Sasha.

He’s dark and mysterious. Quiet and lethal.
An Irish mobster.
Pure sin wrapped up in a beautiful package.
But there’s also something off about him.
He doesn’t feel anything. He shows no emotions.
Sometimes I question his humanity.
He hasn’t spoken to me in two years. Not a single word.
But we share a secret, he and I.
And if it ever comes out, I have no doubt in my mind…
He won’t have a problem killing me too.

Ronan.

I’ve slain for her. I’ll do it again.
When it comes to Sasha, there isn’t a line I won’t cross.
I watch her. She doesn’t know it.
She thinks I hate her. Sometimes, I think I might too.
But I’m always there, lurking in the shadows.
Craving her. Trying to keep the beast within at bay.
I’ll keep her safe. I’ll slaughter anyone who tries to hurt her.
The only thing I can’t do… is protect her from myself.

RONAN!! I’d been super excited for Ronan’s story ever since reading the first Boston Underworld book, Crow (my review here), and the author absolutely didn’t disappoint! Ronan and Sasha’s romance was as intense, tumultuous, and emotional as I’d hoped and expected – these two tortured souls captivated my heart, and I couldn’t put their book down! If you love mafia romances, this series is a must read. You’ll fall in love with the alpha men, strong heroines, and fantastic action and suspense in these novels.

I don’t know anything other than that it’s always been her, from the moment I saw her three years ago. She’s the thing that I’ve yearned for more than anything else. And for that reason, she’s the one thing I can never have. I cannot control my urges. My instincts.

To say Sasha and Ronan have lived tough lives would be an understatement. Sasha’s demons lie in the form of abusive exes and the cancer her mother is dying from. Ronan is still haunted by the nightmares of his childhood. These are two characters who couldn’t have more broken souls, and yet they find the strength to lean on and fall for each other. Ever since they met three years ago, Ronan has always been there for Sasha, with or without her knowledge. She’s the only woman for him, and I swoon so hard at the intensity and devotion he has for her. Sasha herself can’t seem to ever forget Ronan or stay away from him. But how can a relationship work between them when all Sasha wants is to leave the mafia world, of which Ronan is the appointed Reaper?

I really enjoyed Sasha’s character. She’s quiet, keeps to herself, keeps her head down in mafia business, all so she can one day escape that life and create a better one for herself. I admired the inner strength and determination she had in her. She never really appeared weak in my eyes, which I’m thankful for. She’s got so many things going against her, but she’s not broken, no matter what she believes.

Ronan’s past especially hurt my heart to read. There are so many fascinating layers to this man, from the tortured childhood he lived through, his job as the trained killer for the Irish mob, to now a man obsessed with one woman. I love that we get his POV, even though it hurt to experience. I hated what he went through as a young boy, and how it still affects him as a man, pulling himself away from Sasha again and again. But the love he has for her is unlike anything else, and I still fell pretty hard for this complex man.

My dark prince. The reaper. The man who spilled blood for me without pause. For that reason alone he’ll always be on a pedestal that no other can reach. He’ll always be the memory I revisit in my darkest of times.

I loved Reaper!! It’s dark, gritty, and entertaining from start to finish. It’s fast-paced and full of action. I do recommend you read the first Boston Underworld book beforehand, because you might be a little lost with all the characters in the story and what their roles are in the mafia world. And if you have read Crow, be sure to pick up Reaper! The series only gets better, and I can’t wait to read more from A. Zavarelli!

Some universal truths refuse to be ignored.

Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Spaghetti and meatballs are best friends forever. And guys like Tyler Knight don’t go for girls like Cam Emerson.

She knew from the second she met him that he didn’t belong on her bookshelf, the six-foot-six ex-tight end with a face so all-American, it could have sold apple pie. So she shelved him next to the supermodels and rock stars and took her place on her own shelf — the one with the flannel-clad, pasty-faced comic book nerds. Most of her boyfriends have existed between the pages of books, but rather than worrying over her own lacking love life, she puts all her energy into playing Cupid, using her job at the book bar, Wasted Words, as her stomping ground.

