When you can’t trust yourself, how can you ask anyone else to?

It’s been months since Aden Colt left the Army, and still the memories haunt him. When he moved into a tiny boat off the California coast, he thought he’d found the perfect place to escape life. Then Sawyer shows up and turns his simple life upside down. Beautiful and sophisticated, she seems out of place in this laid-back beach town. Something is pushing her to experience everything she can-including Aden. But as much as he wants her, starting a relationship with Sawyer puts them both at risk. For Aden, the past doesn’t stay there; it shows up unexpectedly, uncontrollably, and doesn’t care whose life it wrecks.

Tortured hero, anyone? If you’re looking for a book that will instantly hook you and has fantastically complex characters you can’t help but root for, you should definitely check out Wrecked. It’s intense, sexy, yet still has enough light-hearted moments to balance out the dark. I really enjoyed this read!

“I’m fucking wrecked without you.”

After being honorably discharged, Aden Colt arrived back on American soil wrecked from his time overseas. The loss of his men because of his mistake haunts him, and he can’t escape his nightmares. He secludes himself in a boat off the coast of San Diego, where he’s either drinking or fishing. It’s a quiet, simple, if lonely life – but everything changes when Sawyer Forrester enters his life.

Sawyer travels to San Diego to fulfill her dying twin sister’s wish – to pretend to be her while packing up all of Celia’s belongings so that the people who knew Celia would remember her as the adventurous, lively woman she was, rather than the sick, bed-ridden woman she is now. As the sister who was always overshadowed, Sawyer thinks she’ll have a tough time channeling her inner Celia. Sawyer has slight OCD, is terrified of germs, and never goes on adventures, so how can she possibly fool anyone? What Sawyer doesn’t expect is to come to love her time as Celia because of Aden. Aden, who she feels a draw, a connection with. He opens up a new world for her and makes her see that she is capable of so much more than she realized.

It’s the way he makes me feel like I’m the only woman in the world. He responds to every word I say, every sound that slips unabashed from my lips, as if I’m giving him a secret he’s been desperate to discover. When we’re together it’s as if I’m the air and he’s begging for his next breath.

But even as the two are undeniably drawn towards one another and can’t help but fall for each other, Aden’s demon’s are never far away… and oh yeah, Aden thinks Sawyer is Celia. Aden and Sawyer have a lot going against them, but the chemistry and connection they have is unlike anything they’ve ever felt, so how can they not pursue it?

“I don’t want to forget you.”
“I’ll make sure you never will… I’ll mark your fucking soul.” His lips touch the shell of my ear and he whispers, “The way you’ve marked mine.”

I’ll admit, as much as I enjoyed the story, I had a hard time connecting with the characters, mainly because I just couldn’t relate to them. Despite that, I loved how clearly the author was able to convey all the emotions coursing through the pages. Sawyer and Aden go through a roller coaster of emotions, the highs and lows all perfectly balanced so that I was entertained the whole way through. If tortured souls and self-discovery is your jam, make sure to pick up Wrecked!

Introducing book 1 in the Logan & Kayla saga of the Checkmate series from a secret duo of romance authors who teamed up under the USA Today Bestselling pseudonym, Kennedy Fox!

This second-chance romance will have you gasping and cheering this two on from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the final game?

***

Logan Knight is a real life knight in shining armor.
A detective godsend in a sleek black suit has me thinking less than secretive thoughts. Brooding and mysterious, he’s the kind of guy every girl instantly notices. Between his seductive smirk and charming good looks, it’s no wonder I can’t help the way he makes me feel whenever I’m near him.
Too bad he’s unavailable–or so he says.

He thinks I’m a do-gooder who shouldn’t get involved with a guy like him. His past is messy and relationships just add to that. He insists the timing is all wrong and he’s devoted to his career, but I don’t buy that excuse for a second. I see the way his body tenses and his jaw ticks every time another guy is around me. He just won’t admit it, but I’m more determined than ever to show him what he’s missing.

