He’ll be the dream and the dirty fantasy…

Through with both her controlling ex and relationships, Ava Webber is determined to explore the spicy and sometimes forbidden appetites of the exclusive BDSM nightclub, Serve. Here, she’ll get exactly what she needs…as long as it’s from a man she doesn’t know.

Nolan Hart ensures that Serve’s clients get what they want, how they want it. But with one look at the curvy brunette, Nolan knows he’s the man to fulfill her desires. As the anonymous lover, he’s Ava’s dirtiest fantasy. Outside of Serve, he’s her charming, smartass friend.

But Nolan wants more. More than Ava is willing to give. And as long as the blindfold stays on, she’ll never discover that the two men she’s falling for are one and the same…

I’ve read and loved two of the three Tessa Bailey books in the Serve series, so I was excited to read more from the series! This is my first Joya Ryan, and I have to say, I quite enjoyed it. Rules of Seduction centers around Nolan, the man who works at Serve, an exclusive BDSM club, who’s in charge of fulfilling clients’ needs. I’m not the biggest fan of BDSM books, but every once in a while I’ll give it a try. These types of books are usually a hit or miss, and while I didn’t LOVE Rules of Seduction, it was a hot, quick read that was easy to enjoy.

Ava Webber came out of her previous, long-term relationship a shell of herself. She lost herself somewhere along that relationship, but now with a successful career, she’s been able to move on. But while she’s moved on, that doesn’t mean she wants to enter into a relationship again any time soon. This is where Serve comes in, a sex club catering to any and all its clients’ needs. When Ava goes to Serve, she wants to forget her life for just a little while – she wants an anonymous man who will consume her with no strings attached. But meeting Nolan Hart has her questioning whether she truly wants a relationship with someone or not.

Nolan has never met anyone quite like Ava – she fascinates him, and the more he gets to know her, the more he wants her. So when Ava details the kind of man she wants, Nolan’s ready to be that man – especially since he’ll be completely anonymous. Nolan doesn’t do relationships either, but being with Ava, both in and out of the club, makes him fall hard and deep for the first time.

“I want to belong to you. If you’ll have me? I want to give myself to you. And I want you to give yourself to me. Because together, we’re more than we could ever be apart.”

Rules of Seduction is so sexy – the anonymous hookups between Ava and Nolan are seriously on fire. I really enjoyed the angst of the story as well, with Nolan deciding whether or not to reveal himself to Ava as her mysterious man. This is a fun, quick read that fans of the series would enjoy. It’s very light on the BDSM. I didn’t connect well with Ava or Nolan, but I was able to overall enjoy their story.

Amara Maria Robles is a good girl. So good that she gave up her dreams of becoming a renowned pastry chef to help her parents with their struggling Mexican bakery. Yet her parents reject any changes she suggests, and refuse to sell her mouth-watering confections. Clearly being a good girl isn’t paying off. So when her brother’s sexy ex-best friend walks into the bakery, Amara’s tempted to be very bad indeed…

After a scandal twelve years ago, resident bad boy Eric Valencia has returned to make things right with his family and friends. One glance at Amara and her wicked curves, however, and Eric finds himself thinking about how she’d feel beneath him—something he promised Amara’s brother he would never think about, let alone do.

But this bad boy is in deep trouble…because Amara’s determined to have her cake, and Eric, too.

Delicious Temptation was a less-than-stellar read for me. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t very good either. I grew easily bored at times, and even got a little frustrated with the characters, but thankfully I never actually hated any of it. This book was just too predictable, although I did love the cupcakes/bakery aspect of the story. The heroine being a pastry chef brought a unique twist to the story, but the characters themselves were not as enjoyable for me.

Eric Valencia has come back to his home to fix the wrongs he made twelve years ago. A recovering alcoholic and former bad boy, Eric had great potential to be the kind of hero who overcomes his past and fights for his future. While I liked his character slightly more than the heroine’s, I still struggled to connect with his character. I normally love the older brother’s best friend trope (in this case, he’s the older brother’s ex-best friend) but I just didn’t get excited over Eric and Amara falling for each other.