Tyler Knight always looks on the bright side. His career-ending injury turned into a job as a sports agent. A horrible breakup led him to Cam, his quirky, smart roommate who is far more beautiful than she realizes. She’s made it perfectly clear she’s not interested in him — not like that at least — but if she ever changes her mind, he won’t hesitate. Because he doesn’t see the lines she’s drawn between them, as much as she insists that they’re there. Deep down he knows that despite their differences, they’re a match well made.

*A romantic comedy inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma*

Staci Hart writes the cutest new adult contemporary romances!! Wasted Words is another lovely friends-to-lovers romance of hers, with an added opposites-attract theme. It was really an adorable read – Tyler is the sweetest hero ever, Cam is flawed but relatable, and the story simple but well-written. If you’re a fan of the author’s Bad Habits series, or you like light-hearted contemporary romances, I highly recommend this one!

“So you have daydreamed about it,” Bayleigh said as she crossed her arms.
“You’ve seen him. How could you not? But it’s like fantasizing about a book boyfriend. One-hundred-percent of the time, it’s fictional, which makes it harmless.”

Cam Emerson and Tyler Knight are strictly roommates and friends. Sure, Tyler’s the hottest guy Cam’s ever met, and Cam is the sweetest girl Tyler’s ever met, but they’d never make a move on each other. Cam thinks Tyler is way out her league – he’s a six-foot-six ex-football player to her nerd-loving short self – and since she’s been burned by someone out of her league before, she’s never going to go for someone like that again. But when Tyler realizes that the girl who’s always been right in front of him just might be the one, how is he going to convince Cam that they’re perfect together?

She wasn’t like the other girls I’d dated. She was real and good and true, and she wanted me. I felt more safe with her than any woman I’d ever been with.

First off, I have to say that I adore the place Cam works at. Wasted Words is a coffee shop/bar/bookstore, which literally sounds like heaven to me. I love the way Staci Hart incorporated the place into this story. Cam’s coworkers made wonderful secondary characters, and I’m hoping some might end up getting their own books! I also liked that this book was inspired by Emma by Jane Austen, a story I adore. If you loved Emma, you definitely need to check Wasted Words out, because the whole matching-making thing is spot on here. I did get really annoyed with Cam sometimes with how adamant and stubborn she is when it comes to match-making and thinking she knows best, but thankfully she does learn from her mistakes.

Tyler!!!! Ahh, Tyler is definitely the star of this book for me. He is such a GOOD GUY. He’s sweet, funny, kind, and so, so patient with Cam – I don’t know how he was able to wait for her to get her head on straight! He’s an adorable hero, and I loved getting his POV and seeing how much he feels for Cam. They make the cutest couple ever!

“I’ve never been with anyone like you, either.” He smiled, thumb shifting against my skin. “And I feel more at home than I have in a long time.”

Wasted Words is just lovely. It’s not too serious, not too light-hearted. Staci Hart definitely balanced out the emotions really well in this novel. If you’re a fan of the friends-to-lovers or opposites-attract tropes, this book needs to be on your TBR!

ARC Review: Wicked Heart by Leisa Rayven

The one guy she can’t have is the one she can’t forget.

Liam Quinn is one of the biggest movie stars in the world…and the only man Elissa Holt has ever truly loved.

After being out of her life for six years, he and his gorgeous fiancé are set to star in the new Broadway show Elissa is stage managing. The only trouble is, when late night rehearsals bring Elissa and Liam together, the line between what is and what could have been gets blurred. Now one moment of weakness is about to create a scandal that will echo around the world.

Elissa knows that falling for Liam again would be a tragedy in the making, but as any good romantic knows, love doesn’t always follow the script.