I’m a devoted animal rescuer and I’ll risk everything to save them, but when a dramatic turn of events puts both our lives at risk, I’m positive Logan will write me off for good. But when he asks for my help with a personal crisis, I know it’s my last chance to finally show him I can handle anything he throws my way–messy past and all.

He might think he has me all figured out, but I’ll prove him wrong no matter what he thinks. This game of push and pull has me running in circles. One wrong move and we could both lose.

Checkmate, Knight.

The first book in Logan and Kayla’s series wasn’t quite my favorite of the Checkmate Duet series, but I enjoyed their story nonetheless. It’s a fast, easy read with some over-the-top drama, and an AWFUL cliffhanger. I have to say that this cliffhanger was the WORST out of all three series – KF killed me with it, and I applaud them for it. So to say I’m excited for the next (and final!) book in the series would be an understatement.

Checkmate: This is Dangerous is a blend of friends-to-lovers and second-chance-romance, two of my favorite tropes. Kayla has had a crush on Logan since she first met him, but the mysterious man with a messy past has kept her firmly in the friend-zone… never mind the one or two kisses they shared. Logan’s life has no room for a woman, and despite how much he wants and cares for Kayla, he won’t make her settle for a guy who doesn’t deserve the wonder that she is.

I love love love dogs, so Kayla being an animal rescuer was perfect for me. Her character is adorable and sweet, if a little too sweet at times. She’s just so GOOD that it was sometimes unbelievable. Logan’s character grew frustrating after a while too, because of how slowly he revealed things to Kayla and him not making the effort to be with her sooner, damn the consequences. I do love a good man in uniform though, and Logan and Kayla together were on fire.

If you love the Checkmate Duet series, you will no doubt love Kayla and Logan. It’s just as crazy dramatic and intense as the previous reads. Just be prepared for that doozy of a cliffhanger, because it will have you DYING for the next book!

Early Review + Giveaway: The Red by Tiffany Reisz

The Red by Tiffany Reisz
Series: Standalone
Publication Date: July 11th 2017
Links: Ebook • Paperback • Goodreads
Source: I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

The Red is a standalone novel of erotic fantasy from Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling author of The Bourbon Thief and the Original Sinners series.

Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother’s art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it’s in the red.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.

The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting…but surely her mother didn’t mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red…

The Red is literally the hottest book I’ve ever read in my life, and I’ve read the Original Sinners series, which you know is saying something. The Red is erotica in its purest, dirtiest, and finest form… and I wholeheartedly LOVED IT. I normally don’t get into books without a romance or love story, but by god, if Tiffany Reisz writes something, I’ll read it. I trust her to to give her readers something that will blow their mind and their panties off, and she’s yet to disappoint. The Red is a beautiful erotic story about an art gallery owner who sells her body to a mysterious man to save The Red from bankruptcy. If you love Tiffany Reisz or erotica, then you do NOT want to miss this captivating read!

“You’re sitting on a goldmine, Mona. Literally”
She blushed. “I’ve never had my vagina called a goldmine before.”
“Perhaps I was referring to your arse.”
“Oh yes, hadn’t thought of that.”

Mona Lisa St. James promised her mother that she’d do anything to save her art gallery. But with The Red not doing so hot, Mona realizes it’s time to sell the place. Just when she’s about to give up, a mysterious man shows up at the gallery and offers her a deal: he will save The Red if she gives him carte blanche over her body once a month for a year. This wasn’t quite what she had in mind when she made her promise to her mother, but how can she resist the allure of the sexy man and the possibility of saving her gallery?

“You were meant to do this,” he said softly. “You’ll see.”
“Why me?” she asked. “Millions of women in this country, millions in yours… why me?”
“Millions of paintings in the world. Only one Mona Lisa. Billions of women in this world. Only one you, Mona Lisa St. James.”