Amara was a character who I honestly just didn’t like by the end of the novel. She’s a pastry chef who leaves her job to go back home to help out with her parents’ struggling bakery, and she has no backbone whatsoever. She does what she’s told to by her parents, and when she tries to state her opinion, she gets shot down and doesn’t stand up for herself. She’s a grown adult and yet she’s still allowing her parents to control her. Of course, she breaks out of that once she sees Eric again and they spend more time with each other. But by the time she finally does take a stand against her parents, I was already bored of her character.

The only redeeming things about this book were the writing and the actual bakery. I really enjoyed the writing, so it was disappointing that I had a hard time liking the characters. I was fascinated by all the Mexican baked goods Amara made, and I was impressed by how well the author described them.

If you’re a fan of the older brother’s best friend trope, you might have a better time with this book than I did. I’m definitely still open to reading other books from Sabrina Sol, since I like her writing, but I just struggled too much with the main characters.

review

This was the CUTEST book ever! I usually don’t read adult contemporary romances (I’m more a fan of new adult and young adult contemps), but this book made me remember how much fun adult contemps are too. I really should read more… But anyways, I loved this book! I couldn’t stop reading. It made me laugh and my heart go crazy for the main characters, because there’s some heartbreak in this book too. And I love when books can make my heart ache a little.

I was hooked on the story from the very beginning, because it is hilarious! Angelle, the main character, is shy and awkward, and even more so around Cane, which makes for best interactions between them. Whenever they’re together, you want to smile and giggle and laugh. They have a strong physical connection towards one another, but neither have acted on it–yet. And it just so happens that Angelle is in need of a fake fiancé and Cane is up for bids at an auction…

So what does Angelle do? She bids for him. And wins. And then asks him to be her pretend fiancé.

See, already, the book is off to a great start. I was laughing out loud so many times, but I was just waiting for the fallout. Pretending to be someone’s fiancé is never a good thing (at least in books it’s not), so when it’s time for Cane to meet Angelle’s parents, something bad just had to happen.

I really liked Angelle. She’s not exactly the tough, badass heroine I usually read. She’s soft and shy and has a heart of gold, and luckily, that really appeals to Cane. Her Cajun culture is a huge part of her life, and I really enjoyed reading about it. Rachel Harris writes it so well, integrates the culture so well, that for someone who knows next to nothing about the Cajun culture, I could easily read the book and not get overwhelmed.

Cane is pretty known to be a player. He doesn’t commit, but women flock to him all the time. But he has a huge heart he saves for his family and best friend. He’s the overprotective type of man. He’s had to keep a dirty secret about his family to make sure his sisters don’t get hurt, but doing so has been messing with his head and heart for a while, and it makes him wary of starting any relationship with any woman. Even Angelle, even though he can’t get her out of his mind 😉

I enjoyed this book so much! I loved reading about the Cajun culture, and I was so invested in Angelle and Cane’s story. I ended up being so happy with the book, since it exceeded my expectations. It was probably because the book made me laugh so much, and went a little angsty and heartbreaking near the end. It’s not all happiness and fluff, which is perfect for me!

about the author

Rachel Harris

Rachel Harris grew up in New Orleans, where she watched soap operas with her grandmother and stayed up late sneak reading her mama’s favorite romance novels. Now a Cajun cowgirl living in Houston, she still stays up way too late reading her favorite romances, only now, she can do so openly. She firmly believes life’s problems can be solved with a hot, powdered-sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations.

When not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, she homeschools her two beautiful girls and watch reality television with her amazing husband.

She writes YA, NA, and Adult Fun & Flirty Escapes. Taste The Heat is her adult romance debut, and she’s also the author of MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY and A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES, as well as a ton of other books to come. She loves hearing from readers and dishing books!