I am so surprised at how much I adored Wicked Heart!! I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Cassie and Ethan’s story in the first two Starcrossed books, but I was praying that Elissa and Liam’s story would be better, and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. It. Was. Fantastic!! THIS was the kind of story I was looking for when I first started the Starcrossed series – I loved the characters, the theatre aspect, the angst, the writing… This second chance romance swept my heart away! Its powerful love story made me FEEL so much, both good and bad emotions. Wicked Heart is a must read for new adult contemporary romance lovers!

Heartache doesn’t teach you to be resilient. It teaches you to protect your fragility. It teaches you to fear love. And it draws a bright red circle around all the ways you’ve failed as a person and laughs while you cry.

Liam Quinn was Elissa Holt’s first and only love… but he broke her heart six years ago when he moved on to someone else. Now, Elissa’s about to stage manage one of the biggest Broadway shows of her career – but the leading roles star none other than Liam, now a famous Hollywood star… and his gorgeous fiancée, Angel. Elissa will have to set aside her feelings in order to work with the two of them closely, but how can she ignore the hot, sensual looks Liam gives her, or the chemistry they have that never faded away after all those years?

“I’ve never stopped loving you. From the day we met, you’ve been the only one for me. There’s never been anyone else.”

It took me a while to get into Wicked Heart, but after the flashbacks to the beginnings of Elissa and Liam’s romance, I finally got into my groove and couldn’t put the book down. I was dying to see how the show would go on, how Elissa and Liam would even get back together. The connection between them is incredibly well-written, so freaking hot and palpable – in every scene where they’re together, you can tell they’re meant to be, that they want to be together… but they can’t. So the subsequent drama and angst had me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages so fast to see what would happen next. I seriously loved the way the author had me hooked onto this story!

The one thing that has been consistently well done throughout the series is Leisa Rayven’s fantastic writing. Even though I had problems with the first two books, I couldn’t deny that her writing blew me away, and it’s just as incredible in Wicked Heart. I honestly can’t wait to see what Leisa has in store for us next, just so I can experience her writing again. It’s that good!

The secondary characters were just as developed and intriguing as the main ones. I have to say, I actually really liked Angel. She could’ve been the typical, one-dimensional, bitchy other woman, but she wasn’t, and I’m so thankful for that. She and Elissa become good friends, much to Elissa’s surprise – Angel is genuinely a good person, which makes it even harder to see the engagement. And Elissa’s best friend Josh gives a much needed comedic relief to the story. He’s so sweet and adorable – I loved him! Though I did have a problem with the little revelation at the end of the novel about his feelings for a certain someone – I thought that was a bit too clichéd.

Overall, Wicked Heart is a fantastic improvement to the Starcrossed series, and if Leisa Rayven’s upcoming novels are anything like this one, I’m going to have to read them. Wicked Heart is addicting, angsty, and emotional – a little predictable towards the end, but that’s forgivable. I swooned over the romance, and I kind of wish the book was a little longer so I could experience it a little more. If you love second chance romances, I highly recommend you read this book!

Damon Atwood was Hollywood’s golden boy. Having won an Oscar at the tender age of thirteen, he had the life many could only dream about. But his success came at a price, and after a short but fruitful film career, he chose to live a life of obscurity on a remote Scottish island. Almost a decade later he’s finally ready to make his return, starting with a lead role in a musical on London’s West End.

As a choreographer’s assistant, Rose Taylor has always faded into the background. She watches shows come to life from the side lines, but has never craved the attention of stardom. When rumours begin circulating of Damon’s involvement in her latest gig, she doesn’t predict how she will be thrust into the limelight, nor how the mysterious and strangely introverted man will need her to teach him how to be a star again.

Rose knows that show crushes don’t last. Actors fall for each other during the intensity of a production, often losing themselves in their roles. These kinds of affairs burn bright and then they fade. The question is, should Rose let herself shine with Damon, or guard her heart from being broken after the final curtain call?

I freaking adore L.H. Cosway’s books!! She’s got such a unique, quirky style of writing that I’ve missed. Honestly, all of her stories are unique and all her characters are special. Showmance is definitely another winner from her – it’s a fantastic theater romance that was so sweet and easy to read. Damon and Rose totally melted my heart as I read their story. If you love romances that feature celebrities or the theater, I highly recommend Showmance!