Mona has no idea what to expect, and neither did I for that matter. I was in no way prepared for the ridiculously dirty, filthy things that the mystery man had in store for Mona, but I sure did love it. Every month, he sends Mona a piece of artwork that reflects the kind of sex he wants from her – and there’s honestly nothing romantic about it. It’s the no-holds-barred, raw, filthy kind of sex that you can only come up with in your fantasies, but they come to life for Mona thanks to him.

His money made her a whore, but his cock had made her his slave. She never wanted to taste freedom again. She only wanted to taste him.

I’ve honestly never been so turned on in my life while reading a book. I thought Tiffany Reisz succeeded with that with the Original Sinners, but it turns out I was wrong. If you’re looking for pure, decadent smut, look no further than The Red. It is the most incredible, entertaining read I’ve read in a while. I loved the twist at the end that had everything come full circle, though really, I never wanted this book to end. I can only hope Tiffany Reisz writes more books like this one!

ARC Review: The Sweetest Burn by Jeaniene Frost

The Sweetest Burn by Jeaniene Frost
Series: Broken Destiny #2 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: June 27th 2017
Links: Ebook • Hardcover • Paperback• Audible • Goodreads
Source: I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

The breathtaking second novel in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost’s Broken Destiny series finds Ivy and Adrian rekindling their alliance—and passion—as the struggle for the fate of the world begins…

Conquering a supernatural realm turned out to be easier than getting over a broken heart. But her initial victory has made Ivy a target for revenge, forcing her to reunite with the dangerous—and dangerously sexy—Adrian. Ivy isn’t sure which will be harder: finding the hallowed weapon that will repair the crumbling walls between the demon and human realms, or resisting Adrian, who’s decided that come hell or high water, he will make Ivy his.

At first, Adrian tried to resist his feelings for Ivy. Now, determined to break the curse that dooms their love, he’s vowed to save her and to have her. If only he can persuade her to forgive his past sins. But defying destiny—and surrendering to the smoldering desire between them—will bring consequences and sacrifices they never imagined…

It’s been about three years since the release of the first Broken Destiny book, so as excited as I was to read The Sweetest Burn, I was afraid I just wouldn’t be able to get into the story because it’d been so long since I was immersed in the Broken Destiny world. Thankfully, this didn’t happen – as soon as I opened up the first page of this long-awaited sequel, I was sucked back into this new(ish) world Jeaniene Frost created. It was almost as if I didn’t have to wait three years to read this, which impressed me immensely. If you were a fan of The Beautiful Ashes and have been waiting anxiously to continue the series, wait no more! Ivy and Adrian are back – and even better than they were before.

As the last Davidian, Ivy is the only person capable of wielding the three artifacts that hold the power to destroy demons and save humanity. Adrian is fated to be her enemy and downfall, but somehow fate got a little twisted and these two fell in love with each other. At the end of the first book, after finding the first artifact, Adrian had left Ivy for her own good – but now he’s back and ready to help Ivy again on her journey to finding the second and third artifacts, all the while proving his love and devotion to her.

“I didn’t want to know you, like you, need you, or most of all, love you, but I did. I still do. You are my destiny, Ivy, just not how everyone predicted. Now, when I think of the future, I think of spending it with you.”

Much of the first book felt like it was a set-up for the rest of the series. It had potential… and that potential was finally realized in The Sweetest Burn! I have to say I enjoyed this sequel so much more than the first book, mainly because of how much more I liked the characters. I felt like we get to know Ivy and Adrian a lot better, after all the trials and tribulations they overcome and still have waiting for them in the future.

This book was pretty fast-paced and easy to read. The action was intense and exciting, but it was definitely the romance that had me hooked onto the pages. I loved how determined Adrian was to win Ivy’s heart – he’s so lovable, charming, and protective! Ivy herself is a great heroine – a little too self-sacrificing, but I admired her strength and how she took to learning her newfound Davidian powers.

I’m SO excited to see how this series will end. There’s a little twist at the end of The Sweetest Burn that I’m sure will stir up a lot of trouble in the next and final book of this trilogy, and I can’t wait to see how it goes! I’m also so glad we don’t have to wait for another few years for the last book – it’s only a few months away in November!

