out whether Brady wants her for the accomplished woman she is—or the bad girl she was.

This is actually the first book I’ve read by Lorelei James, and it was so much fun to read. It’s a sweet contemporary romance with unique characters and little drama. I really enjoyed Brady and Lennox’s characters – Brady isn’t the typical millionaire hero, as he’s a little shy and awkward and has no social life, and Lennox is a woman with a wild past she’s trying to hide at her respectable job. Their romance is light and sweet, with just the right amount of intensity and sensuality to make for an incredibly satisfying read.

As CFO of Lund Industries, Brady Lund lives and breathes his job. He has zero social life, which his family has noticed and taken upon themselves to fix. They drag him out to a club, where it just so happens that the gorgeous blonde from the office that he’s had crush on for months is there too. So Brady finally decides to live a life other than his job, and he wants to start with Lennox.

Lennox Greene is shedding her wild-child past, and her job at Lund Industries is the beginning of her new life. But even though she can hide her tattoos under her clothes and take out her piercings, she can’t hide who she really is from Brady. With Brady, she can be her true self and deal with the baggage of her past. Falling for the millionaire CFO isn’t difficult, especially when the only time she comes alive is around him.

Brady curled his hand around the side of my face, his gaze firmly on the left side of my mouth. Then his thumb slid over to stroke my bottom lip. “This lip ring . . . Christ, do you have any idea how much I want to suck on it?”
The sexy way he growled that sent slow, delicious heat unfurling in my belly.
“Before the end of the day, Lennox, I’ll know what that metal feels like on my tongue.”

The steam in What You Need wasn’t crazy hot like I expected, but there was still a good amount to leave me satisfied. I adored how Brady is sexy-as-hell, and yet still a little awkward around Lennox. He’s definitely not a smooth playboy, which was something I appreciated. I’m a big fan of romances with rich heroes, but it’s a nice change to read about one who doesn’t have a revolving door of women.

If you love office romances, you’ll want to check this book out. Lennox and Brady are utterly sweet together, and I enjoyed the way their romance played out. This book is also so funny – mainly because of Brady’s family, and I’m hoping all of them will get books of their own! What You Need is a great start to a new series with the potential to become even better. I’m excited to read more from Lorelei James!

“I want more of you.”
“You have all of me.” I’d never said that to another man in my life and the fact I’d said it without conscious thought scared me a little.

Lady Clara, the fan-favorite character from Loretta Chase’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Dressmakers series, finally gets her own happily ever after!

Convenient marriages are rarely so…exciting. Can society’s most adored heiress and London’s most difficult bachelor fall victim to their own unruly desires?

Biweekly marriage proposals from men who can’t see beyond her (admittedly breathtaking) looks are starting to get on Lady Clara Fairfax’s nerves. Desperate to be something more than ornamental, she escapes to her favorite charity. When a child goes missing, she turns to Oliver Radford—a handsome, brilliant, excessively conceited barrister.

Having unexpectedly found himself in line to inherit a dukedom, Radford needs a bride who can navigate the Society he’s never been part of. If he can find one without having to set foot in a ballroom, so much the better. Clara—blonde, blue-eyed, and he must admit, not entirely bereft of brains—will do. As long as he can woo her, wed her—and not, like every other sapskull in London, lose his head over her…

Dukes Prefer Blondes is the first book I’ve read by Loretta Chase, and I adored it! The banter in this was an absolute delight to read – if her other books are anything like this one, I’m excited to read them all! As for the story in Dukes Prefer Blondes, I really enjoyed Clara and Raven’s romance. These two are highly intelligent people who couldn’t be more different, and yet feel so right together. There was a lot more depth to the both of them that surprised me, so if you love characters who are more than meets the eye, I highly recommend this book.

Her beauty surrounded her like a great stone wall. Men couldn’t see above, beyond, or through it. They certainly couldn’t think past it.
This was because men only looked at women. They didn’t listen to women, especially beautiful women.

Lady Clara Fairfax is tired of the rules of society that suffocate her because she’s a woman of status and beauty. No one sees past her outer looks, so when she gets biweekly proposals from men who don’t really want or know her real self, she rejects them all. She wants a husband who appreciates her brains more than her looks, one who will stimulate her mind and not make her go crazy with boredom. And the only person who seems to fit this bill is Oliver ‘Raven’ Radford, a barrister she asks for help to find a missing orphan.