Rose Taylor is a dancer and a choreographer assistant – but even though she dances incredibly well, she shies away from the spotlight because of her stage fright. So she’s content to stay backstage for the latest musical she’s in, Moulin Rouge, and she’s also made a promise to herself to stay away from actors after being badly burned by one in the last show she was in. But her promise goes awry when the famous former child star, Damon Atwood, returns to acting as one of the main characters in Moulin Rouge. He’s all grown up now – he’s sexy, quiet, irresistible, and to top it off, he has a gorgeous singing voice. How is a girl to stay away from him, especially when it seems he’s grown an interest in her?

“Enlightenment is often found in the most unexpected places,” she replied, lifting the cup to her mouth again with a teasing smile.
My eyes traced the curve of her lips and the feminine line of her jaw, and I thought, If I could find myself anywhere, it would be inside you, Rose Taylor.

Damon Atwood has been living the quiet, solitary life after he left Hollywood, so now that he’s thrust back into the limelight, he’s a little awkward and stilted about being back in urban life. The only time he feels calm and like himself is when he’s with Rose, a beautiful, sweet, adorable dancer he can’t stop thinking about. He and Rose form a friendship of sorts, even though it’s layered with attraction. But when other people start hounding in on them – Damon’s co-star wants him, Rose’s ex wants her back – will the two of them finally go after what they want?

This is probably the sexiest book I’ve read from L.H. Cosway so far. The chemistry between Rose and Damon is FABULOUS. I could seriously feel it every time they were together. L.H. Cosway did a wonderful job with the build-up of anticipation between these two characters – I was dying for Damon and Rose to get together! And when they finally did… swoon. Damon is one sweet talker (though he can be dirty too) ;).

One of my favorite things about Showmance is the fact that it’s in dual POV. I LOVED that we get inside both Rose and Damon’s heads! We can see how the attraction is on both sides and how they wanted each other so much. Their romance is seriously just all the swoons – I couldn’t get enough of them! Showmance is another fantastic read from one of my favorite authors – it’s got a wonderful cast of characters, a heart-warming romance, and the theater aspect is on point! I simply adored this book.

Home wasn’t a geographical location on the map anymore, it wasn’t a place set by four walls and a roof. Home now was a much more intangible, yet solid thing.
She was my home.
My beautiful, sweet, and forever enchanting Rose.

Now here’s an excerpt from Showmance! ❤

After a moment I leaned in, my shoulder brushing hers as I spoke low, “And what book would you have me narrate?”

She paused to consider her answer, tapping her lower lip with her middle finger. “Hmm, if only Elizabeth Gaskell had written North and South from the male point of view. You’d make a fantastic Mr Thornton.”

I effected a brooding frown. “That’s how you see me? All moody and tortured?”

She eyed me, seeming surprised that I knew who Mr Thornton was. “Maybe add shy to that list. You’ve barely spoken a word to me all week.”

I rubbed at my jaw and looked across the studio to where Iggy stood with Jacob, both men talking, their eyes on us. “Yeah, sorry about that.”

Seeming to notice my self-consciousness, she nudged me with her elbow. “Did you know you sound like Sean Bean? I could listen to him recite the phone book,” she said on a sigh. Did that mean she could listen to me recite the phone book, too? For a second her blue eyes widened, like she just realised what she’d said. I didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable, so I changed the subject.

“Do you remember earlier when I was singing my part of the song for the first time?”

Rose nodded and took another gulp of water. My attention wandered to the delicate curve of her throat as she swallowed and then back up to her bright eyes. My brow furrowed. It was becoming disconcerting how closely I watched her sometimes.

“Everybody got weird for a second, just…staring at me. What was that about?”

She turned her body to look me dead in the eye. “You have no idea, have you?

“No idea of what?”