Early Review: The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean

The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean
Series: Scandal & Scoundrel #3 (full reading order below)
Publication Date: June 27th 2017

The one woman he will never forget…

Malcolm Bevingstoke, Duke of Haven, has lived the last three years in self-imposed solitude, paying the price for a mistake he can never reverse and a love he lost forever. The dukedom does not wait, however, and Haven requires an heir, which means he must find himself a wife by summer’s end. There is only one problem—he already has one.

The one man she will never forgive…

After years in exile, Seraphina, Duchess of Haven, returns to London with a single goal—to reclaim the life she left and find happiness, unencumbered by the man who broke her heart. Haven offers her a deal; Sera can have her freedom, just as soon as she finds her replacement…which requires her to spend the summer in close quarters with the husband she does not want, but somehow cannot resist.

A love that neither can deny…

The duke has a single summer to woo his wife and convince her that, despite their broken past, he can give her forever, making every day

THE DAY OF THE DUCHESS

AAHHHHH I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK!!!!! This might honestly be my new all-time favorite book of Sarah MacLean’s (and if you know me, you know how much I loved One Good Earl Deserves a Lover). The angst had me in TEARS. I LOVED it. THIS is exactly the kind of book I want when I read a second chance romance (aka has a groveling hero who is unrelenting in his pursuit to win back the one and only love of his life). As soon as I finished The Day of the Duchess, I knew it would be one of the best books I’d read all year. I wholeheartedly loved every bit of this wonderful book, and I encourage all historical romance lovers and second chance romance lovers to read this book!

Home required more than river and rolling hills. Home required her. And so he would do this summer what he had done every moment he’d been away from London for the past two years and seven months, exactly. He would search for her.

For the past three years, Malcolm Bevingstoke, Duke of Haven, has been searching endlessly for his runaway wife. We experience the pain and agony he’s been going through the past few years missing his wife – the woman he loves and hates. Sarah MacLean writes his anguish so well – I could FEEL exactly how he was feeling, and it was literally hurting my heart. I love some good angst, and the author gives it to us in huge doses. Then, finally, Malcolm’s wife reappears back in London, demanding a divorce… and all he can think about is having her back in his life forever.

The only woman he’d ever loved. The only woman he’d ever hated.
The same, and somehow entirely different.

Here, Sarah MacLean intertwines Sera and Malcolm’s love stories that take place both in the past and the present. We get the background of how they met and fell in love… before everything fell apart, before Malcolm hated Sera, before Sera ran away. Their past is heartbreaking and full of pain – I nearly had tears in my eyes because I felt like I was experiencing every bit of their pain alongside them.

Love is not enough.
There had been a time when it would have been. When he had been all she’d ever wished for. All she’d ever needed. But he’d been too blind to see that everything she’d done had been for him. For their family. For their future. And by the time he’d understood, she’d already been fixed to the firmament.

And then, I ACTUALLY cried as Malcolm was trying to win back his wife and love of his life. His desperation to earn Sera’s forgiveness and love again had my heart hurting, but I loved every second of the hurt. His path toward redemption is a bit wonky – having Sera find a replacement wife for him, all the while trying to get her to love him again – but he is definitely not letting her go again, because he never stopped loving her. I love a good grovel, and Sarah MacLean gave me everything I never knew I wanted in a groveling hero. I honestly didn’t think Malcolm would be redeemable after what happened in The Rogue Not Taken, but all I can say after having read this is that Malcolm is 100% redeemed in my eyes and I absolutely loved him and Sera together.

“I shall have you. I shall love you. And I shall grow old in your arms.”

This is probably my all-time favorite redeeming love story. I’m such a sucker for second chance romances but they’re never done quite the way I want them to. Luckily, Sarah MacLean surpassed all my expectations in a second chance romance with this beautiful, powerful love story. Everyone needs to experience the wonder that is this book!