Raven may be related closely to a duke, but he’s firmly a man of the working class. He’s dedicated to his work as a barrister and has always prized intelligence above all else. So he’s pleasantly surprised that the beautiful Lady Clara can keep up with his sarcasm and banter. The witty remarks between them are probably my favorite part of the book – the two of them had me giggling so much! You can also feel a certain chemistry between them through the banter, which sets up the romance for them perfectly.

Her Raven. Brusque and caustic. And funny. Unlike her, he said whatever he wanted to say. It didn’t matter where he was or with whom.
She, meanwhile, had to closely inspect in advance every gesture, act, and word for possible violations of ladyship rules. Except with him.

I loved how Raven was the only man to appreciate Clara for who she really was. She never had to pretend with him – she came alive around him, and vice versa. It’s a very slow, gradual romance that develops between these two characters, in between witty dialogue and sweet, more tender moments. There are also some great adventures as they try to find Clara’s missing orphan, and they come across some dangerous gang members. Overall, Dukes Prefer Blondes is a highly satisfying story, with fantastically well-written characters and even better banter. I can’t wait to read more from Loretta Chase!

I’m a huge fan of second chance romances, so when I read the blurb for The Last Round, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! While it wasn’t exactly what I expected, if you like your reads short and sweet, I’d recommend this book.

Julian and Natalia were childhood sweethearts who married years ago, but now their marriage is almost fallen apart. With Julian a champion boxer, he lives the wild life full of parties and drinks, and Natalia has finally had enough.

When Julian finds out that the love of his life is walking away from him the day he gets out of rehab, he realizes what a mess he’s made of his marriage and he’s going to fight for it – and them.

We get flashbacks of Julian and Natalia’s past, showing the sweet moments leading up to them falling in love for the first time. This was probably my favorite part of the book, because the actual second chance romance didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

I really wish the author would’ve delved deeper into Natalia and Julian’s characters, because what little we know of them wasn’t enough to make me connect with them or  their story. I liked and enjoyed this book for the most part, but I really wish it was more fleshed out and longer. It’s about half the length of a normal sized book, and it wasn’t long enough to really make me invested in the characters. Still, if you’re looking for a quick, emotional read, I’d still say to give this a try!

FLASHBACK of Julian and Natalia (High School Years)

My smile brightened with each step. This should be fun. His head was bent low as his fork stabbed into a baked potato.

Placing my tray down, I took a seat across from him. “If that was a living being lying on your plate, I’m sure you’d be charged for aggravated assault or even attempted murder. What has that poor potato done to you?”

He lifted his head, eyes meeting mine with a raised brow. He seemed both amused and annoyed I interrupted his train of thought.

“I eat alone,” he said, eyes tensed. Then he shoved a fork full of the loaded starch into his mouth. His tongue darted out and wiped clean his perfect lips. I wonder what it would be like to kiss Julian Rios.

“So do I!” I sounded a bit too bubbly, even for myself, but with a wide grin, I nestled further into the seat, crossed my legs, and reached for my apple. “We can eat alone together.”

“Why do I have the feeling you’re gonna make my life miserable?”

“But quite the contrary; by the time I’m done with you, you’re gonna want me part of your life every waking second.”

He scoffed. “I find that very difficult to believe.”

“Listen. I’m a freshman. You’re a junior. We have two long years together. Unless you switch schools, I’m all for bugging the hell out of you until you fall irresistibly in love with me.”

He pointed a plastic fork at me. “I’ve seen girls like you on The First 48. You’re one of those psycho obsessed chicks, right? I’m gonna have to get a restraining order, aren’t I?”

I never laughed so hard in my life and for a moment the cafeteria went quiet. Only the sound of my hooting bounced in the space. I froze and looked around along with Julian. I focused my gaze back on him, leaned in and whispered, “Everyone is staring at us.”

Julian moved in closer. “Because you’ve just crossed over dangerous grounds.”

Squinting, I mouthed, “You don’t scare me.”

“You scare me.”

A soft grin touched my lips. “Good.”