“Of how good you are. When you sing, I swear, even the straight guys in the cast get stiffys.”

I sputtered a laugh, surprised by her unexpected bluntness. “You’re lying.”

“And you’re oblivious, Damon. You’re a fantastic actor and an amazing singer. It’s hard for people not to go all googly-eyed when you perform. I guess that’s why you’re a star.” She shrugged like it was simple.

“I haven’t been a star for a very long time, and even then it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be,” I said. What I really wanted to say was, do you get a stiffy when I sing? Or, uh, the female equivalent.

Do you get wet when I sing, Rose?

The question filled my head with images. In my mind she was spread wide and naked on my bed, begging, pleading… My gaze wandered from her curious expression to her exposed shoulder. Her oversized T-shirt was hanging off again, revealing a tight tank top beneath. The rise and fall of her breathing led my attention to her breasts, which were round and full, but frustratingly hidden beneath the bagginess of the top.

Audiobook Review: Pucked Up by Helena Hunting

Pucked Up by Helena Hunting

Miller “Buck” Butterson has been banging his way through life ever since a puck to the face fixed his messed up front teeth. After five years in the NHL, deflecting goals on the ice and scoring them with puck bunnies, Miller has decided he’s ready for a girlfriend. A real, non-bunny girlfriend to take on dates, and not jump into bed with after five seconds of conversation.

Miller thinks he’s found that woman in his teammate’s sister. Except, unlike team captain and all-around nice guy Alex Waters—who happens to date his stepsister, Miller’s media reputation as a manwhore is well earned. Beyond that minor detail, Miller doesn’t know the first thing about relationships or the time and effort they require.

Miller learns—eventually—that if he wants to make Sunshine “Sunny” Waters fall for him, he’s going to have to do a whole lot more than show her his stick skills in the bedroom.

I absolutely LOOOVED this audiobook!!! I’m actually surprised by how much I adored Pucked Up – I tried reading the first in the series, Pucked, but could never really get into it. I thought that Helena Hunting’s sense of humor just wasn’t my thing, but boy was I wrong. I honestly couldn’t stop grinning or giggling while I was listening to the Pucked Up audiobook. I loved it!! Miller was a wonderful hero, Joe Arden narrated him perfectly – I seriously had a blast listening to this book.

Miller “Buck” Butterson is used to puck bunnies chasing after him left and right, and while he used to partake in them, he’s a one-woman man now… if only the woman in question believed it. Miller has been crushing on his teammate’s sister Sunny Waters for a while, and he’s ready to do whatever it takes to make her believe that he wants her and only her. But the funny thing about life is that it never really goes your way, and every time Miller does something innocent, it’s blown way out of proportion on social media, which is what makes Sunny have doubts about him. The situations Miller gets himself into are actually pretty hilarious and over the top *cough* a spider bite on his balls *cough* but at the heart of it, he just hates that Sunny won’t trust him and believe him when he says that nothing happened. So what will it take for her to realize that she’s the only one for him?

Miller is seriously the sweetest, most adorable man ever. He’s a lot more sensible than his crazy sister (the heroine of book 1), thank god, but he’s still witty and humorous. I loved him so much! He’s so much more than the airhead jock that social media likes to portray him as – he’s serious about hockey and he’s super into charity and helping others. He’s humble about the philanthropic work he does, so much so that no one even knows this sensitive, caring side of him. My heart fell hard for this man, and even more so because of his love for Sunny. My heart ached every time she doubted his intentions and hurt him, but he really never gives up on winning her heart. He’s seriously perfect!

I’ve listened to Joe Arden before, but Pucked Up is definitely the best work of his that I’ve listened to. He embodies Miller wonderfully, and all the humor and sarcastic remarks came across really well. Pucked Up is only told in Miller’s POV, so there’s only the one male narrator, which I’m usually not a big fan of, but it totally worked here. If you love audiobooks that will make you laugh and smile, I can’t recommend Pucked Up enough! This is definitely an audiobook you need to use your credit on.
